View Full Version : Sutherland confirms '24' movie series
Kiefer Sutherland has revealed that a 24 movie franchise will be launched now that the series has been axed.
The actor confirmed that a feature film and sequels are in the works, with the first taking Jack Bauer outside of the US.
"The film will be a two-hour representation of a 24-hour day, so all of a sudden, the restrictions of the real-time aspect are lifted. Which is huge," he told Total Film.
"To put it in context, in the series, every crisis had to come to us, because we couldn't move. Who wants to see Jack Bauer sit on a plane for four hours? But in the format of the film, it will be very feasible to go from Eastern Europe to London in the space of 24 hours, so all of a sudden there is so much more latitude. The skies have opened up!"
The final season of 24 is currently airing on Sky1 in the UK and Fox in the US.
Should please Kath, lots of box sets to be had :D

You could write to the producers of LOST and suggest a movie, they might oblige :D
Kiefer Sutherland has revealed some further details about the upcoming 24 feature film.
Speaking to IGN UK, Sutherland said that writer Billy Ray had completed movie's script a few weeks ago.
The star said the film would most likely cover a 24-hour time period, but the film's running time will be no longer than two hours.
Sutherland also hinted that the plot could possibly mirror the show's first season, giving Jack Bauer a personal crisis to deal with.
"It doesn't have to be a bomb," he said. "It can be something personal that people understand."
20th Century Fox has yet to announce a production start date for the theatrical project.
Good news for fans of the hit TV series 24, actor Keiffer Sutherland has said that work on a movie version of the programme has already begun.
Speaking at a fan event in Tokyo Sutherland, who plays lead character special agent Jack Bauer, said: "It's a little early for me to say, but some amazing film makers have made themselves available to make the film and so we're very excited.
"It's going to look, I think, very different than the show but some circumstances are going to be very similar. It's gonna be a bad day, and Jack Bauer will somehow find himself in the middle of it."
Sutherland went on to explain that some elements will have to change for the movie though: "The main difference of the film will be that it will be a two-hour-presentation of a 24-hour-day. It will not be in real time, which will free the writers up greatly.
"It is very feasible to fly from the United States to Japan, and still have a lot of stuff to do. We can never do that in real time because the flight is 14 hours, that would just not be very good watching."
The cliffhanger ending to the television series left loyal fans guessing about which direction the planned movie will go in, and fans will have to keep guessing as Sutherland gave nothing else away.

As long as Jack and Chloe are back should be great
Mary Lynn Rajskub thinks her 24 alter-ego has more to give in the film version of the hit TV show - including in the bedroom.
The actress and comedian reckons obnoxious CTU worker Chloe O'Brian could be doing "a lot more".
She said: "I think Chloe has a lot more to do in the world. She just got in charge in season 8, and then it was over.
"I think there should be more of Chloe in charge, more hand-to-hand combat with Chloe, and more computers and more sex. There's a lot more that Chloe could be doing."
Despite being in the movie, Mary Lynn admitted filming the emotional final scenes of the TV series was difficult to cope with - though she was honoured to be a part of it.
"It was saying goodbye to the series, saying goodbye to the people that i worked with and saying goodbye to this period of my life," she said.
She added: "Coming from a character that I thought wouldn't really last, to being at the emotional centre at the end and really say goodbye to the series was really a big deal. That was great."
:: Season eight of 24 and the box set of all eight seasons are available now on DVD and Blu-ray.
Kiefer Sutherland has revealed how watching back previous seasons of 24 has been an "eye-opener" for him, and how it has made him feel nostalgic about the last ten years.
The actor - who played counter-terrorist agent Jack Bauer - is currently filming a documentary about the series. He explained that he was shocked by how much he had changed over the course of the show.
Speaking to Empire about his time on the series, he said: "Our ageing is documented through the show - it's a bit of an eye-opener. Though if you actually do the math, Jack Bauer is now about 85 years old!"
He added: "We're putting a documentary together, so I sat down with Rodney Charters, the cinematographer, to look at behind-the-scenes footage from the last eight years. We were laughing, then it got to stuff from the later seasons and it wasn't funny anymore."
Kiefer Sutherland has claimed that a movie version of 24 will be released in cinemas next year.
Speaking on Late Night With Jimmy Fallon, the actor suggested that the film adaptation is "slated for the summer of 2012".
"[That] would mean that we'd have to start shooting in January," he explained. "We're moving everything towards accomplishing those dates."
Sutherland, who played federal agent Jack Bauer from 2001 to 2010, also confirmed that the movie will unfold as a "two-hour representation of a twenty-four hour day".
"What is really helpful for us, certainly from the writing point [of view], is that it won't be in real time," he said. "[Jack could] get on a plane to go somewhere. All of those things are possible now which were not possible in the show."
Former 24 producer Howard Gordon recently claimed that a movie version of the Fox drama is currently on hold.
A script for the film written by Flightplan scribe Billy Ray was rejected by Fox executives late last year.

Yes come on. Bring back Jack & Chloe :cheer:
The movie version of 24 is scheduled to begin filming in the spring of 2012, it has been confirmed.
The big-screen update of the long-running Fox drama starring Kiefer Sutherland is still in pre-production.
Die Hard 4 screenwriter Mark Bomback is said to be completing the latest script draft by the end of the year.
Production is now aiming to start in April to coincide with Sutherland's next availability, according to Deadline.
Sutherland had said in October that a first script for 24 was "nearly complete".
The project has been in development since the end of the eighth and final season last year.

Yipee I can't wait Chloe better be back and Aaron Pearce.
Kiefer Sutherland has confirmed the start date for the big-screen version of 24.
The 45-year-old star revealed on Sunday (January 8) at the Fox TCA panel for his new drama Touch that the film will begin shooting in late March/early April, as was reported in early December.
Sutherland also opened up about his role as a widower with an 11-year-old mute son in the upcoming series Touch.
"I remember getting to page 35 and thinking, 'S**t. I'm in real trouble here'," he said. "The character is so vastly different [from 24's Jack Bauer], the tone of the piece is so vastly different. And that's part of its appeal.
"Does it happen to be a nice diversion from 24?" Sutherland asked. "Yes. I just couldn't turn this down because it spoke to me on a really profound level."
Touch will premiere on March 19 at 9pm on Fox. A special preview of the series will air on January 25 at 9pm.

It's about bloody time my life is empty without 24.
Kiefer Sutherland has described the planned 24 movie as a "continuation" of the series.
Speaking at the TCA Winter Press Tour, Sutherland revealed that the film will pick up six months after the Fox drama's final episode.
"The status on the movie is that, hopefully, we will be shooting the end of April, beginning of May," he confirmed. "The script that we've got right now... I'm very, very excited about."
The actor added: "I see it as... relatively a direct continuation. It's within six months from the end of the last episode. We'll see where it goes from there."
When asked which 24 cast members might reprise their roles, Sutherland replied: "I can't say that."
24's executive producer Howard Gordon confirmed to Digital Spy in November 2010 that Mary Lynn Rajskub will appear in the proposed film as Chloe O'Brian.
Die Hard 4 screenwriter Mark Bomback was reported to be working on a new script draft for the project in December.d

I think the film wil last around 2 or 3 hours. They can't do a 24 hour movie. Good news that it's finally happening I can't wait to see Jack/Chloe on the big screen.
24 producer Howard Gordon has given an update on the proposed film version of the show.
Kiefer Sutherland, who played Jack Bauer on the Fox drama, announced in January that a movie spinoff would begin filming in April or May.
"I'm involved intimately with all of the drafts and with all of the people," Gordon told Deadline. "Including Mark Bomback on the rewrites and with Kiefer. There are a lot of people involved from [production company] Imagine and 20th [Century Fox]."
He continued: "I've kind of been enlisted as the keeper of the flame from the TV show and representing it in its next iteration. I'm not sure what kind of credit I'll be having on it yet."
Gordon also insisted that there is still an audience for the 24 film, two years after the show ended.
"You know, [Fox Filmed Entertainment executive] Tom Rothman is a very smart guy," he said. "He wouldn't do a 24 movie just to do it but only if he honestly believed it could stand on its own."
Gordon confirmed to Digital Spy in November 2010 that Mary Lynn Rajskub will reprise her role as Chloe O'Brian in the film.
The 24 movie has been hit by further delays, with 20th Century Fox shelving plans to put it in front of cameras in 2012.
Kiefer Sutherland recently told Digital Spy that he had hoped to reprise his role as counter-terrorism agent Jack Bauer during a break from filming his new TV drama Touch in April.
Deadline reports that backers Fox have refused to give the 24 movie spinoff the green light, believing that Sutherland did not have enough time to complete the movie during Touch's hiatus between seasons.
Antoine Fuqua, the director of Training Day and Shooter, was reportedly being lined up to direct the 24 movie before it suffered its latest delay.
Billy Ray and Mark Bomback's script is said to be designed to play out over three films, kick-starting a potential action movie franchise for Fox to rival the Die Hard series.
Brian Grazer and Sutherland are still on board to produce the 24 movie through Imagine Entertainment.

Howard Gordon has given an update on the 24 movie.
The long-gestating project was recently delayed again, with star Kiefer Sutherland claiming that shooting could be pushed back to 2013.
"Things went quiet in a way that I thought didn't bode well for that [movie]," Gordon - an exec producer on the original show - said. "But there's been some stirrings again, just recently."
The Homeland exec added that "everyone is still gunning" to bring the adventures of Jack Bauer (Sutherland) to the big screen, according to Collider.
"There's a script that's been written," he confirmed. "But I think there are going to be more issues about the director and Kiefer's schedule on [his new Fox series] Touch."
Sutherland recently dismissed the suggestion that interest in a 24 film is lessening the longer it takes the project to materialise.
"I think audiences still remember the series and have a huge interest in seeing what a film version would be like," he insisted. "People still tell me how much they loved Jack Bauer and I think audiences appreciated that he wasn't a typical hero-type and had many flaws and contradictions."
