Home and Away star Luke Mitchell has hinted that a new romance could be on the cards for his character Romeo Smith.

Speaking in an interview with TV Week, the actor revealed that Indigo Walker takes an instant shine to Romeo when she makes her return to Summer Bay later this month.

Mitchell told the magazine: "They meet at school. There's an attraction, because Indi's a beautiful girl, but Romeo isn't looking for a girlfriend. He's still heartbroken over Anni.

"Initially, Indi goes out of her way to see that he's okay - even though she doesn't know him, so he thinks it's nice that she cares about him. They have a lot in common, but he tells her he's not looking for romance."

Asked whether their early scenes could prove to be the start of a budding relationship, Mitchell teased: "There's nothing happening in the near future - but down the track? Possibly!"

Indigo - played by former Out of the Blue actress Samara Weaving - is returning to Home and Away along with the rest of the Walker family. They had a brief stint on the show last year.

Home and Away star Samara Weaving has admitted that her character Indigo Walker and love interest Romeo Smith are likely to face a rocky road before they finally get together.

The Summer Bay duo have taken a shine to each other following Indigo's recent return to the soap, and the pair are due to share a kiss on Australian screens next week.

Speaking to TV Week about the surprise moment, Weaving explained: "It's quite funny because Indigo is yelling at Romeo for reading into their friendship too much, and then he decides to just kiss her as she's half-way through telling him off!

"It's what she's always wanted ever since she saw him, so it's a kiss that makes her totally forget what she's saying and why she was angry at him in the first place."

However, the actress added: "Indigo responds well to the kiss, but there's definitely still some speed bumps pending in them getting together. Indi definitely thinks that this is going to be a relationship, whereas Romeo has his doubts about it."

Romeo's portrayer Luke Mitchell first hinted at a romance storyline for the pair last month.

Home and Away star Samara Weaving has revealed that her character Indigo Walker will soon confess a surprising secret to boyfriend Romeo.

In scenes which air in Australia next week, fans will see Indigo admit that she has been reluctant to take her romance with Romeo (Luke Mitchell) to the next level due to unresolved issues from a previous relationship.

Although Indigo initially starts ignoring Romeo completely in a bid to avoid the matter, she eventually explains that she was once left heartbroken and stunned when her ex-boyfriend Owen started dating her mother.

Speaking to TV Week, Weaving explained: "Indi won't take Romeo's calls and is avoiding him because something is bringing back painful memories of her last boyfriend Owen. Indi hasn't gained closure over that relationship and didn't realise until she got close to Romeo that she still has unresolved feelings about her past."

She continued: "Owen is in a relationship with Indi's mum. And it's definitely caused some deep insecurity."

In further scenes, Romeo encourages Indigo to email her mother and attempt to sort things out, leaving viewers to wonder whether the plan will be a success or backfire.

Weaving returned to the role of Indigo earlier this year.
