Is Denise dead so?

Perdita

I would have thought there would have been spoilers about her departure before now, maybe it is one of those undercover stories to trap Lucas, letting him believe that Denise is dead when in reality she is not.

Is Denise maybe in a coma?

I don't think so if they say "where her body was found"... not she is in hospital

Patrick is throwing flowers into the canal where Denise's body was found and takes his hat off in respect

WTF???!!!!

By the sound of that, Denise is definitely dead (unless Perdita's undercover theory is true)!

That is so unexpected, even though I knew she would find out the truth about Lucas soon, and thought it was unlikely she'd go along with him.

What's going on with Ben that Phil and Shirley are so upset about?

Could be. We haven't been told about Denise or Lucas leaving. Strange.

But they might have been able to revive the woman they drag out, it either is not Denise or she might survive and back to my earlier theory of the cops trying to trap Lucas.

I hope she is not dead.. maybe she recovered and told Police about Lucas and they are setting a trap.. if she is dead, then Lucas gets away with it all again...

Or some one sees Lucas and Denise .. and calls it in as suspicous activity ??????? who knows

Perdita

I think that happens because they police are there very quickly and manage to get Denise out of the water

Jockie

I'm thinking Lucas makes it to look as if they were attacked, and Denise is killed. In tonight's episode there is a mention of a prostitute who looks like Denise- she'll will really be the one he kills. He takes Denise hostage to keep her quiet because she knows his secret, then when the prostitute's body is pulled from the water, Lucas identifies it as Denise and everyone thinks she is dead. How we go from Denise in the car, to dead prostitute in the canal is beyond me though. But that's my theory.

That's a pretty good theory. I was wondering if it was the Denise lookalike who is killed really, too. You couldn't see Denise's face in the pictures of the body being dragged from the canal.

Like most others on here, I can't really believe that Denise will be killed off.

Ben's court case rolls around in EastEnders in a few weeks' time and the Mitchells are convinced that he'll be handed a custodial sentence.

Having clobbered his friend Jordan around the head with a spanner earlier in the year, Ben faces the prospect of a spell in juvenile detention.

Complete with new haircut, Ben's determined to face the consequences in court, despite Phil offering him one last chance to flee the country.

Standing in the dock, though, Ben wishes he'd agreed to his father's suggestion.

Will Ben be detained for his savage attack on Jordan? Or will the judge give him another chance?

In court Ben turns to Phil, looking terrified. He has changed his mind and asks to run away, but it is too late.

These scenes air on Thursday, July 15 at 7.30pm on BBC One.

It's a bit harsh sending him to prison just because they don't think he's a good enough actor...

Lucas identifies Denise's body
Airs on Monday, July 12 2010 20:00 BST on BBC One

As Libby orders Patrick and Chelsea to work, a police car draws up outside the Masoods'. They immediately think that there's been news of Denise but they're there to question Zainab about Owen and Denise's relationship. While Lucas and Chelsea express their worry for Denise, Libby vents her frustration over her mother's disappearance in the Minute Mart. Later, a police car turns up at the house and Lucas rushes over to them.

Inside the house, DI Kelly reveals that Denise's phone has been found in the canal, along with a body - and that they need somebody to formally identify it. Lucas agrees to go with them. Chelsea decides to go too but at the last minute, Chelsea backs out of walking into the room. Alone, Lucas heads into the viewing room and confirms that the corpse is that of Denise. Outside, Chelsea's inconsolable.

Meanwhile, Phil wants to leave with Ben but Shirley manages to persuade him to head over to The Vic for Peggy's announcement. There, Peggy reveals that Ronnie and Jack are engaged. Back at home, Ben pleads with Phil to let him serve his time in juvenile detention but Phil's steadfast. With Shirley supposedly in the dark about his plan, Phil lies that he's taking Ben and Louise to the cinema. Knowing that he's not telling the truth, Shirley heads outside, finds a note and heads to The Vic. As Phil, Ben and Louise get into the car, they're about to drive away - but Peggy's standing in their way.

Elsewhere, Darren's still living at the Car Lot; the Beales and Masoods argue over who'll buy Christian's shares in Masala Queen; Max agrees to let Darren stay at his house for a while; Ian makes a successful offer; Carol demands that Darren pay a month's rent upfront but he can't bring himself to use baby George's maintenance money; Syed admits to Christian that he lied about the Masoods having a loan as he knew Ian would pay through the nose for the shares in the business; and Carol agrees to let Darren stay anyway as he put his son first.

DI Kelly questions Lucas about Owen's murder
Airs on Tuesday, July 13 2010 19:30 BST on BBC One

Patrick throws flowers into the canal where Denise's body was found, while Lucas breaks the news about his wife to the Masoods. Asking Zainab to spread the word, Lucas informs the family of the police's belief that Denise killed Owen, before killing herself. Libby struggles to deal with events and heads to The Vic with Patrick. DI Kelly drives onto the Square and asks to speak with Lucas. Inside, Kelly reveals their suspicion that Denise had help in murdering Owen. A concerned Lucas begins to contemplate his next move as the police leave. Over at The Vic, Lucas faces a barrage of questions from his family about what DI Kelly wanted with him.

Backed into a corner, Lucas claims that they merely informed him that Denise's body is due to be released soon. Later, Lucas prays with Jordan and they're soon joined by Libby and Chelsea. Wanting to reassure his family, Lucas suggests that they move on with their lives but the girls aren't impressed by his suggestion. Having been questioned by the police, Patrick turns to Lucas for a chat. Lucas insists they're both under suspicion for helping Denise murder Owen. With that, Lucas goes on to lie that Denise killed Owen on her wedding day and turned to him for help in covering her crime.

Stunned by Lucas's revelation, Patrick agrees to keep quiet.

Meanwhile, Ben enjoys playing a violent video game with Phil. However, when playing the game alone, he becomes frustrated when he loses. Shirley senses his anxiety and suggests that she could teach him a thing or two about 'prison life'. As Shirley teaches Ben some lingo, Phil wanders in with a pair of boxing gloves and arranges a fight for him with Jay. Ben loses the bout and when Ian sees him battered and bruised, he asks him to head back home with him. Ben, however, is adamant that he wants to stay with his father.

Elsewhere, Syed reveals to Christian that he's been seeing a therapist who's cured him of his 'gay feelings'; both Ian and Zainab think that they're the only ones who know about Denise; Christian's furious by Syed's claims and moans to Roxy about him; and Syed breaks down to Tamwar, admitting that despite his therapy, he can't help but love Christian.

Ben appears in court
Airs on Thursday, July 15 2010 19:30 BST on BBC One

Phil teaches Ben how to shave and the youngster admits that he wants to look tougher in case he's sent to juvenile detention. Across the Square, Peggy's delighted by the ballet tickets she's bought her grandson as a going away present. Later, Ben makes his entrance to his leaving party with a shaved head and everyone bursts into laughter. With the day off school because of what happened to Denise, Jordan asks Chelsea if he can attend Ben's leaving party and apologise. The pub falls silent when they walk in and Jay cuts the tension, before Jordan and Ben make amends.

With Phil, Shirley and Peggy by his side, Ben travels to court. After an argument with Phil over dance classes in juvenile detention, Phil gives Ben one final chance to run away to Spain but Ben declines - he wants to stand up and be counted. In court, however, Ben's panic is evident and it's clear that he's changed his mind about running away. It's too late, though - Ben's sentenced to 12 months' imprisonment. His punishment, however, is reduced to eight months due to his 'guilty' plea - and five of them will be served in juvenile detention. As Ben's taken away, Phil's an emotional wreck.

Meanwhile, Syed's still struggling with life and blames his parents for all his problems. Leaving Syed at home to babysit Kamil, the Masoods head out to cater for a function. Later, Zainab's furious to discover Christian handing out free food at the function and confronts him. Masood steps in and demands that Christian stop insulting his wife but Christian's blunt - they're killing Syed from the inside, especially as he loves Syed more than he can describe. Masood reaches tipping point and punches Christian, before storming out with Zainab in tow. Learning of Masood's act of violence against Christian, Syed brands his father a hypocrite. Rushing out of the house, Syed heads to Christian's flat to apologise but Christian's evasive.

Syed attempts to kiss Christian but he once again recoils - until he can stand up to his mother and father, he won't believe his intentions.

Elsewhere, Billy tells Jay about his new job at the local supermarket; Ina celebrates her birthday; Stacey decides not to attend the party in order to look after Lily; Ian researches Youth Offenders' Institutes; and Jean returns to find Stacey throwing Becca out of her room.

Christian and Syed reunite
Airs on Friday, July 16 2010 20:00 BST on BBC One

Zainab excitedly tries to plan a party in the hope of finding Syed a nice girl but he's not too sure that he's ready to start dating again. Jane, meanwhile, is still furious at Masood for punching Christian the day before and brands the whole family bigots. Spotting Christian, Syed rushes over and admits that he's finally ready - he's tired of pretending. Christian, however, walks away. Zainab's made up that Syed's agreed to the party, while Masood hands back the Qu'ran that he previously felt he didn't deserve. With the party in 'full swing', Syed's visibly depressed. Resigned to pleasing his parents for the rest of his life, Syed hands the Qu'ran over to Tamwar, before leaving.

Later, Syed makes a surprise declaration to Christian: he knows that he's a gay Muslim and nothing can change that - he can't choose between his faith and his sexuality. Zainab and Masood are clearly disappointed by their son's choice and close the door in their face. Realising the sacrifice Syed's making, Christian agrees to take him home.

Meanwhile, Shirley and Phil struggle to come to terms with the outcome of Ben's trial. Heather attempts to lift Shirley's spirits, while Peggy tries to track down Phil. At The Arches, Ian and Phil snipe at each other over Ben's situation and as the argument escalates, Phil raises a spanner to Ian as if to hit him. Peggy soon arrives and attempts to cool the waters but Ian has the final word - they're to blame for Ben's whereabouts. Peggy rushes to find Shirley and she finally locates her at The Launderette. As Peggy expresses her concerns about her son, Phil takes his anger out on the car he's fixing. Seeing the damage he's caused, Phil breaks down.

Later, Shirley's concerned to find The Arches empty. Returning home, she finds Phil and immediately asks if he's been drinking. Phil denies the accusation, before collecting the bottles of spirits and taking them across to The Vic.

Elsewhere, Ian forces Lucy to open up the chippy as punishment for giving away free food; Ian lets Phil know how he feels about Ben's sentence; Stacey's furious to realise that Jean's taken Lily for a walk, despite her disapproval of the idea; Ian denies shortchanging Syed; Adam reminds Lucy about their deal; Lucy's summoned to school with a parent; Stacey finally tracks down Jean and Lily; Ian apologises to Syed and hands back the money he owes; Ronnie tries to calm Stacey down but Stacey's clear - she'll decide what happens to her daughter; Lucy reveals that she's destined for Oxbridge; and Ronnie admits to Jack that the miscarriage she had was Owen's baby.
