Geoffrey Hughes has revealed that he turned down the opportunity to return to Coronation Street.

The 66-year-old actor, who played a recurring role as binman Eddie Yeats on the programme between 1974 and 1987, claims that his life on the Isle of Man would stop him returning to full-time work.

He told the Southern Daily Echo: “"Living on the Island, I am totally content. I'm very, very happy here."

Following his stint on the ITV1 soap, Hughes has starred in Heartbeat, Keeping Up Appearances and The Royle Family.

Would love to have seen Eddie again :D

I think this is a very wise decision by Geoff. Yes a return to the street would make him loads of money but he is realilistic enough to know that life has moved on and there is no-one on the street for Eddie Yates to return for. Eddie would be welcomed back by many a long corrie fan, but we don't want to ruin the memory we have of him.

FORMER Corrie veteran Geoffrey Hughes has revealed he turned down a cobbles comeback because he's happier with his quiet country life.
The 66-year-old - who played binman Eddie Yeats in the '70s and '80s - has lived on the Isle of Wight for nine years and said he would hate to give it up for a return to the Manchester-based soap.

Geoffrey said: "I'm totally content. I'm very, very happy here."

He sounds very happy and content, so this was the right decision for him.
