Emmerdale's Nathan Wylde finally unveils his dark side during next week's episodes of the ITV rural soap when he attacks Faye after misreading her comfort as a come on, before blackmailing his mother on hearing her killer confession. Nathan - played by 26-year-old Lyndon Ogbourne - has a heart-to-heart with Faye but sees her kindness as a signal to pin her on the sofa. Following a showdown with Ryan, Nathan's week goes from bad to worse when Natasha confesses to his father Mark's murder. Desperate to find Mark in the woods, Nathan frantically digs through the mud and ultimately demands all of his mother's cash in return for his silence. Here, we chat to Lyndon about his biggest Emmerdale week since he joined just over a year ago.

We're finally starting to see Nathan's bad side...
"I think what's been nice is almost lulling the audience into a false sense of security. It's been apparent what with everything that happened with Leyla and there's been a few odd occasions where you go 'This kid is really twisted - there's something wrong with him!' What comes up over the next few months is just horrific - some of the stuff that goes on - you really see a dark and evil side of Nathan. It's horrible."

He's in a bit of a state next week and misreads the signals from Faye…
"It's pretty crazy but I'm really looking forward to seeing it. They way in which it comes about is over two episodes and you see many sides of Nathan in that because he almost completely opens up and becomes a very raw version of himself. Basically there's a point at which Nathan turns on Faye because of something she said. He takes it all the wrong way and I've had a chance to watch it and it's really quite twisted and horrible to watch actually. You see Faye thinking that she's got Nathan into a lovely place and you see him sometimes as an honest young boy sat there going 'I'm really actually quite sad about all this, everything's gone wrong'. Then she does one thing that totally flips him out again and he just becomes this disgusting - almost Joker in Batman - that sort of psychotic playing with this woman's feelings and her body. It's quite horrible."

Then there's a fight with Ryan…
"In true soap style Ryan, the shining hero! This is what I love. The way it's worked over the last few weeks, which I'm quite chuffed about, is they're creating this disgusting character in Nathan and this Mr Nice Guy in Ryan - he's Prince Charming on the back of a horse riding in at every opportunity! It makes me laugh reading the scripts. They basically fancied creating this dark and evil and then this shining hero. I'm so glad to be the dark and nasty one! It's like Cain and Abel which is what I love. There's so much anger from Nathan to Ryan and Ryan no longer knows how to cope with it. It's going to be so interesting over the next few months. With this particular moment he comes in and finds me in a compromising position with his mum and it all kicks off. Even that section of the episode is really quite powerful."

How does Nathan find out about Mark's death?
"Obviously Nathan's been told in quite a strong way by Natasha that while she's away to look after Maisie and she doesn't want anyone on the estate. The estate is basically shut down - she wants him to keep it going but nobody's doing any shoots or anything. Despite what she's said, Nathan starts showing this guy round the estate and his dog starts digging daddy up! So the dog that's with this guy starts scrabbling round at the floor and at this point Natasha's come back from looking after Maisie and asks where I am, runs out into the field and sees me there, basically drop-kicks the dog, has a massive go at me and I flip out.

"Nathan goes back to house and says 'What the hell are you doing?' and she starts to break down. He pushes and pushes and thinks that maybe she just really wants to be back with him or maybe she's spoken to him - 'Don't keep this from us - tell me if he's got back in touch!' Then she just cracks and says 'Look, the reason why is because I killed him and he's dead in the garden!' Not to spoil it but there's a scene where he's basically digging up Mark with his bare hands. It's really quite twisted."

Why does Nathan resort to blackmail?
"The blackmail comes because Nathan quite hilariously tries to take the moral high ground and says 'You've done this. I'm so disgusted with you but we've got to do the right thing and admit you've done it. I don't care if you go to jail. We've got to do the right thing, we've got to bury him properly, we've got to have a proper funeral and if you go to jail it's what you deserve'. She's distraught and says 'I thought I could trust you'. He says 'How dare you put this one me' and she says 'There's no way we can tell anyone' and he says 'I'm either going to tell everyone or you give me every penny you've got'."

Why does he say that?
"I think there's many reasons. What's been made apparent in the few weeks leading up to that moment is he's terrified that he's going to miss out on all of the money. I wondered that as well and I asked a friend who's a lawyer. Apparently in this situation if everything was to come to light due to the way Faye was dropped in it because of Mark disappearing, [Ryan] would be entitled to a lot of the money. He's the eldest son. Nathan's always been worried about losing the money and I think he suddenly realised 'If I'm going to lose out here and you're not going to let me reveal it, you'll give me all the money and in some way I'll be winning because I can leave with all the money and have what I've always wanted'. The power and the financial control is something Nathan's always wished for."

He ends up leaving the village doesn't he?
"After revealing to Natasha that's the kind of person he is, Natasha turns round and says 'You're a horrible piece of work. I know I've done wrong but you're evil - there's something wrong with you!' She turns him out and there's a couple of scenes where you can see he's thinking 'I've really screwed up here'. But at the point when he starts to think 'S**t, what have I done?' she turns round and says 'The money's been transferred, now you can go.' There are a couple of times where he almost apologises and she tells him to get out. He thinks he's gone too far but there's no turning back on this. She tells him to get out of the village - she never wants to see him again.

"Nathan's forced to leave the village. Not before seeing Ryan and giving his two pennies, though! It's basically a promise that although he's going to disappear for a while not to sit on his laurels because he'll be back and he'll destroy his life. That's his leaving gambit - 'I'll be back and I'll absolutely destroy you and your mum's life because you've wrecked everything with my family'. When he does come back, I think there's going to be hell let loose…"
