Home and Away star Rebecca Breeds has admitted that she is feeling "really encouraged" following her recent Logie nod.

The 21-year-old, who plays Summer Bay's Ruby Buckton, is in the running for this year's 'Most Popular Actress' prize alongside co-stars Esther Anderson (Charlie Buckton) and Jessica Tovey (Belle Taylor).

Speaking to TV Week about the recognition, Breeds commented: "I'm stoked. I'm really surprised about it and really encouraged, because I haven't known how people feel about me and my character.

"To know that people like Ruby makes me think I'm doing a good job."

Packed To The Rafters stars Rebecca Gibney and Jessica Marais have also been nominated for the gong.

The Logie Awards will be held in Melbourne on May 2.

Home and Away star Ray Meagher has insisted that he does not expect to win this year's Gold Logie award.

The actor, who plays Summer Bay stalwart Alf Stewart, has been nominated for the prestigious prize alongside co-star Esther Anderson (Charlie Buckton), Packed To The Rafters actress Rebecca Gibney and five other faces from Australian television.

Meagher has been backed for victory by a number of his show colleagues in recent weeks, including Luke Jacobz (Angelo Rosetta) and Ada Nicodemou (Leah Patterson-Baker).

However, speaking to the Herald Sun, he explained: "I have never seriously considered winning it. My theory is that the five comics will fight it out to see who can tell the funniest joke, and cancel one another out.

"Esther Anderson and I will sort of split the Home and Away vote, and Rebecca Gibney will waltz down the middle and pick it up again."

The Logie Awards will be held in Melbourne on May 2.

Neighbours actress Margot Robbie has spoken out in support of co-star Ashleigh Brewer ahead of Sunday night's Logie Awards.

Brewer has been nominated for this year's 'Most Popular New Female Talent' prize for her role as Erinsborough's Kate Ramsay.

Robbie, who plays quirky Donna Freedman, told TV Week: "I think Ashleigh should win the Logie because she's very talented. She's taken to the role of Kate Ramsay so well and I really hope that's recognised this year.

"Ash is the kind of girl who always sticks up for you and helps you get through those very early mornings on set. She's great at rehearsing lines with, too. She just laughs at absolutely everything, even if what you said wasn't really that funny. It's great for the ego!"

Brewer is nominated in the category alongside former Home and Away actress Kate Bell, The 7pm Project host Carrie Bickmore, ex-All Saints star Mirrah Foulkes and Rescue: Special Ops cast member Katherine Hicks.

Catherine Deveny has been sacked after attacking various stars on Twitter during the Logie Awards.

The Australian comedian, who wrote for Melbourne newspaper The Age, sparked the most outrage when she suggested that the late Steve Irwin's 11-year-old daughter Bindi should "get laid".

Deveny also wrote that she hoped TV star Rove McManus's new wife Tasma Walton "didn't die too", referring to his first wife Belinda Emmett losing her battle with cancer in 2006.

Her former boss, editor Paul Ramadge, said in a statement: "We are appreciative of the columns Catherine has written for The Age over several years but the views she has expressed recently on Twitter are not in keeping with the standards we set at The Age."

Deveny later said: "It was just passing notes in class, but suddenly these notes are being projected into the sky and taken out of context.

"[The Bindi Irwin comment] was a ludicrous remark that was as ridiculous as me saying I hope the dog that Molly Meldrum brought with him got drunk." She also added that she felt no need to apologise because humour is "deeply subjective".

Comedian Wil Anderson has also been criticised for tweeting about stars such as John Mayer and Matt Preston during the awards show.

Todd Lasance has admitted that he was surprised to be nominated for a Logie Award this year.

The former Home and Away star was in the running for the 'Most Popular Actor' prize at the recent ceremony, following a turbulent few months which saw him arrested for possessing cocaine and ultimately plead guilty to the charge.

Speaking to TV Week about his Logie nod, Lasance confessed: "I really didn't expect it this year, after everything."

The 25-year-old added that winning last year's prize could have also led to him being absent from this year's shortlist, commenting: "This year was a total surprise because I thought people would think, 'Oh well, he won it last year' and might not get behind me again."

Although Packed To The Rafters star Hugh Sheridan eventually won the gong, Lasance said that fans are continuing to support him as he moves on from his role as Summer Bay's Aden Jefferies.

He explained: "From day one, it's been fantastic. The audience response to Aden was incredible, and to have that continued support has been awesome."
