A second series of EastEnders' online teen spinoff E20 has been greenlit by the BBC.

Following the success of the mini drama's initial 12 episodes, the public broadcaster has ordered a further 10 for a second run.

Series two will focus on a fresh set of four yet-to-be-cast youngsters as they settle into Walford life living in the flat above Roxy's salon.

The episodes are to be penned by the 13 young writers who scripted the first series.

Speaking of the recommission, EastEnders' executive producer Bryan Kirkwood said: "It'll be very exciting to see where our brilliant young writers will take the next series and the evolution of a whole new set of characters.

"The cast have been a noisy burst of fun in EastEnders and provided the show with new faces that audiences have really engaged with."

Simon Nelson, controller of portfolio and multi-platform at BBC Vision, added: "We had no hesitation in commissioning another series, something which will delight the 17,000 fans who've been calling for more episodes on the E20 Facebook page."

Three of the four original E20 cast - Emer Kenny (Zsa Zsa Carter), Sam Attwater (Leon Small) and Ricky Norwood (Fatboy) - were immediately picked up for the main show, while Bunmi Mojekwu (Mercy Olubunmi) signed a similar deal just before the close of series one.

Series one is due to be repeated from Friday, April 23 at 8.30pm on BBC Three in three 30-minute outings, while the second series of 14-minute eps will be made available on the show's official website later this year.

Please no, the orignal e20 was ok and only really good for introducing those four characters.

EastEnders bosses have reportedly ordered the writers of internet spinoff E20 to make it more controversial.

The BBC are said to be backing producer Bryan Kirkwood, who wants the show to feature more drugs and violence.

A source told the Daily Star Sunday: "Bryan was at Hollyoaks during the glory days. The BBC chiefs have every faith in him and have given him total control over what direction he takes E20.

"He is determined to push the boundaries, just like he did when he was on Hollyoaks. There will be a lot of heavy drug storylines involving dealers.

"It’s going to be dark and everyone working on the show is expecting quite a few raised eyebrows."

The show was handed a second run earlier this year.

EastEnders bosses have announced the four main cast members who are to star in the second series of the soap's online spinoff E20.

Actors Tosin Cole and Heshima Thompson have signed up to play troubled Solomon and Asher Levi, a pair of brothers who arrive in Albert Square in need of a place to crash.

Meanwhile, Emaa Hussen has taken on the role of Naz - who has problems of her own and is looking for somewhere where she can escape them.

Amanda Fairbank-Hynes completes the main cast in the part of Stephanie 'Stevie' Dickinson, who finds herself in Albert Square after being abandoned in the middle of Walford.

As the internet drama returns for its second run, the quartet of new characters all end up under the same roof - and it soon becomes clear that each one has something to hide.

EastEnders' executive producer Bryan Kirkwood commented: "EastEnders: E20 made a real impact the first time round, and this second series is set to do the same. The show is a fantastic platform for young, aspiring writers and actors to set the agenda. The audience are in for a real treat as these four exciting new characters will arrive in Albert Square with a bang."

E20 producer Deborah Sathe added: "I am delighted that E20 is going again and proud of what the writers have achieved. This time around, the E20 writers have created four new faces for the Square and their reaction to Walford life is really exciting. It's got all the ingredients of E20, but is bigger, faster, braver and even more fun."

Former Hollyoaks star Roxanne McKee - who played Louise Summers on the Channel 4 soap - will also appear in some episodes of the online show, portraying Pippa, the rich and sophisticated partner of Stevie's ex.

Additionally, producers have confirmed that Britain's Got Talent stars Flawless and fellow dance act Avant Garde are to make guest appearances on the programme.

The first run of the online spinoff was a massive success for the BBC and introduced viewers to Leon Small (Sam Attwater), Arthur 'Fatboy' Chubb (Ricky Norwood), Mercy Olubunmi (Bunmi Mojekwu) and Zsa Zsa Carter (Emer Kenny), who all later made the transition over to the main soap.

We now know that series two will centre around new arrivals Solomon, Asher, Naz and Stevie - who all turn up in Albert Square with something to hide and something they want to escape from.

Ahead of E20's return in September, here's a handy guide to each of the newcomers…

Name: Solomon Levi
Played by: Tosin Cole
Character info: Solomon has been looked after by his older brother Asher for most of his life and is currently finding it difficult to establish an identity of his own. He quickly falls for Naz after meeting her, but his terrible temper and psychopathic mother could threaten his one chance of happiness.
Tosin says: "It's a privilege to work on something so big but so different. Everyone is fantastic to work with. I'm really excited."
Tosin has previously starred in a modern adaptation of Shakespeare's 'Julius Caesar' set in urban London.

Name: Asher
Played by: Heshima Thompson
Character info: Bad boy Asher is trying to redeem himself following a stint in jail. However, he has an inability to say no to easy money - and his brother and mum always seem to make life complicated.
Heshima says: "It's a great project to be a part of and I get to dance so this is going to be fun."
Heshima has previously appeared in 'The Bill' and 'Spooks'.

Name: Naz
Played by: Emaa Hussen
Character info: Naz feels like she's torn between two worlds. Her friends know her as a fun-loving party girl, while at home, she's the apple of her father's eye. It's only when she meets Sol that the two worlds collide with terrible consequences…
Emaa says: "This is the first thing I've done professionally so it's a really exciting place to start my career. I'm from East London and a big fan of EastEnders, which is one of the reasons I wanted to do the show."
EastEnders: E20 is Emaa's first professional acting project.

Name: Stephanie 'Stevie' Dickinson
Played by: Amanda Fairbank-Hynes
Character info: The daughter of rich parents, Stevie is completely clueless when it comes to real life. However, she's now been abandoned by her mum and dad for travelling. When Ash turns up, it seems like it's the answer to her prayers - the only problem is the people he's brought with him.
Amanda says: "It all happened so quickly but I'm really excited to be working on EastEnders. It's an amazing group of people and they are great to work with."
Amanda has previously appeared in the Oscar-nominated film 'An Education'.

EastEnders: E20 will launch on September 7, with new episodes being released online every Tuesday and Thursday for five weeks.

EastEnders: E20 returns for its second series next month and fans can now get to know some of the new characters better as they've signed up for Twitter.

Out of the main group of new arrivals, Naz and Stevie are the ones currently sharing their thoughts online - their accounts are @badgal_naz and @Stevie4Olly respectively.

So far, Naz has been complaining about the lack of proper clothes shops in Walford, while Stevie's tweets generally seem more upbeat as she's been repeatedly voicing her devotion to boyfriend Olly - who has his own account @OllyManHall.

Finally, Fatboy - who's back for series two of E20 - is also tweeting on the account @manlikefatboy.

EastEnders fans can follow each of the characters directly on Twitter to keep track of their activities, or alternatively it's also possible to read the updates on the official E20 website.

The new ten-part series of EastEnders: E20 begins on September 7.

Rapper Kanye West made an unknown man from Coventry a reluctant star when he chose him as the only person he was going to follow on Twitter - and Fatboy is jealous.

The second series of E20 doesn't air until September 7, but Fatboy and Naz and new characters Stevie, played by Amanda Fairbank-Hynes, and her boyfriend Olly, played by Joshua McGuire, have all recently joined Twitter to give viewers a sneak preview of what is to come.

Fatboy, whose Twitter name is @manlikefatboy, tweeted: "@kanyewest Bruv show me some love. Follow da Fatboy."

The new characters have been tweeting updates about their life, revealing what they are like and hinting what could be in store for them when the series airs on www.bbc.co.uk/eastenders/e20 and BBC Three.

Stevie is @Stevie4Olly and Olly is @OllyManHall.

Stevie's tweets reveal she's been travelling in Thailand and would love to go back there, but spends most of her time waiting hand and food on her rave and bike loving boyfriend.

She tweeted: "Putting some flowers outside to brighten up the flat and everyone else's day!", but then later added: "Somebody ripped up all my flowers and broke my plant pots. What kind of world are we living in. It's awful. What kind of place is this?"

Meanwhile, Olly's words of wisdom include: "Love having Stevie around - clean clothes, made bed and food on the table! What a woman's for!"

And Naz, who is @badgal_naz, tweeted: "School holidays are soo boring. Especially when you work in a kebab shop. Ain't never gonna get the stink of lamb kofta out my hair.

Last year, Emer Kenny was brought into the EastEnders fold as a writer on the BBC soap's online spinoff E20. Soon afterwards, her involvement in the internet drama increased when she landed the role of outspoken Zsa Zsa Carter, who later made the transition over to the main show. This year, Emer returned to E20's 13-strong writing team for the second series and also filmed a fresh batch of E20 scenes alongside the show's four newcomers. Emer recently chatted to DS about her work on E20 and what to expect from the new series.

Given how involved you were in the first series of E20, were you proud when you heard that it had been recommissioned?
"Yeah, I was over the moon really! But I was most proud when we got such great viewing figures because it was more than anyone could have expected from it. For that to happen to something that I was so closely involved with, I was just overjoyed. And then having another series after that was just the icing on the cake - it was like, 'Oh my God, another chance!' So it was amazing."

You decided to return to the writing team along with your 12 colleagues from the first series - was that quite an easy decision to make?
"Yes, it was just automatic. Of course I wanted to do it - I loved doing it in the first series because it was an amazing learning experience for me, and I wanted to try out what I'd learned from the first series and see how far I'd come after watching it go into production and seeing my writing come to screen. I couldn't wait to do it again."

How does the second series compare to the first?
"I think in some ways it's more real, because in the first series, some of our characters like Fatboy and Zsa Zsa were quite extreme, and a lot of those characters had not necessarily come from the teenagers who were writing it, but from ideas from people at EastEnders. But this series has come entirely from the writers, so all the characters feel really genuine. The most extreme character would be Stevie, but I think that due to the way that Amanda's played her, she feels very real as well."

You wrote the first episode of the new series, which meant introducing the new characters and setting up the storylines. Was that quite a big responsibility?
"Yes, but I tried not to think about it too much! It is a bit scary, so I didn't want to think about people not liking the first episode and not wanting to watch the rest! And there are some really brilliant writers who do the following episodes, so I didn't want to let them down by not setting it up well! I think first episodes are notoriously tough anyway, but I had a lot of help and support. And it was also quite nice in a way, because I didn't have to follow on from anyone else or check with continuity - it was a fresh slate and I could write whatever I wanted. That was really nice."

Were you also very much involved in the series as a whole?
"Yeah, a couple of us did some polishing work over the series so I got to know all of the episodes. We just went through and made sure everything ran smoothly. Because of that, I got to know a lot of the other writing and other storylines, so I was involved from start to finish."

What can we expect from the first episode?
"The first episode is quite dramatic! I wanted to start it off with a real bang. So there's a couple of fights and there's a lot of energy in it, a little bit of romance right at the beginning - and they're all hints of what's to come, really. I also wanted to give each of the characters a really strong entrance, so hopefully that's worked."

Out of the four new characters, did you have a favourite to write for?
"Yeah, I loved writing for Naz! She's just really funny, and she was a challenge to write because she's not a clown in the way that Fatboy is - she's the clever one and she has similarities with Zsa Zsa. Although Zsa Zsa can be a bit of a bitch really, very mean and cold - Naz is cooler than that, she's really feisty and she knows what she's doing, and right in the first episode she outwits Fatboy, Leon and Zsa Zsa straight away! That was really cool so I loved writing and filming that. She's really sassy and I like her."

Eastenders: E20 Cast
What do you think of the new cast?
"They're brilliant, really brilliant. They really bring it to life and they look exactly like I imagined the characters! It's amazing to see them in their costumes and make-up, especially Naz - she just looks perfect. The best part is that they bring elements that I didn't even see before. Like I said, Amanda makes Stevie feel very real, and I'd been worried that Stevie was a bit away with the fairies and wasn't quite someone that people knew. I think it's important for people to think, 'Oh, I know that character', or, 'I can imagine knowing that character'. I think that Amanda really brought that to Stevie."

Do you think that any of the new characters are strong enough to move over to the main show?
"I don't know, it's a difficult question. I think they're all brilliant actors and they play their characters brilliantly, but I don't know. I hope they do - it'd be nice if they did and I think they'd enjoy it. It's nice to get involved in the Square with all those amazing actors and I loved it. I hope they get the chance that I did. But I'm not the person to say!"

Do you think that E20 could run for more series beyond this one?
"I hope so! I definitely think it can go for another couple, especially if the characters start crossing in again. I think it's got such a strong viewership - last time we got 4.4 million, coming up to 5 million viewers. That's good for any show but particularly for this kind of show. So I think if there's an audience for it, why shouldn't it run? And it's a really great outlet for young writers and young actors to get into the industry and have people mentoring them. It helped me an amazing amount with my writing and my acting, and I really hope that more young people get that chance."

EastEnders E20
What would you say were the particular strengths of E20's first series?
"I think it was fresh and I think that a character like Fatboy would never have been brought into EastEnders had young people not written him. Even Zsa Zsa - I don't think she would have been quite the same. Having that platform meant that you get a burst of something that is maybe truer to a youth audience. I don't know if we got it 100% right in the first series. I know that Bryan [Kirkwood] has said that he thinks the E20 characters' transition into EastEnders wasn't as successful as it could have been. There's definitely room for improvement and space to build upon that. But a strength of the first series was bringing something new to mainstream TV and bringing all these new writers into the BBC. I also thought that the episodes were funny and I found Fatboy hilarious to write. It had heart, I hope."

Would you like to continue writing for E20 in the future?
"That's a difficult one, because I think the purpose of E20 is to train young writers, so now I've had two series being trained by people, I think it's probably my chance to move on and hopefully do something else, and use the skills that I've learned in another format. It then gives the space to some new talent - younger talent, who can bring that freshness and create something even better. If it was to continue, I'd like younger people to come in and take those spots."

Would you like to write for the main show one day?
"That would be amazing. It's such a prestigious thing to write for and I think the writing can be so brilliant. I'd love to write for the main show but I don't know if I'm old enough yet, because I'd find it hard to write for some of the characters, like Dot. I obviously know people like that, but I don't have the experience to talk how they talk and know about the kinds of things that they're interested in. I think I'd prefer to write something more youth-orientated, or something to do with people in their 20s or even 30s. EastEnders spans so many generations that I think I'd find it difficult, but I'd love to have a go. But I've never tried writing an episode of EastEnders, even as an exercise."

And finally, do you see your future in acting or writing, or both?
"Definitely both! They're equal to me!"

EastEnders: E20 launches online on Tuesday, September 7.

A chat with Stevie from 'EastEnders: E20'

As the launch of the second series of EastEnders: E20 draws closer, DS will be publishing interviews with each of the four new cast members in the coming days. First up is Amanda Fairbank-Hynes, who plays quirky university student Stephanie 'Stevie' Dickinson. After boyfriend trouble leaves Stevie heartbroken and struggling to pay the rent, she's thrilled when streetdancer Asher arrives on her doorstep looking for a room. But how will she feel when she meets the people he's brought with him? Amanda recently had a quick chat with us and revealed more.

How would you describe the character of Stevie?
"I saw Stevie as creative, empathetic and a complete daydreamer. She often lacks common sense; for example, when Sol asks her for an Oyster at Walford East tube, she replies that she's allergic to shellfish! But she can also surprise people with bursts of assertiveness and intelligence. Stevie sees the good in everyone, and doesn't understand why people can be cruel to her if all she wants to do is love and look after them."

It sounds like Stevie could be the odd one out in the group - does she get along with Asher, Solomon and Naz?
"Stevie's the type of person who thinks a stranger is a friend she hasn't met yet, so she forms really quick attachments to Asher and Sol, and an especially close bond to Naz. Her quirkiness and forward nature initially scares them quite a bit, but they soon warm to her when they realise she's lovely as well as eccentric!"

What kind of a journey does Stevie go on over the course of the series?
"Stevie starts the series feeling alone and lost, as well as being totally naïve, which tends to be an invitation for people to take advantage of her kind nature. Sol, Naz and Asher inform her about the real world and help her harden up just enough to survive in Albert Square! She also starts to see the others as the family she's always wanted."

Roxanne McKee plays the new partner of Stevie's ex-boyfriend on the show. Did you enjoy working with her?
"I really enjoyed working with Roxanne. She's really funny as well as being a really talented actress, and we were told off a couple of times for laughing a bit too much on set!"

Did you receive any advice or guidance from Roxanne, given that she has a lot of soap experience thanks to Hollyoaks?
"I did have questions for Roxanne about what it was like working on a soap, as I hadn't had experience of doing so before E20, and she was always really generous in answering questions and recalling her own experiences."

How does E20 compare to projects that you've worked on in the past?
"I've worked as an actor since I was 18, but E20 was a completely new experience to me. It's shot in an incredibly short amount of time, which requires a lot of stamina from everyone on set and loads of scenes for the actors to learn every night - usually when we were shattered after a day's filming!"

Did you enjoy working with the other three main cast members?
"I found Heshima, Emaa and Tosin so much fun to work with, and we all bonded really fast. It was also amazing to see that even though it was Emaa and Tosin's first acting job, they immediately took everything in their stride, and seemed far less nervous than everyone else on the first day!"

Now that filming on E20 is over, what's next for you?
"I'm working on a film called One Day next, which is an adaptation of one of my favourite books, so I'm really excited about that! At some point, I'd really like to do something on stage as I haven't done any theatre since being at drama school, but I'm happy to work on any project with a great script, whether the part's big or small!"

The second series of EastEnders: E20 launches on Tuesday, September 7. Episodes will become available for viewing on the show's official site every Tuesday and Thursday at 8pm, while 30-minute omnibus editions will be screened on BBC Three on Monday nights.

we chat with Heshima Thompson, who plays Asher Levi - a former bad boy who's on the path to redemption following a stint in jail. After viewers meet Asher for the first time, it soon becomes clear that he's loyally protective of his younger brother Solomon - but is also keen to strive further and make something of his life. Asher's talents as a street dancer also make him key to the dance element that features in the new series. Our Q&A with Heshima follows below...

How would you describe Asher?
"I'd say he's a very confident individual! He's had run-ins with the law, but I think that he's on a path now where he's trying to come away from that - especially as he does have a brother to look after."

Why has Asher been in jail?
"I think it's pretty much been a case of trying to look after his brother. It's one of those situations where there isn't really much other family around, and Asher has been playing the role of a parent as well as a brother. As a result, he's taken chances and gone for opportunities that were available, whether they were legal or not…"

How has being in jail affected Asher's relationship with his family?
"In terms of his mother, she does tend to bring it up sometimes and make reference to the past, so it's difficult for him to forget it. But with his brother, it doesn't have so much of an effect - it definitely doesn't mean that Solomon respects him any less, but it does mean that he isn't necessarily the best role model."

How does Asher develop over the course of the series?
"Well, Asher is a street dancer for starters, and as I'm also a dancer, it was good for me to be able to fuse my love of dance and acting together. What happens is that Asher sees street dance as his way out, so I think that's his main journey - seeing a possible way out from his current situation through dance. It's a journey of trying to escape and using dance to do that."

How do you think the second series of E20 compares to the first?
"I think this series is a lot faster-paced. Also, because we've got dancing in it, that's a completely different element, and there's never really been dancing in Albert Square before. So we've brought that to it this time."

Did you have much advice or support from the regular EastEnders cast?
"Everyone was really helpful. There's a lot of information and advice that you need when you join the show, so members of the cast were there for that. For example, I had a good chat with Ricky Norwood, who plays Fatboy. Emer Kenny was also really helpful - because she's a writer on the series, she could give us a lot of the backstories of the characters. There were some things about the characters that we didn't know at first, so it was great to learn more from her."

Would you say that E20 is just for younger fans of EastEnders, or is it for older ones too?
"I'd say it's not just for the younger audience, older people can enjoy it too, and there's so much going on in this series. Obviously we've got the dancing, and there's also some great youthful and cross-genre music that you don't usually hear in shows, so that really adds a different viewing experience and a great dynamic to the show."

Street dance acts Flawless and Avant Garde make guest appearances in the series - what was it like working with them?
"It was fantastic. As my character is a street dancer and Solomon dances very well as well, myself and Tosin both had to go for a dance audition, so we met the lead from Avant Garde then and he was part of that process. We also had some dance rehearsals with them. Then, for the actual show, we were all filming in Albert Square together and it was a bit crazy but very enjoyable! It was brilliant."

How did your dancing skills compare to those of the two groups?
"Well, I am a dancer and I'm confident with what I do, but Flawless and Avant Garde are among the best in the business and, when it comes to dancing, they live and breathe it! So that was the main difference between us."

EastEnders is often known for its big shocks and cliffhangers - can we expect the same from E20?
"Yes, there's a lot of 'duff duffs'! I'm so excited that I've finally had a 'duff duff'!"

What would you say the main themes and issues of this series are?
"I'd say the series focuses on families, friendships and relationships, as well as belief and faith. It's dealing with all of those everyday issues that people can relate to."

What would you like viewers to take from the new series of E20?
"I'd actually like the viewers to go away thinking that they'd like to watch it over and over again. I think that because we're providing the dance element as well as the drama, as well as some great music, I'd like the viewers to feel like they want to see it more than once. I also hope that the viewers feel like the show is reflective of what goes on in everyday life, as it is supposed to be authentic. There's even a lot of slang in E20 and that makes it more realistic."

What's next for you?
"I actually have an exciting music project coming up. So I'll be doing that as well as my acting. I'd love to be able to somehow merge my singing, acting, dancing and writing - that would be my dream project!"

A chat with Solomon from 'EastEnders: E20'

Eastenders E20: Solomon Levi played by Tosin Cole

In our latest EastEnders: E20 cast member interview, Tosin Cole tells all about playing Solomon Levi, the shy younger brother of street dancer Asher. After being looked after by his older sibling for most of his life, E20 sees Solomon searching for an identity of his own. Will his budding relationship with new flatmate Naz give him a chance of happiness? Our chat with Tosin follows below…

How would you describe the character of Solomon?
"I would say that Solomon is quite shy and very thoughtful. He relies on his brother a lot as he's not very independent. He's very soft and he gets hurt quite easily."

The brotherly relationship between Solomon and Asher sounds like it's going to be a big part of the show - can you tell us a bit more about that?
"Well, as it's a brotherly relationship they do go through some ups and downs! But Solomon completely looks up to Asher - he needs Asher around him and Asher is always looking out for him, trying to provide for him and making sure that he's alright."

Do things change between them as the series continues?
"Yes, as it progresses, there are stages where Solomon needs to be independent and Asher is doing his own thing. Solomon needs to get that independence and not rely on Asher as much as he has done. We also see how the two brothers fall out and how they come back together."

There's a bit of a romance between Solomon and Naz in the series - what is it that attracts Solomon to her?
"I think Solomon is really attracted to Naz because she's so different. He hasn't seen a girl like her - she's so out there, so confident and so sassy. It's interesting because Solomon is actually the complete opposite to that - so she likes the fact that she hasn't met a boy like him before."

What kind of a journey does Solomon go on over the course of the series?
"You definitely see him develop and he does go through some serious changes. You see changes in the way he reacts to people around him and different situations. I won't say exactly how that happens, but he does become more confident and he knows how to deal with things better."

You've done theatre work in the past, including working on a modern adaptation of Julius Caesar. How did working on E20 compare?
"It was similar in some ways, but with theatre, the main difference is that you have to give a lot more in terms of performance. When you're in front of the camera, you have to tone it down a lot more. But as long as you know what you're doing in terms of acting, it comes naturally and it's not too much of a change."

Did you watch the first series of E20?
"I watched the whole series a couple of weeks before going to the audition so that I was fully prepared for it. But I watch EastEnders quite a lot - I'm a big fan of the show, and especially of the Mitchells!"

Was there anyone in particular at EastEnders who was there to give advice or support to you during filming?
"The cast were really supportive, but Deborath Sathe who produced the show was also really amazing, and so was the director Michael Keillor. I could name the whole team because everyone just made us feel really welcome and comfortable."

Given how successful the first series of E20 was, did you feel any pressure working on the second run?
"Well, because of the storylines and everything involved, I think the new series will do well. It has a real rawness to it because of the street vibe. We're also bringing something new to Albert Square. Obviously EastEnders is a big brand, but when you can bring something new to that, I think it can be very likeable. Series one had brilliant viewing figures and we all hope series two will continue to have a fantastic following and be just as successful."

What's next for you?
"I do have another project coming up as I'll soon be appearing in another BBC online drama, The Cut. In the future, I'd love to do a film or a really good sitcom - I'd love to do some comedy stuff. Hopefully that's what my future will hold!"

The second series of EastEnders: E20 launches on Tuesday, September 7 at 8pm, with the second episode following on Wednesday, September 8 at the same time. After that, new episodes will become available for viewing on the show's official site every Tuesday and Thursday at 8pm, while 30-minute omnibus editions will be screened on BBC Three on Monday nights.

A chat with Naz from EastEnders: E20

Over the past week, we've published chats with three of the four new main EastEnders: E20 cast members, and today it's the turn of Emaa Hussen to complete the set. Emaa plays the role of feisty Naz Mehmet, who's always been known as a daddy's girl at home, but comes to life as a fun-loving party fanatic when she's out with her friends. When family trouble leads to her sharing a flat with Stevie, Asher and Solomon as she searches for an escape, Naz is determined to focus on having a good time. But how long will it be before her home life catches up with her? Our Q&A with Emaa follows below…

How would you describe the character of Naz?
"Naz is a family girl, but she's also at a point in her life where she just wants to have fun. She's going through some bad times at home as there's certain things that she doesn't want to do…"

Naz is a bit of a party girl as well, isn't she?
"Yes - she's confident and she knows that she can get whatever she wants! So she goes out and tries to have fun. Because of a situation that she's in, she thinks it could be the last time that she can have fun, so she's trying to make the most of it. You'll definitely see that as the series develops."

Naz has a bit of a romance with Solomon - what is it that attracts her to him?
"Solomon is quite a shy person so she likes the fact that she can take him under her wing and show him different things. It's a case of opposites attracting - they really like the differences between them."

How does the relationship between Naz and Solomon develop over the course of the series?
"I'm not allowed to say too much! All I can say is that they both met at the right place at the right time. You'll have to wait and see how they meet and what happens!"

Naz seems to be living in two worlds, as she's both a party girl and a daddy's girl. Which does she feel most comfortable with?
"I think she feels most comfortable in her party girl persona! She is a home girl and she does love her family, but her family just don't seem to be understanding what she wants. I think she would stick to being a home girl and a good girl if her family just understood what she wanted, but as they don't, she's going off and having the party girl lifestyle."

What kind of a journey does Naz go on over the course of the series?
"I'd say that, for Naz, her development over the course of the series is less of a journey and more of an adventure! It's what she does best - she's confident so she doesn't need to change too much, and nobody could ever tell her to change because she would not have that! We always see her being herself around the people that she cares about."

Is Naz involved in any big cliffhangers?
"Yes, I think I had the most 'duff duffs' because I had about three or four! They were actually some of the most difficult moments to film as well, because you have to hold your face for about 20 seconds! (Laughs) It was really difficult!"

As this is your first professional acting project, what was it like to start your career on EastEnders?
"It was brilliant. It's a really good thing to start on - in fact, the best thing to start on because I can't think of anything better to start my career. It's been an amazing experience and I've learned so much. I'm definitely going to make sure that I take things further after this."

Did you watch the first series of E20?
"Yes, I did! One of the great things about E20 is that you can watch it at any time, so when I found out I'd be going for the audition, I did watch it then. But I'm a big fan of EastEnders - I watch it every day without fail, apart from Wednesdays and Saturdays as it's not on! (Laughs) I think the first series of E20 was really good, and the second series has longer episodes, so I think that's even better."

Did you receive any advice from the regular EastEnders cast?
"Everyone has been great - the whole cast have been really good with us. Members of the cast gave us advice and made sure that we fitted in and felt comfortable."

What kind of projects are you hoping to do next?
"As this is my first professional project, I'm currently concentrating on seeing what my future might hold. E20 has been a great thing for me to start out on, and I think that it could open so many other doors. I'm actually keen to test myself and see what I can and what I can't do."

Roxanne McKee chats 'EastEnders: E20'

Former Hollyoaks star Roxanne McKee makes her debut in EastEnders: E20 tonight, playing the role of Pippa - the rich and sophisticated new girlfriend of Stevie's ex, Olly. When Stevie meets Pippa for the first time at a party, she's devastated at the thought of Olly moving on from her so quickly and resents Pippa's presence. Will it be all-out war between the pair, or could there be a twist in store? DS recently chatted with Roxanne to find out more.

How did the part in E20 come about?
"I auditioned for the part when I heard about it, so it was just a regular audition process. I was really pleased and excited to get the role!"

How would you describe the character of Pippa?
"She's a rich girl as she comes from a wealthy family, and she's always out for a good time! The viewers will also see that Pippa is quite a generous person, but she usually has just one thing on her mind…"

What happens to Pippa over the course of the show?
"Pippa arrives in Albert Square for a party with her boyfriend, who is Stevie's ex. But she didn't steal him from Stevie or anything like that - she didn't know that he'd had another girlfriend when they got together. She's not a trouble-causer in the show - she just gets involved in a love triangle without meaning to."

Will we see much tension between Pippa and Stevie in the show?
"You will, as Stevie hates her at first!"

Stevie (pictured left) makes a surprise discovery about Pippa in one episode - what is Pippa's secret?
"I can't really say too much! But let's just say that her love life is very varied…"

The four main E20 characters seem to go on a journey throughout the series - is it the same for Pippa?
"Pippa doesn't really go on much of a journey throughout the show, but that's because she already has a strong sense of self. Instead, Pippa's main role is to drive Stevie's story forward. I think she helps Stevie in her quest for her own identity."

Did you have much of a chance to catch up with your old Hollyoaks boss Bryan Kirkwood during your time at Elstree?
"Yes, it was lovely to catch up with him. The first thing he said was 'Your hair's grown'. You've got to love a man who notices your hair! EastEnders are very lucky to have him. He's a smart producer. I'm sure he'll have lots of exciting things planned for the residents of Albert Square, as he's brilliant at his job."

Did you enjoy your experience on E20?
"It was lots of fun and the people I worked with were great. I wish all of them luck."

What's next for you?
"I'll be appearing in Lip Service, a drama for the BBC which comes out at the beginning of October. I play an Irish TV presenter in the show. I also had fun being made to look quite gruesome for the horror film F, which is also out now. And I'm currently filming for HBO on their new drama for 2011, Game of Thrones."

The next episode of EastEnders: E20 will be uploaded tonight at 8pm on the official BBC website. Subsequent instalments will go live on Tuesdays and Thursdays each week

E20 is now back for its second series, featuring a new cast of characters, fresh storylines and the introduction of a streetdance theme. As announced back in July, a forthcoming episode of the show will feature a guest appearance from dance act Flawless - best known as finalists from Britain's Got Talent - while group member Marlon Wallen plays a part in a number of other episodes. Marlon has been sharing his thoughts about Flawless's involvement in the show..
How did you become involved in the new series of E20?
"We were contacted by the show's producer, Deborah Sathe, who is a good friend of mine - we worked together a few years ago on other projects."

Are you and the rest of the troupe big fans of EastEnders, and was it exciting to play a part in the show?
"We are definitely fans of EastEnders, and it was very exciting to be involved in playing a role as Flawless. I remember all of us sitting in the Square saying, 'Oh my goodness, we are actually here!' Everyone was so friendly and we took loads of pictures."

What do you think the dance element brings to the new series of E20?
"I think because dance is the new craze, it really works and brings a new feel to the storyline, as you have two brothers - Asher and Sol - who are very strong characters. Watching EastEnders, you wouldn't normally see dance used within the show, and for that reason, with such a high-profile programme and large viewing figures, it's exciting because EastEnders: E20 is raising awareness of dance. The show has loads of surprises and dance is one of them."

Heshima, who plays Asher, has a particular interest in dance - did you enjoy working with him and the rest of the cast?
"Yes we all did, Heshima is an amazing individual and very good to work with - definitely one to look out for."

Avant Garde, another dance troupe, are also appearing in the series. Was it good to work alongside them on the show?
"Avant Garde and Flawless are part of the same world, and it’s always good to work with people with passion!"

This isn't the first time that Flawless have taken on an acting project as you also appeared in the film StreetDance 3D. How did working on E20 compare?
"It was a different experience this time around, because we were more ourselves for E20, and for StreetDance 3D we played a dance troupe called The Surge. But in both cases, it was an amazing experience and we'd love to continue doing more film and television."

Do you think that projects like E20 and StreetDance 3D are a good way to inspire others to take up dancing, and is that something that Flawless aspire to do?
"They definitely are, and it's what Flawless is all about - not only for dance, but most importantly to encourage people to chase their dreams whatever they may be."

What's next for Flawless?
"Well, we just got back from the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, which was amazing - we sold out all 31 shows. The show is called 'Chase the Dream', which is touring the UK from September to December this year, and loads more other exciting things will be happening. So for more information stay tuned to our website, it's called 'Official Flawless'."

Ricky Norwood has said that he is upset with the decision to write out E20 characters Leon and Zsa-Zsa.

Norwood, who plays Fatboy, will not be joined by Sam Attwater and Emer Kenny for the second series of the EastEnders spinoff.

He told PA: "We've been doing a lot of the leaving scenes for Leon and Zsa Zsa - it's been pretty sad because we've started the journey together. I'm there, luckily they are keeping me and they see some future in Fatboy."

The actor also appears in EastEnders on a semi-regular basis, but admitted that he is unsure about his future on the soap.

"I haven't got a clue how long I'll be there. I'm there until Christmas at the minute and hopefully a bit longer," he said.

EastEnders: E20 star Amanda Fairbank-Hynes has revealed that there are "exciting" moments in store as the second series draws to a close.

The final two episodes of the current run will go live on the show's official site this week, featuring a dance-off and dramatic scenes as party girl Naz (Emaa Hussen) goes on the run.

Speaking to Last Broadcast, Fairbank-Hynes commented: "The final episode is definitely the most exciting, so don't miss it! There's loads of suspense and drama, and even an appearance from the brilliant dance group Flawless.

"I think there is a certain amount of closure to the group's stories, so hopefully the viewers will be happy with how the series ends."

The actress - who plays Stevie Dickinson on the online spinoff - added that she is pleased over the recent announcement that E20 has been recommissioned for a third series.

She said: "I think it's great news! It's such a wonderful platform for young writers. I'm not sure if Stevie will make an appearance, but I know the writers will definitely come up with relevant, exciting characters and stories."

EastEnders: E20 continues tomorrow at 8pm on the show's official site. The final episode follows on Thursday at the same time.

Further Interview with Heshima Thompson

As Series 2 of E20 draws to a close, how would say Asher has changed over the series?

“I would say Asher goes through a cycle, starting quite optimistic about his move to Walford, then due to the pressure of looking after his brother getting a lot darker, then he spends the rest of his time trying to redeem his actions.”

What sort of reaction to the character have you had from viewers? Have you been getting recognised in public much?

“I have had it all, hahaha, screaming girls to proud parents, I get recognised A LOT!!! People say things like "I'm an amazing dancer," "how could I do that with Sol's girl?" and people say "naughty naughty" quite a lot, haha.”

Can you give us any hints about the final episode of the series?

“The last episode deffo starts fast pace and there is closure to some storylines, but you'll just have to watch!”

What was your favourite scene to film? And what’s your funniest memory of filming the show?

“I really enjoyed filming the scene with Zainab (Nina Wadia), where I pretended to be the dance teacher. That was funny. My funniest memory filming the show has to be Emaa being new on set and innocently shouting out director's orders (like rolling, turning...) and Tosin, Amanda and I laughing our heads off whist bringing her up to speed.”

Have you been watching the show yourself?

“Yes, my sister, brothers, nephews and cousins watch it together on TV every week - great times!”

Have you seen the other E20 cast members much since you finished filming?

“Yeah, we just met up this week to go to Live At The Apollo and we’re meeting up next week to do an acting workshop, love them guys.”

Last year’s E20 cast crossed over into the main show earlier this year - will you or any of the Series 2 cast be appearing in EastEnders anytime soon? If not, is this something you’d be up for?

“Not sure yet, still early days, but I get a lot of fans online and offline wanting our characters in the main soap. I think it would be fun to inject some more youth into the show.”

Which regular EastEnders characters can you imagine Asher hanging out with?

“I think Zainab's taken a liking to Asher and would take him under her wing, getting him a job at the local community centre teaching dance.”

How do you feel about this week’s news that E20 has been recommissioned for a third series? Do you think we’ll see Asher appear again in Series 3?

“I'm so happy that E20's been re-commissioned again, I think the producer Deborah Sathe is doing a great thing and creating fantastic opportunities for the youth and young talent across different fields in the entertainment industry. I think it's important it does carry on.”
