Showing he has relinquished little control of all aspects of the "Transformers" franchise, director and producer Michael Bay released a statement on Monday providing new details on the third installment of the Robots vs. Robots series.

Bay announced that Oscar winner Frances McDormand and John Malkovich will join the cast of "Transformers 3." It appears McDormand will have an integral role in the film as the National Intelligence Director. Malkvoich will play franchise lead Shia LaBeouf's first boss (whether he's already out of college is unclear). Bay also disclosed that popular character actor Ken Jeong is on board and just in case you didn't know he who was, Bay describes him as, "the super funny actor stuck in the trunk from 'Hangover' and the Doctor from 'Knocked Up.'"

The populist filmmaker also revealed that the newest Autobot will be based on a Ferrari 458 Italia.

The Paramount Pictures production will begin pre-shoots in a month in multiple locales including Los Angeles, Chicago, Washington, D.C., Florida, Texas, Moscow and China. "Transformers 3" was written by Ehren Kruger and is scheduled for release on July 1, 2011.

Sources close to the production of Transformers 3 confirm to EW that Megan Fox’s option for the film has not been renewed. Contrary to earlier reports, however, the decision is not a personal vendetta. The source tells EW that it was logical, considering the direction of the script, which sees leading man Shia LaBeouf developing a new love interest.

'Transformers 3' extra Gabriela Cedillo remains in critical condition following an accident during the movie's last day of filming.

The 24-year-old bank teller from Chicago was seriously injured while filming a scene for the Shia LaBeouf film in Indiana last week. She was sitting in her car, when, according to witnesses, a cable snapped and crashed through her windshield, severely injuring her head.

Cedillo is in a medically induced coma following brain surgery.

She is said to have been paid an additional £16 to use her own car for the shoot.

"The vehicle was being towed by another vehicle," fellow extra Blaine Baker told a local ABC station. "The cable between the two vehicles broke. It whipped around and sliced through the woman's car and sliced through her skull, apparently."

Cedillo’s neighbour, Nate Smith, is quoted by My Fox Chicago as saying, “It was a blessing to know she was going to be a part of it. But then to find out she was part of the unfortunate accident, it set you back a few steps. ... Nothing you can do but sit and pray.”

The film’s producers issued a statement that read, “Our thoughts and prayers are with Gabriela, her family and loved ones. We are looking into what caused the accident.”
