Sanjeev Bhaskar has said he's looking forward to playing an Indian doctor in a new BBC drama.

The actor stars in the five-part series - with a working title of The Indian Doctor - which is set in the 1960s and sees his character Dr Prem Patel end up in a small Welsh village.

The Goodness Gracious Me star revealed: "I'm just about to start filming on a five-part drama for the BBC where I play an Indian doctor who ends up in a small Welsh mining village in 1963.

"Part of the fun of this is his take on Britain and this little Welsh mining village in the 60s and their take on him, so it's kind of fun."

The show is part of the BBC's celebrations of the 1960s.
