Bass player Tom 'T-Bone' Wolk has died in New York at the age of 58.

The musician, best known for his work with pop duo Daryl Hall and John Oates, passed away on Sunday after suffering a suspected heart attack.

Wolk's passing is believed to have occurred hours after he completed a recording session with Hall, who has recently been working on a solo album.

Paying tribute to his friend and long-time collaborator, Hall said in a statement: "It's not if I will go on, but how. T-Bone was one of the most sensitive and good human beings that I have ever known."

John Oates described Wolk as "peerless", adding: "Any instrument that he touched resonated with a sensitivity and skill level that I have never experienced while playing with any other musician.

"He possessed an encyclopaedic knowledge of styles and musical history which he referenced to support all the artists that he played with over the years."

Wolk started working with Hall & Oates in 1981 and also appeared on recordings with a variety of artists throughout his career, including Bette Midler, Billy Joel and Avril Lavigne.
