Diane is back at work, but is shocked by the changes Connie has made, as the medical drama continues. Connie offers Diane a new registrar research position, based in the laboratory, and gives her Ric’s old office. When Donna asks Diane for help regarding a patient, she reminds her that she cannot treat a patient now unless it is an emergency. However, when Diane clashes with Connie over her new role, she decides to go ahead and treat the patient – but Connie finds out and reprimands her.
Later, Owen tries to convince Diane that her research position is a good thing but she is angry and says she wants to go to Ghana to bring Ric back.
The Keller staff are being downsized and everyone has to reapply for their jobs. Donna stays up all night, preparing for her interview, and gives a good performance, which impresses Lisa. Mark decides that he needs stability and goes to the interview, too, but does not perform as well. However, Lisa gives a job to Mark, based on his experience; Donna is not so lucky.
