Jonathan Ross is reportedly in talks to take his chat show to ITV, in a deal worth £2m a year.

The presenter, 49, would still be able to work on other channels as part of the deal.

A source told the News Of The World: "Channel 4 really wants Jonathan. But it can't spend the same amount of money as ITV so any deal would be for smaller shows.

"ITV boss Peter Fincham also loves Jonathan's work, so he made an initial approach and things developed from there."

Another source added: "He'll probably still host the BAFTAs for the BBC and wants to host the British Comedy Awards, which are moving to Channel 4."

Ross quit the BBC earlier this year in the wake of the Andrew Sachs scandal.

ITV has confirmed that Jonathan Ross will host a new chatshow on the network from next year.

The star's final edition of Friday Night With Jonathan Ross, featuring David Beckham among the guests, will air on BBC One on July 16.

Media Guardian confirms that Ross has signed a deal to produce a "brand new show for ITV1". The 18-episode series is expected to air on a Friday or Saturday night following X Factor from late 2011.

In a statement, Ross said: "I am thrilled and excited that after a short break I will be rolling up my sleeves and creating a brand new show for ITV1.

"I have worked successfully with most of the key figures at the network in the past and cannot wait to get back on screen with a fast, funny, and unpredictable new talk show."

The 49 year-old presenter, who will continue to host The British Comedy Awards on Channel 4 had previously said that he intended to take a year off.
