Men In Black director Barry Sonnenfeld has confirmed Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones's involvement in the new sequel.

Sonnenfeld reportedly told Showbiz 411 that, despite rumours of Smith's departure, the actor has signed on to return alongside Jones.

The filmmaker added that the movie will also be made in 3D and could be the big blockbuster release for May 2011's Memorial Day weekend.

The first two Men In Black movies, which starred Smith and Jones as covert agents monitoring aliens on Earth, grossed a combined $1bn at the worldwide box office.

Flight of the Conchords star Jemaine Clement has been set to play the villainous Yaz in Men in Black III, the sequel that is being fast-tracked by Columbia Pictures. Will Smith stars with Tommy Lee Jones and Josh Brolin, and Barry Sonnenfeld directs.

Emma Thompson has signed on to play an agent in 'Men In Black III'.

The British actress will star in the blockbuster sequel alongside returning stars Tommy Lee Jones and Will Smith. Thompson will play Agent Oh - who, according to the film's press release, will play an "MIB agent from the '60s monitoring a prison break".

The film will focus on Smith's Agent travelling through time to save the world again. He ends up meeting a young Tommy Lee Jones in the film, played by 'No Country for Old Men's Josh Brolin.

One of New Zealand's most famous exports since Peter Jackson, Jermain Clement (best known for comedy act Flight of the Concords), will play the film's villain.

Barry Sonnenfeld will direct once more - his first time behind the camera since 2006's 'Runaway Vacation'.

'Men in Black III' will be released in 2012.
