Jonathan Ross is reportedly being lined up to be the host of the Brit Awards.

The presenter, who recently signed a deal to take his chat show to ITV, is also hoping to produce the ceremony, according to the News of the World.

A source said: "Jonathan has wanted to host the Brits for years but all his commitments at the Beeb have never allowed him to.

"As soon as he left he made it his priority to get the Brits. He's really excited it's going to happen. But he wants to do it properly, which is why he's in talks to produce the whole thing as well."

Ross, who officially left the BBC at the weekend, has already presented the BAFTAs and British Comedy Awards.

Jonathan Ross has revealed that he has been asked to host the Brit Awards 2011, but is uncertain about whether to accept the invitation.

Ross, who left the BBC to join ITV this summer, was linked to the role in July. Today, he confirmed that he had been approached but has not yet accepted.

He told TalkSport: "I might be doing the Brits. They've asked me to do that.

"Not sure if it works because of the dates and also it's a bit of a poison chalice."

Referring to previous hosts that have been criticised for their performance, Ross said: "I suppose, in a way, the benefit of that is that if you do it and you don't do that well, you can just say, 'Well no-one does'."
