EastEnders' iconic pub The Queen Victoria is to topple in a blazing inferno later this year. :)

The pub, which has stood in its current state since the soap's inception 25 years ago, will burn down in the autumn and could tie in with the departure of Walford matriarch Peggy Mitchell (Barbara Windsor).

Little is known about Peggy's exit plot but executive producer Bryan Kirkwood told DS that it will be "both epic and poignant". :rotfl:

A show source said: "It's set to be a spectacular episode. No-one knows yet if Peggy dies we live in hope in the fire but they are also writing out a host of other characters, so there is a good chance someone will be killed off when the Vic burns."

In total, 13 cast members - including Stacey Slater (Lacey Turner), Charlie Slater (Derek Martin) and Chelsea Fox (Tiana Benjamin) - are being written out before the end of the year.

The decision to destroy The Vic's exterior in a fire ties in with the soap's transition to HD, in which key sets must be completely refurbished to ensure their standard in the higher quality format.

Well, you can't have a Queen Vic without the Queen of Walford can you, alan? I'm sure you will agree...

The Queen Vic pub in ‘EastEnders’ will be destroyed in a fire as part of a storyline later this year.

The iconic pub, which has featured in the show since its first episode more than 25 years ago, will burn down in the autumn, according to reports.

It is believed that the dramatic storyline will coincide with the departure of Barbara Windsor, who plays Peggy Mitchell. However, it has not yet been revealed if she will perish in the blaze.

‘EastEnders' producer Bryan Kirkwood recently told Digital Spy that Peggy's exit will be 'both epic and poignant', fuelling speculation that she will die in the fire.

A show source said: "It's set to be a spectacular episode. No-one knows yet if Peggy dies in the fire but they are also writing out a host of other characters, so there is a good chance someone will be killed off when the Vic burns."

A massive 13 cast members are set to depart the soap before the end of the year so it's possible that there will be many casualties in the inferno.

Parts of the 'EastEnders' set, including the Queen Vic, are to be rebuilt as part of the soap's move to HD. 'Coronation Street' bosses have also recently had to make changes to their set for similar reasons.

Last week I think it was, she said she wouldn't rest till she gets the pub back...
Maybe she gets the pub back and as soon as she does, something happens and bam, the fire! Dramatic exit for Peggy :)

Of course she won't die. In spite of alan's reservations, that would effectively rule out her triumphant return in the next year or so to save the ailing soap's viewing figures.

I'm pretty sure this will be linked in with Sam's return, and even if she doesn't die, will be a component in Peggy's exit somehow. I'm thinking either Charlie or Minty could die trying to save Peggy from the flames, and Lucy could die also. Perhaps Glenda too, because I don't think she's staying full time?

EastEnders returnees Kat and Alfie Moon will regain Walford's local watering hole The Queen Victoria on their return to the Square.

The show favourites - played by Jessie Wallace and Shane Richie - are expected to make their screen comeback at around the time of the Queen Vic fire.

According to The Mirror, the deliberate blaze - which is also thought to tie in with Barbara Windsor's departure from the soap as Peggy Mitchell - leaves the pub as nothing more than a mere shell and Alfie's first order of business is to rebuild the place from the ground up.

Kat, meanwhile, allegedly reprises her role behind the bar as landlady.

A show source said: "Alfie has big plans for the pub. He managed it for The Duchess for a while when he first arrived in Walford - so he'll soon be back where he belongs with Kat by his side."

They added: "Even though the fire completely guts the place, the bronze bust is one of the only items to survive - it'll still be in pride of place when The Vic reopens."

Show bosses are remaining tight-lipped about their return but a spokesperson said: "We're looking forward to the return of Kat and Alfie later this year."

Kat and Alfie were last seen in Walford on Christmas Day 2005 when they drove off into the sunset together in their Ford Capri bound for America.

This is the dramatic moment that a fire starts at the Queen Vic in an EastEnders episode that will change Albert Square forever.

As revealed yesterday, crack addict Phil Mitchell (Steve McFadden) sets the iconic pub alight during a furious row with mum Peggy (Barbara Windsor) over his recent drug use.

http://i2.cdnds.net/10/34/550w_soaps_eastenders_queen_vic_fire_01.jpg

Peggy has been making a desperate attempt to get Phil clean again by locking him upstairs in The Vic and ignoring his pleas to be let out. However, when Phil makes an escape and Peggy tries to stop him from stealing more money from the business, the pair have a huge showdown.

As their argument reaches its climax, Phil threatens to burn down the pub. Though Peggy thinks her son is only bluffing, he throws down a lit match and she's horrified as they're surrounded by flames.

http://i2.cdnds.net/10/34/550w_soaps_eastenders_queen_vic_fire_02.jpg

The fire soon spreads and spirals out of control, prompting everyone inside to try to escape.

Will Peggy and Phil make it out alive? And what about the rest of Albert Square's residents?

These scenes air on Thursday, September 9 at 7.30pm on BBC One.

Explosive images from this week's landmark episode of EastEnders reveal the moment the iconic Queen Vic pub is engulfed in flames.

New stills show couple Max and Vanessa - played by Jake Wood and Zoe Lucker - screaming in horror as a huge fireball erupts.

Speculation is mounting that Peggy Mitchell, played by Barbara Windsor, will die in the blaze, as the actress has left the soap after 16 years.

She filmed her final scenes last month but how she will be written out is yet to be announced.

According to reports, her son Phil starts the blaze during a fight between the two, where she tried to convince the junkie to get off drugs.

New life: a New set has been built for the show's move to HD this autumn

‘The show has changed my life and I want you all to continue the good work, because I'll be at home watching you.’

Steve McFadden, who plays Phil, hinted at a sensational upcoming plot, promising fans that 'they will not be disappointed' by her exit storyline.
Miss Windsor first started on the soap in 1994, but quit to spend more time with her family.

Despite the devastating fire, it appears the pub will be given new life, as a new Queen Vic set has been installed for the show's HD relaunch this year.

Earlier this year, after Miss Windsor quit, it was announced that that a host of other characters in the soap are being axed.

There is speculation that some of some, if not all of them, could perish in the fire.

Six characters, including mechanic Rick 'Minty' Peterson, taxi driver Charlie Slater and student Libby Fox, will have 'exciting exits', the BBC has promised.

It's the end of an era on EastEnders next week as a blazing inferno burns down the Queen Vic, marking the end of the iconic pub as we know it.

As seen in pictures which were released over the Bank Holiday weekend, the dramatic turn of events is caused by troubled Phil Mitchell - who lights the fire at his mum Peggy's beloved boozer as they have a massive row.

Before filming on the challenging episode began, a replica set of the Queen Vic was built on the George Lucas Stage at Elstree Studios for the shooting of some of the interior scenes.

Here, we take a look behind the scenes as Barbara Windsor, Steve McFadden and other EastEnders cast members film one of this year's most-anticipated episodes.

BBC soap EastEnders will screen some of its most-anticipated episodes of the year next week as crack addict Phil Mitchell sets fire to the Queen Vic. As the flames quickly spread and the pub's locals try to make their escape, emotions run high and lives are put on the line during the spectacular scenes. The shock storyline ties in with Barbara Windsor's departure from the role of Walford icon Peggy Mitchell, though details of her final moments in the Square are still being kept closely under wraps. Lee Salisbury (pictured with Barbara Windsor) directed all four of next week's episodes, so DS recently chatted to him to find out more.

When did you first learn that you'd be directing the Queen Vic fire week?
"It was only about three weeks before I started work on the episodes, actually! It was at the British Soap Awards - I met up with Bryan Kirkwood and I was working on Emmerdale at the time. I knew that I was coming back to do more work on EastEnders, but that was the night when they told me what I'd actually be doing. I was slightly shellshocked. I'd only learned that night that there was going to be a big fire and that it was going to be Barbara Windsor's leaving week as well, so I was a bit dumbstruck!"

Were you proud to be chosen for such a big moment?
"Oh God, yeah! It's an amazing block to be given. EastEnders' big weeks are always massive, but to be involved in such an iconic character's departure was just great. You do feel like you've made a piece of TV history, so it was very nice that I got it."

Everyone tries to evacuate the pub.
What were your main aims when you started to make plans for the fire episode?
"Well, a fire is probably the hardest thing to film because obviously you can't actually set fire to stuff, so to make it looks real is the hardest thing. I think if anybody's actually been in a fire, they'll know that fire spreads and takes hold so quickly, so my main aim was to show the fear, panic and pandemonium that goes on in a fire instantly. The fire had to take hold and literally just consume everything really quickly. I also think that a big stunt has to focus around the actual characters and be character-led, rather than being led by the fire. If you're concentrating on the characters and their stories, the fire almost becomes a backdrop - you're missing all of the special effects and you're just in the journeys of the characters. I think the best thing about this episode is that the Queen Vic actually becomes a character itself, and it's really emotional to watch."

How long did it take to film the episode?
"We had 17 days to film the entire week's worth of episodes. Normally we have eight days to film four episodes, so we did have a big chunk of extra time. As for the fire itself, we had five night shoots where we shot the exterior of the fire, and for the other scenes we were using the Elstree Film Studios. We built the interior of The Vic there on a big fire stage. We had four days filming there as well, so the fire itself took around nine days of shooting."

Peggy runs back into the Vic.
Were there any particular challenges or surprises during filming?
"The one thing that we didn't expect happened on the night we did the actual big explosion at the end. We'd got all of the cast members who were involved to watch, because obviously we had to film all of their reactions separately. We were sitting there and it was about 10.30pm and Big Brother films down the road from us. Barbara was sitting next to me and she suddenly said, 'Oh, it's really quiet', because we'd expected it to be quite loud because of the eviction. Then, all of a sudden, all of the power went off in Albert Square and we were all plunged into complete darkness! It was a big shock and all of the special effects guys were in the pub, so they obviously had to get everything turned off before it exploded and we couldn't run on it!"

You mentioned trying to find the right balance between the characters' stories and the stunt itself - how hard is it to strike that balance?
"It is quite hard. It's interesting reading all the buzz about the fire on forums, because I think most people think it's just going to be a big explosion at the end of the episode and that's it. But the fire actually lasts for a while and I don't think that's really been done before. It's a huge length of time. Knowing that it was going to be like that meant it could be really pacey and we could divide the characters' scenes up into tiny bits. Bryan Kirkwood, the writer and myself also wanted it to be an episode where things kept happening and the audience would keep thinking, 'Wow, that must have been the explosion' or 'That must have been the stunt'. But more things keep happening and happening, and I think that's what people will find really shocking."

The tension between Phil and Peggy explodes.
What's the build-up to the fire like?
"The week itself really builds - there's a lot going on with Stacey, there's a lot going on with Ryan and Janine, and a lot going on with Peggy and Phil. The amount of stories that are so up in the air when the fire starts means that it's so much more exciting, because of the relationships between people and how they're put in jeopardy by the fire. It's compelling because there's not just one person who you're focused on in the fire - it's literally the whole cast who are involved."

Now that you've seen the finished episode, are you proud of it and do you think it can live up to the hype?
"That was the biggest thing for me when I took it on - knowing the hype that would be around it, along with the pressure and expectation from everyone. I think that now the audience is used to watching so many films and blockbuster movies, the expectations when it comes to special effects are so high. But I'm really proud of the finished product. Like I said, my aim was to make it really quick, to really grab people and make it feel like the viewer is really with the characters, so I didn't go in wanting to do big, sweeping arty shots. I think that the episode will be quite different to what people are expecting it to be."

I recently had a chat with EastEnders director Lee Salisbury to discuss his work on the Queen Vic fire week, which starts airing tomorrow.

Click here to read the main part of the interview, which sees Lee reveal what his aims for the fire episode were and what fans can expect from the dramatic scenes.

Alternatively, read on for bonus bits from the chat, including Lee's thoughts on what the future will hold for Albert Square following the loss of The Vic in its current form…

How did working on this episode compare to directing the church fire on Emmerdale, which you did last year?
"It was similar in the way that it was a fire and, as I said earlier, it's the hardest thing to do because you can't set fire to things! But the church fire was never really supposed to be a huge event - it was more about the relationship between Laurel and Sally. Working on this one meant that we could go much more to town with special effects, so it was a lot different. I did the frozen lake stunt on Emmerdale as well, and I'd say that compares more to it because that was something that was really, really tricky, and there was a big budget for that, so there was more time and money to play with to make it look better."

When you were planning the episode, did you look back at any previous soap fires to see how you could do better?
"I did, but it's a bit like an actor who's going for a part that's already been played before - sometimes it's good to look and sometimes it's not. I got the scripts, came up with my vision and planned it before I watched anything else. Then after that I made the effort to watch a couple of EastEnders fires, I watched a couple of fires that people had mentioned to me that weren't just on soap. I'd obviously also done one myself and there was a recent one on Corrie that I'd watched as well. But my vision was already there."

Given that the producer and writer also have their own vision, as a director, how much freedom do you get to put your own stamp on an episode like this?
"You get a lot of freedom, actually. But it's a real team effort and you're constantly going back and forth with suggestions - it's very much an open table. I think when it comes to a stunt, it does fall more to the director in a way, because it's a lot more visual and it's the director who knows how it's all done and what's possible."

Peggy Mitchell in front of the burning Queen Vic in EastEnders
Do you think the fire will have a long-lasting effect on Albert Square?
"Oh yeah, it'll be huge. On the night that it happens, it's a huge effect - we had literally every cast member there, so almost every character is involved in the fire. There'll be huge ramifications and obviously it ties in with Barbara Windsor's departure, which in itself will have a huge effect on Albert Square. It leaves the questions of what will happen to the pub and what will happen to the Mitchells. And obviously Kat and Alfie are coming back, so it paves the way for that. I think in the fire, The Vic becomes such a character and it's actually really, really sad watching it go! When we filmed it, some of the actors who had been in EastEnders for a long time had tears in their eyes when we filmed the explosion. It's a huge part of EastEnders that has come to an end in its current state."

Have you enjoyed working with Bryan Kirkwood?
"Yes, I have. I'd only done a tiny bit of work on EastEnders before he arrived, so I can't really compare Bryan to anyone else. But I'd never worked with Bryan before and he's just an amazing person to work with. He's got a really strong vision, but at the same time he lets you be really creative as well. It's a 'round the table' process, which is the best way to be. I've got so much respect for Bryan and the work he did on Hollyoaks, and in my job I really want to impress him as well. It's great to be in a situation where you respect your boss so much."

EastEnders' executive producer Bryan Kirkwood has promised that there are "spectacular" scenes in store in tonight's much-anticipated Queen Vic fire episode.

In this evening's edition of the Walford soap, viewers will see a crazed Phil Mitchell (Steve McFadden) start a blaze at the iconic pub during a furious row with mum Peggy (Barbara Windsor).

Although the flames are likely to put lives in jeopardy, show bosses are keeping tight-lipped over whether there will be deaths or injuries.

Speaking to the official EastEnders website, Kirkwood commented: "The Queen Vic fire is one of the most exciting things that we've got coming up. It marks our autumn launch and it also contributes to Barbara Windsor's departure from the show.

"I don't want to say too much about it, because I would rather the viewers found out for themselves, but it's one of the most spectacular stunts that EastEnders has ever seen, and it's very exciting. And who knows how Barbara will leave the show?"

As revealed back in July, returnees Kat and Alfie Moon will regain The Vic later this year and concentrate on rebuilding the destroyed boozer from the ground up.

Kirkwood added: "When I joined the show and found out that Barbara Windsor was leaving, we had to sit down and talk about who would take over the Queen Vic, and there were two immediate options available to us - Kat and Alfie, who are two of the most popular and iconic characters the show has ever seen.

"So they return to us in late September, and very much herald the new era of EastEnders. They both bring with them joy and fun, a sense of humour - and an appetite for big drama. So I'm very excited about their return."

EastEnders' Queen Vic fire storyline has sparked a warning from the London Fire Brigade (LFB), which has spoken out to warn the public about the dangers of real-life blazes.

Later this evening, soap fans will see Phil Mitchell (Steve McFadden) set the Albert Square pub alight during a row with mum Peggy (Barbara Windsor), causing chaos and putting lives in jeopardy.

Amid the publicity surrounding tonight's much-anticipated episode, London Fire Commissioner Ron Dobson has urged the public to prepare for the event of a fire by planning an escape route and purchasing a smoke alarm.

In a statement released on the LFB website, Dobson commented: "EastEnders is set to show how dramatic and distressing fire can be, but while we quickly forget about the latest television plot, the devastation of a serious house fire can stay with us for years.

"If everyone gets a smoke alarm, checks it regularly and also makes an escape plan we can make a real difference and prevent serious injury and deaths."

Figures released earlier this week showed that 50 people died in accidental fires last year - an increase of almost 20% compared to 2008. There was also an increase in the total number of accidental fires in the home.

If the emergency services were to issue warnings about every storyline in Deadenders or any soap for that matter then they would never be off our backs.

The police would be on warning us not to murder anyone or else you would get into big trouble and the nasty men in blue would come and take you away, unless of course you are a Mitchell. Dont push postmen off a roof unless you live in Emmerdale. Dont bury bodies in a factory unless you live in Weatherfield.

I appreciate the Fire and Rescue Service using this episode to highlight the dangers but most of us can tell the difference between a soap storyline and real life

It's now been more than two months since we first heard that The Vic would burn down in EastEnders, and after weeks of frenzied rumour and speculation, this evening we'll finally see the episode that everyone has been talking about.

Thanks to the official pictures that have been released of tonight's instalment, as well as the spoilers, we already know a few details of what to expect - but plenty of questions still remain: Will Peggy die? Will everyone else make it out of the pub alive? Just how much damage will be done to The Vic? And could there be any more twists in store? Join DS here from 7.30pm as we provide live updates of tonight's game-changing episode and find out the answers. And don't forget to use the form at the bottom of the page to have your say!

7.30pm - The episode opens in The Vic and we pick up where Tuesday night's instalment ended - Janine's wedding reception is continuing in the pub, and Stacey has just confessed to Peggy that she killed Archie. At first, Peggy thinks it's all a sick joke, but she's stunned as she realises that Stacey is deadly serious.

7.32pm - Stacey attempts to explain her actions by revealing to Peggy that Archie raped her. However, Peggy says that she doesn't believe Archie did anything of the sort and makes some insulting remarks about Stacey's history with men. Furious, she vows to call the police.

7.33pm - Peggy continues to unleash her fury at Stacey, expressing her shock at how she's let Bradley's name be blackened. She tells Stacey that she's responsible for the deaths of both Archie and Bradley, before shouting: "You disgust me! Go on, get out! Get out of my sight because I can't bear to watch you! GO ON, GET OUT OF MY PUB!"

7.34pm - Upstairs, Phil begs Billy for money so he can buy more drugs. A struggle follows, so Billy rushes outside the room and starts boarding up the door again, while Phil makes some sinister threats. Elsewhere, as Janine and Ricky begin the speeches, Stacey begs to speak to Ryan and drags him away.

7.35pm - Phil picks up the crowbar that Billy left behind in the room and manages to escape. After doing so, Phil repeatedly shouts "MONEY! NOW!" and steals some cash from the kitchen, before knocking back some booze.

7.36pm - In the toilets, Ryan thinks that Stacey is making a move on him, which she denies. She tries to explain what's so urgent, but when Pat walks in, Ryan reveals what's going on before making a swift exit.

7.37pm - Left alone with Stacey, Pat warns her that Ryan is a married man and she should leave him alone. Stacey orders her to mind her own business, prompting Pat to slap her. Pat says that it should act as a reminder - "Claws off Ryan. He's family now."

7.38pm - Peggy goes to make the phone call to the police about Stacey, but she soon has more pressing matters to worry about when Phil comes downstairs. She orders him back upstairs, but he refuses to be bossed around.

7.39pm - Peggy informs a crazed Phil that she's not scared of him, as he vows to steal money from the till. As they argue further, Phil asks Peggy what kind of mother would lock her own son up.

7.40pm - Phil brings up the Louise fiasco, but Peggy defends herself - saying that she was just doing what was right for her. Phil accuses Peggy of driving his dad to an early grave. He rants at her for locking him upstairs and points out that he's in a complete state. There's no arguments from Peggy on that one, as she says: "I'm lookin' at ya - and it ain't pretty!"

7.41pm - Phil smashes some booze on to the floor and tells Peggy again that she's to blame for his current state, as she sobs. He argues that all she wants to do is to control her family and she's even worse than Archie because she's not honest about it.

7.42pm - The argument between mother and son comes to a head as Phil says, "The truth is, you love this pub more than you love me. Go on, admit it!" Peggy tells him that he's right - she does…

7.43pm - Phil declares that he's going to do to Peggy what she did to him - take away the one thing she cares about. He picks up a matchbox, vows to burn down the pub and lights one of the matches. Peggy calls Phil's bluff by firmly saying that he doesn't have the nerve to do it. Phil then leaves Peggy utterly stunned by dropping the match, causing the hallway to go up in flames. He then lights and drops another match, and the fire spreads further.

7.44pm - Peggy runs into the main bar area and shouts at everyone to get out. Before anyone can figure out what's going on, there's a big explosion and it's chaos and carnage everywhere. Masood gets Dot to safety and tells her to call the fire brigade. Meanwhile, Stacey is still in the toilets…

7.45pm - Billy and Ricky make their escape from the pub. In all the chaos, Syed is knocked over. Masood gets Tamwar outside to safety, but then asks, "Where's your mother? Where's Syed?" He runs back inside, where Zainab tries to make sure Syed is safe and ensures he gets up from the floor.

7.46pm - Max, Vanessa, Janine, Ryan and Whitney are now among the characters who have made their way outside. Masood makes sure that Syed gets out of the pub safely. Inside, Pat tries to convince Peggy to leave the pub, and Billy - now back inside - drags her out. Stacey emerges from the toilets and rushes upstairs to rescue Lily.

7.47pm - Stacey now has Lily with her, but the fire has now spread too much for her to return downstairs. Due to the boarded-up windows, she's completely trapped.

7.49pm - Outside, a frantic Peggy shouts about the pub and argues that they can't all just stand there and do nothing. Back inside, Phil and Stacey are still in severe danger as the flames spread…

7.50pm - Stacey finds the crowbar and starts trying to remove the boards from the windows. Outside, Peggy looks distraught over what is happening. Inside, Phil tries to steal money from the till - but the bar above comes crashing down on to him…

7.51pm - Max, Peggy, Billy, Roxy, Ronnie and Jay rush back in when they realise that Phil is still inside. Meanwhile, Stacey has removed the boards and smashes the upstairs window, alerting everyone below to her presence. Ryan uses a ladder to climb up and successfully collects Lily. Stacey is now left alone in the upstairs room...

7.52pm - The fire is now edging dangerously close to Stacey. Now back outside with Ronnie, a distraught Roxy fears that her family will die inside. Meanwhile, Glenda arrives back on the Square and is shocked by the chaotic scenes.

7.53pm - Peggy and Billy drag Phil outside, meaning that all of the Mitchells are now safely out of the pub. Meanwhile, Ryan climbs back up the ladder to rescue Stacey.

7.54pm - Ryan climbs into the room - where Stacey is unconscious on the floor. As he picks her up and brings her down the ladder, there's a big explosion and they fall to the ground. A series of massive explosions follow as The Vic is now completely consumed by flames. Everyone watches on from a distance, and Peggy looks completely devastated.

7.55pm - Stacey and Ryan have both survived their fall. Stacey is relieved to hear that Lily is fine, and soon drops a bombshell on Ryan, telling him: "She's yours. She's your daughter!"

7.57pm - Peggy seems unable to comprehend what is happening. As she stands in the Square, there's some moments of silence from her, but then she cries: "Let it burn! Let it burn…" as the episode ends.

Now we've all seen that Peggy Mitchell managed to survive the Queen Vic fire, it's no longer a secret that her final EastEnders episode will actually be airing tomorrow.

The extended edition of the Walford drama will air between 8.00pm and 8.40pm and see Barbara Windsor's final moments in the role that made her a soap legend.

If you don't already know, immediately after her final episode airs, there's an EastEnders Revealed special airing on BBC One, titled Peggy Mitchell - Queen of The Vic.

The 20-minute tribute reminds viewers of ten moments that helped to make the Mitchell matriarch such a popular and iconic figure. With so many to choose from, how they narrowed them down is anyone's guess!

Scenes included in the special include Windsor's first appearance as Peggy and her forthcoming exit.

The trials and tribulations of Peggy's troubled love life, her experiences as The Vic's landlady and turbulent relationship with her beloved family will also feature in the trip down memory lane.

Peggy Mitchell makes a life-changing decision in tonight's episode of EastEnders, realising that she needs to bow out of Albert Square for the sake of her beloved family.

As a new day dawns following the Queen Vic fire, the Mitchells are still reeling from the shocking events and it's unclear whether they will ever be able to recover.

However, after considering everything that has happened to her family recently, Peggy ultimately decides that the best thing for all of them is to stand on their own two feet - which means she has to leave.

Before making her departure, a distraught Peggy pays one final visit to The Vic, which is now little more than a shell after being destroyed by the blaze.

Determined for the police not to find out that Phil started the fire, Peggy also visits Stacey - telling her to take the blame for the crime, as her sentence for arson will be less than it would be for Archie's murder.

Facing a new dilemma, what will Stacey do? And how will Albert Square cope without its first lady?

Peggy's final EastEnders episode airs tonight at 8pm on BBC One, and will be followed by EastEnders Revealed - Peggy Mitchell, Queen of The Vic at 8.40pm.

Very unusual for there not to have been any deaths. They could have killed off some old pensioner who nobody had ever heard of. Oh I forgot they already did that
