EX-EASTENDER Charlie Clements is ready to get his kit off to play a gay man in a racy play set in the Swinging Sixties.
The red-headed star - last seen plunging to his death as Bradley Branning last month - is hoping to land the edgy new part after four years in Walford.

So he has auditioned for new drama Canary, which is currently being cast and will kick off at the Liverpool Playhouse later this year. Charlie, 22, is hoping to bag the role of main character Tom or his lover Billy - who both get arrested in the first act after cops catch them in bed together.

Despite fluffing parts of the live Enders episode watched by 17million - including twitching his fingers after Bradley dies - Charlie feels ready to tread the boards.

An insider told TV Biz: "He really wants to break away from the character.

"It's been a huge and amazing part of his life. But he's ready to move on and he wants to show how versatile he is as an actor."

And Charlie isn't worried about the racier scenes.

Our insider said: "It's a really exciting new play. Everyone from Daniel Radcliffe to Anna Friel has got their kit off on stage. There is nothing to it - he's a very attractive young man!"

Charlie did very well in the live episode. I saw his fingers twitch but that was the only mistake I noticed him make.

I hope he has a very successful career after EE.

Yes, I think it's normal for bodies to twitch just after death. I didn't notice him breathing in the viewing room.

I noticed the twitching, which I believe is possible as a muscle spasm even after death and his breathing in the mortuary, which I believe by that time should not have been possible anymore, but hey, thankfully, Charlie did not actually die :D
