Hollyoaks boss Paul Marquess has revealed that he has a shocking storyline in store for schemer Cindy Cunningham.

Cindy will leave the Channel 4 soap temporarily later this year because Stephanie Waring, who plays the character, is expecting her second child.

In an interview with Inside Soap, Marquess confirmed that Cindy will depart with a bang and also promised that interesting times are ahead for her husband Tony (Nick Pickard).

Marquess commented: "We've got big plans for Tony, especially as Cindy will be bowing out when Steph Waring goes on maternity leave in the summer."

Asked how Cindy leaves, he replied: "All I can say is that it's really outrageous. When I told Steph, her jaw hit the floor - and then bounced back up again!"

Waring announced her pregnancy last month. She is already mother to a young daughter named Mia, who she welcomed in 2005.

I'd personally be glad if she left permanently.

Knowing Marquess's penchant for outrageous storylines this comes as no surprise. It will come as no surprise either when Hollyoaks is axed

I'm afraid I have to agree with Alan, I think it has gone past the point of no return unfortunately.

Lime PicturesHollyoaks star Stephanie Waring has hinted that her character Cindy Longford will be back to her bitchy ways when she makes a comeback in the New Year.

The actress returns to filming at the Channel 4 soap in January after taking time off for maternity leave.

Waring gave birth to her second daughter Lexi Grace in September. In the same month, fans saw Cindy leave the village for an extended honeymoon after marrying 72-year-old millionaire Alistair.

Writing on Twitter on Friday, Waring revealed: "Eeek got my scripts through this morning! Can't believe how fast my time off has gone! Looking forward to going back!"

The star said that there is "lots of comedy" in store for Cindy, who tied the knot with Alistair for his money alone.

She later added: "Everyone is going to love to hate Cindy! The bitch is back!"

Waring has been part of the Hollyoaks cast on and off since 1996.
