Coronation Street's Audrey Roberts is to plot a permanent move to Greece in a new Shirley Valentine-style storyline, it has been revealed.

According to reports, the smitten salon owner decides to quit Weatherfield later this year in favour of a new life abroad with lover Lewis Archer (Nigel Havers).

It is thought that the couple put in an offer for a hotel on the Greek island Alonissos and are overjoyed when it is accepted. Following the good news, Audrey is expected to start making plans to sell her hairdressing business.

Although her grandson David (Jack P. Shepherd) offers to take over as the salon's manager and send her a slice of his profits, Audrey remains determined to sell up, telling him: "I don't want any ties."

The Mirror reports that fans will be left to wonder whether Audrey - played by Sue Nicholls - really will go ahead with her plans to quit the UK for good.

A show spokesperson teased: "With her daughter Gail facing life in jail, it can't be denied Audrey would want to bid farewell to the Street."

Shirley Valentine is a play composed by Willy Russell telling the story of a bored housewife who falls in love with life in Greece while on holiday there. It was later adapted into a 1989 film starring Pauline Collins.

Sue, 66, has told pals she has loved starring with Havers and a Corrie source commented: "It's a breath of fresh air for her."

Bosses refuse to reveal what the future holds but a show spokeswoman said: "With her daughter Gail facing life in jail, it can't be denied Audrey would want to bid farewell to the Street."


When is Natasha leavin? Before the possible purchase of the salon? I suppose Maria is going to buy the salon, wish she had stayed aways :(

Already posted SEE 1st post this thread. This is an old story as it refers to Gail facing life in Jail which as we all know wont be happening

Maybe so but it still refers to Gails Court Case which is over.

I think it's more likely that Maria will buy the salon, given that she's just sold her house and that she's not leaving the show. It would also give her a reason to come back to the street.

If Maria and Natasha buy it together, maybe Natasha won't be able to afford the repayments on the loan, adding to the stress which will cause her suicide.

I know Dazzle that this is the most likely scenario, I just wondered whether Natasha can buy a share or not, just contemplating possible furure storylines

Perdita you havent upset me and indeed you rarely do. My point was that I just didnt see the point of pasting an old post with the addition of a line about Maria and Natasha. For what its worth I think Maria will buy the Salon as she has sod Ladrags and her house.
