BBC television presenter Kristian Digby has been found dead at his flat in east London, police have said.

The 32-year-old presenter was best known for the BBC One property programme To Buy or Not To buy.

Mr Digby, who co-presented the show, was pronounced dead at the scene when ambulance services arrived at his flat in Richford Road, Newham, earlier.

Police sources described the circumstances surrounding his death on Monday morning as "unexplained".

His body was found at about 0745 GMT on Monday. His next of kin have been informed.

A spokesman for the Metropolitan Police said: "Police were called to reports of a body of a man in his 30s found at an address in Richford Road, E15.

"Ambulance services attended and life was pronounced extinct."

Obituary: Kristian Digby

Kristian Digby was born on June 24, 1977 into a family of property developers.

He started his career as a director, becoming the youngest ever recipient of a junior BAFTA in 1997 for his short film Words Of Deception and collecting the 'Best Student Film' prize at the 1998 Melbourne Film Festival for Last Train To Demise.

He then turned his hand to directing for TV, helming episodes of programmes including Changing Rooms, Home Front and The O-Zone.

He proceeded to launch a career in front of the camera on ITV's Nightlife, before going on to present numerous BBC daytime shows including Open House, Trading Up and Buy It, Sell It, Bank It.

However, he is probably best known for his work on BBC Choice's That Gay Show and helming nine series of property reality show To Buy Or Not To Buy since 2003.

Alongside his TV work, Digby followed in his family's footsteps by becoming an avid property developer.

He was reportedly found dead on March 1, 2010 at his home in Stratford, East London. Police are said to be treating his death as "unexplained".

BBC presenter Kristian Digby was found dead in his apartment yesterday - after a suspected solo sex game went wrong.
The To Buy Or Not To Buy host, 32, is thought to have suffocated while starving himself of oxygen for a thrill.

Police officially described his death as "unexplained" - but detectives do not think it was suicide.

A source said last night: "At this time we believe he died from auto-erotic asphyxiation."

Kristian had helped create the home in Stratford, East London, as part of BBC1 show To Build Or Not To Build in 2008.

The gay star's body was discovered shortly before 7.45am.

A Met Police spokesman said: "The man was pronounced dead at the scene, family have been informed. Officers are investigating."

A post mortem will be held today.

Toxicology tests will be carried out to check for drugs.

Erotic asphyxiation refers to intentionally cutting off oxygen to the brain for sexual arousal.

Last year Kill Bill actor David Carradine, 72, accidentally hanged himself during a sex act in his Bangkok hotel.

INXS singer Michael Hutchence, 37, may have died from auto-erotic asphyxiation in 1997 - although suicide was the official cause of death.

Last night Kristian's agent Jo Wander said: "I am devastated by the loss. He was a lovely guy and a very talented presenter."

Neighbours told how the charismatic star brought the community together.

Steve Fletcher said: "He set up a residents' association and got people together in a way no one had before.

"He planted trees by the street and tidied up. Everyone wanted to be his friend."

Kristian, who hailed from Torquay, Devon, started hosting To Buy Or Not To Buy with pal Dominic Littlewood in 2003.

He directed Fantasy Rooms, and was a presenter on Holiday, Living In The Sun and That Gay Show.

Last night the BBC said in a statement: "Kristian was a much-loved and talented presenter.

"He brought a real sense of energy and warmth to all the shows. Our thoughts are with his family."
