Having filmed a guest stint on EastEnders earlier this year as DC Deanne Cunningham, actress Zoe Henry will be returning to where her soap career began.

Zoe will make an Emmerdale comeback later this year as locum vet Rhona Goskirk.

Rhona who?

Rhona was last seen in the village in December 2002 when Paddy hired her services during Zoe Tate's mental breakdown. Rhona hit it off with Marlon Dingle as they spent a fair bit of time together. Tricia, however, wasn't best pleased by her presence. Rhona then sloped off, never to be seen again.

She presumably returns as Marlon's love interest - as he's not really had much luck with the ladies lately, has he?

Zoe - who's married to Emmerdale's Cain Dingle actor Jeff Hordley - is best known for playing mentally unstable arsonist Casey 'K.C.' Carswell in Coronation Street.

Zoe Henry has revealed that she thinks her Emmerdale character Rhona is being "awful".

The newlywed causes turmoil by suggesting to husband Paddy that they secretly take son Leo with them to New Zealand, despite Marlon's court order preventing it.

In an interview with What's on TV, Henry said that the difficult situation has led to her erratic behaviour.

She claimed: "Rhona and Paddy have become so set on their dream, they're not thinking straight. Any common sense has left the building so Rhona's a bit armed and dangerous at the moment."

She continued: "Paddy's job package - the house and fabulous salary which will allow Rhona to stay home with Leo - is now or never. That's why Rhona and Paddy are so extreme in the way they react."

When asked whether she thought Rhona and Paddy were somehow justified in their actions, the 38-year-old was adamant: "No! I'm a mother of two and thankfully very happily married. But I have many friends who have split up and I know how ugly it can get and I would hate to have that done to me.

"It's a truly tricky situation, but I don't think she's doing the right thing. I think she's being awful."

Co-star Mark Charnock, who plays Marion, recently said that the Marlon/Paddy/Rhona feud plot-line had been one of his "best ever".

Rhona Goskirk will become increasingly addicted to painkillers over the next few weeks.

Viewers have already seen hints that Rhona (Zoe Henry) is getting hooked, but her addiction is set to escalate when she runs out of pills.

Soaplife reports that Rhona's addiction will step up a gear when she misses the launch party for the new veterinary team at Home Farm, choosing to take an urgent call-out to treat a sick animal instead.

It becomes apparent that she has only volunteered to take the call-out because she has run out of prescription painkillers and needs to go into the all-night chemist to get emergency pills to tide her over until her next doctor's appointment.

Vanessa starts to suspect that all is not right with her friend when it transpires that Rhona actually missed the call-out completely.

Whilst Paddy makes a speech introducing the new veterinary team, Rhona is busy popping her newly acquired pills from the chemist.

Emmerdale vet Rhona Goskirk hits rock bottom next week as her painkiller addiction begins to spiral out of control.

Rhona is thrown into turmoil when Dr Abbot refuses to give her any more pills, so with no other option, she resorts to the desperate measure of trying to steal drugs from the vets practice.

Unfortunately for Rhona, she is caught red-handed by her best friend and work colleague Vanessa Woodfield (Michelle Hardwick), who is deeply concerned over her behaviour. Can Vanessa find a way to help Rhona?

Here, Zoe Henry - who plays Rhona - reveals more details of her character's emotional week.

How does Rhona feel when her doctor refuses to give her more painkillers next week?
"Rhona is a bit shocked initially, as she wasn't expecting that reaction at all. However, she's also quite terrified and it spins her out of control, as she's wondering how she's going to get out of this mess. Although she wouldn't admit it, Rhona is already addicted to painkillers."

Does Rhona worry about how her condition might affect her son Leo?
"At this point, I don't think Rhona is thinking about anything but herself. She doesn't think there is a problem - she just thinks that she needs the pills to get her through the day. Rhona has become quite selfish in that sense."

What makes Rhona steal drugs from the vets?
"It's a moment of desperation and withdrawal. Rhona feels cornered and like she has no other option but to do this. She helps herself, just once, but she gets caught red-handed by Vanessa."

How does Rhona explain herself to Vanessa?
"Rhona is honest and she says that this has never happened before, which it hasn't. She also promises that it won't happen again, and she firmly believes that it won't. Rhona says in no uncertain terms that this was a one-off, explaining that she was in pain and she'd had a bad day."

Rhona and Vanessa could both get struck off for this - Rhona for her actions and Vanessa for covering them up! Does Rhona feel guilty over that?
"Rhona is very proud of the business that Paddy has built up over the years, so yes, I think there is enormous guilt - especially as it's putting Vanessa in such an awkward position. She feels unprofessional and ashamed."

Does Vanessa cover for Rhona when Paddy notices the missing Valium?
"At first, Rhona doesn't think that Vanessa is going to cover for her. Vanessa puts pressure on Rhona and threatens to tell Paddy, but in the end she comes up trumps for her friend and helps to cover for her. But I think that just makes Rhona feel more guilty!"

Does Paddy get suspicious over Rhona's behaviour?
"No, at the moment he's too hung up on hating Vanessa! Paddy actually accuses Vanessa of taking the tablets, so she covers for Rhona and says that she did. Rhona is quite ungrateful for that initially. Paddy can see that Rhona is quite snappy and grumpy so something might be wrong, but he'd never imagine that it'd be this."

How does Vanessa react when Rhona begs her for drugs later in the week?
"It's shocking for Vanessa, because she realises that her friend is in deeper than even she knows. As an old friend, I think Vanessa thinks that she has to help Rhona and do whatever she can for her."

How do the withdrawal symptoms actually affect Rhona?
"It's like a rollercoaster. When Rhona is on the drugs and she's taking something, she can pretty much focus and get away with looking like she's normal.

"However, when there is a withdrawal beginning, there's a loss of concentration, snappiness, sweating, dizziness and vomiting when it gets more extreme. There's even an inability to get up and move about. As they're flu-like symptoms, Rhona tries to pass it off as that."

Is Rhona anywhere near the stage where she'd get help?
"Well, Rhona genuinely doesn't realise how bad this is - and maybe that's what happens with an addict. There's a lot of denial that goes on. Rhona think she's in control, and when she has drugs, she is in control. It's when she doesn't have drugs that there are problems.

"Like with anyone that has an addiction, Rhona needs to reach the point where she asks for help. So far she's missed the opportunity to nip it in the bud, so now she's on a downward spiral."

Vanessa offers to help Rhona get off the drugs, but is she taking on too much?
"Yes. Vanessa says several times that she's out of her depth and doesn't know what she's doing. However, they've known each other for 15 years and Vanessa will do anything she could for someone she loves so much. That means that she's getting caught up in Rhona's problems, unfortunately for her."

What would make Rhona get a wake-up call over this?
"Something quite desperate would have to happen, as she's in complete denial. Anything happening to Leo would open her eyes a bit more, but at the moment she's only focused on her need for drugs."

Did you do any research for this storyline?
"Yes, we did. We met with a guy who was a painkiller addict and he was amazing, as he gave us a great insight into what his life was like for the 18 months that he was addicted. He explained how quickly it took hold of him, how he lost his job, marriage and his life, really. It just started off as a bad back, just like with Rhona. Within a couple of weeks he was addicted and within six months it had completely taken hold of him.

"I was really surprised by how quickly his situation escalated, and also how common this is in everyday life. Since we started this storyline and started talking about it, it feels like everyone knows somebody who has been addicted at some point or is addicted at the moment. It seems like quite a quiet epidemic, something that isn't really spoken about - I imagine because people are quite ashamed of it.

Emmerdale star Charlotte Bellamy has revealed that there is a big new storyline on the way for her character Laurel Thomas.

Life has been quieter for Laurel in recent months after an eventful 2012 saw her break up with husband Ashley (John Middleton) and settle down with Marlon Dingle (Mark Charnock).

However, speaking to Inside Soap, Bellamy explained that Rhona Goskirk's ongoing painkiller addiction will have significant consequences for Laurel.

The actress teased: "Laurel's involved in Rhona's painkiller addiction because of Marlon and baby Leo. That bleeds into a big storyline for Laurel.

"I can't reveal too much, but there are consequences from Rhona's drug taking that will cause something to happen to Laurel. It'll be exciting, and I'm looking forward to it!"

Rhona's problem looks likely to get worse over the next few weeks as she remains in denial about the extent of her addiction, despite protests from her best friend Vanessa Woodfield (Michelle Hardwick).

Rhona Goskirk's painkiller addiction spirals even further out of control on Emmerdale next week.

Needing to get more pills, Rhona agrees to let Laurel Thomas (Charlotte Bellamy) drive her from one chemist to another under the pretence that her young son Leo needs teething gel.

While Laurel is waiting in the vehicle with Leo outside one pharmacy, she suffers a frightening ordeal as she falls victim to a carjacking. Rhona feels terrible when she finds out what's happened, but will it be enough to get her off the pills?

Here, Zoe Henry - who plays Rhona - chats about her character's ever-worsening problem and where the story is heading next.

Next week, Rhona's pill purchases come back to haunt her when she receives a large credit card bill. How does she explain it to Paddy?
"Immediately Rhona comes up with a ruse of, 'Oh, it must be fraud!' She's quite panicked, because she never expected to be found out for spending money on drugs in that way. However, she's now become quite quick at making up cover stories. She's a very adept liar now, so she passes it off and promises that she'll deal with it by contacting the bank. Paddy seems to accept it straight away."

Why does Rhona rope Laurel in to help her go out and get even more pills?
"It's not even that she ropes Laurel in, it's more that Laurel forces herself on Rhona by offering to give her a lift! Rhona looks so terrible that Laurel feels sorry for her. Although Rhona says it's fine, she gets railroaded into accepting a lift from Laurel. Then obviously there aren't very good consequences at the end of it, which makes Rhona feel even worse."

So Laurel isn't suspicious in any way?
"Far from it! In fact, Laurel thinks that Rhona is quite poorly and wants to help out as best she can. Laurel is being a Good Samaritan, which is even worse from Rhona's point of view. Laurel isn't nosy, but she can be a busybody - a bit like Pearl. Those kind of people are quite dangerous to Rhona at the moment."

What can you tell us about the carjacking?
"Rhona and Laurel have been to about three chemists, and they obviously don't have what Rhona needs, which is her drugs. She's covering it up to Laurel by saying that they don't have tooth gel for Leo. When they get to the fourth or fifth pharmacy, Rhona takes so long in there and is so preoccupied with getting the drugs in her system as fast as she can, that she comes out and finds Laurel and Leo sat on the side of the road with no car.

"They've been carjacked. They're not in a particularly pleasant area, because they've been going from pharmacy to pharmacy, and Laurel's found herself in a bit of trouble."

Does Rhona feel guilty?
"Yeah, the guilt is immense anyway because of all the lies she's been telling, and then this is even worse. Not only has her friend been in danger, but her son too. She thinks that something could have happened to Leo and wonders what would have happened if Laurel hadn't managed to get him out of the car. It's every parent's worst nightmare, so the guilt doesn't even cover how she feels. It's just immense, really."

Later on, Vanessa realises that Rhona is self-medicating and warns that she could overdose or even die. How does Rhona react?
"Vanessa's words don't have as much effect as she might have hoped! Rhona is so far into her addiction now and so self-obsessed. Even the possible danger that Leo faced isn't enough, when for most parents that would be a huge wake-up call. Nothing is making an impact on Rhona at the moment, which is just terrible."

How does Rhona feel when Vanessa then hides her pills?
"She's furious! She just thinks, 'How dare you interfere? How dare you try to control me?' Rhona is not herself and not thinking rationally. She's only thinking about one thing - how to get drugs."

Why does Rhona rob the vets later in the week?
"Rhona has reached the point where the cold turkey and the withdrawal is so bad that she is blinded by her need to feed her addiction. It just takes over. It's such an extreme thing to do, but she's driven by the drugs. This is not the Rhona that we've known over the past three years."

How concerned is Rhona when Paddy calls the police about the robbery?
"It's terrifying for her. Her head's all over the place anyway, but it's just her worst nightmare. What if they realise that it's a dodgy job? She's really worried that she's going to be found out."

Is Rhona worried when Vanessa figures out that she's the thief?
"Rhona is actually quite angry! It's not the sort of reaction that you'd expect. She's guilty, she's apologetic but she's also irrational at the moment. Rhona starts hurling insults at Vanessa, which is awful behaviour. God only knows why Vanessa puts up with it. I suppose it's because they've got such a history and they're old friends, but I'm not sure I'd go to the extra miles that Vanessa is going to! She's being treated appallingly."

Does Rhona feel any guilt about those outbursts?
"Rhona does have moments of clarity, and that's when she's had her dose of pills. That's when she looks normal and isn't snappy. That's when the remorse comes, when she has that clarity. Once withdrawal kicks in again, she doesn't care about anybody else. It's like a personality change. She's normal when she's on the drugs, but strange again when she's not. It's like Jekyll and Hyde."

We'll also see that Vanessa's feelings for Rhona might be going beyond friendship. Does Rhona have any suspicion over that?
"No, absolutely not. I don't think she sees that one coming at all. Rhona just thinks that they've been mates for 20 years and they've been through so much. She's not thinking straight and she's not really thinking about Vanessa - she's just being vile. She doesn't see any ulterior motive from Vanessa's point of view."

If Rhona did realise how Vanessa was feeling, would she try to use it to her advantage?
"Most definitely! She's become manipulative, she's become a great liar and she's become all the things you don't want in a best friend. She's going to take advantage whenever she can. Like anybody with a dependency or an addiction, she's not herself and she'll do what she can to get what she needs."

Are you shocked to have seen the lengths that addicts will go to?
"Absolutely. We met with a guy who has been through something similar, and he did say, 'Do not underestimate what you would do to get what you need'. That was a few months ago now but it's stayed with me, and as the story's unfolded, I've been quite amazed at how it's played out.

"I think it's been brilliantly written and it's fantastic that we're telling a very true story. There's no point in doing this half-heartedly. The truth of the matter is that addicts are difficult people to be around, and something like this can take over a person's life. It's right and proper that we tell it the way we're telling it.

"It has shocked Michelle, Dominic and I a lot. We didn't think it would get so bad. We've already seen Vanessa get slapped by Rhona, and that for me would be a wake-up call. If I were Vanessa, I'd finish with the friendship at that point, but it gets a lot worse."

What kind of reaction have you seen to the story?
"People seem to be enjoying it, and I don't mean that in a morbid way! I think people are just saying, 'Oh my goodness, we didn't see this coming'. That was actually something we found from the research. The majority of people who are addicted to painkillers are middle-class, middle-aged women who are professional and high-achievers. That's quite surprising.

"If someone had asked me who were the biggest painkiller addicts, I wouldn't have said that bracket - but I didn't know much about it. So I think that brings the awareness to it, and that's the job we have in soap operas. We should be telling relevant, popular storylines that reflect what's going on in people's lives out there.

"I didn't think I knew anybody with a painkiller addiction, but it turns out that I do. Quite a few people just hadn't talked to me about it. It's like depression and miscarriage, it's only once you start talking about it that you hear those stories. I've had positive feedback from people who are enjoying the story."

Have the scenes been a challenge?
"Yes, they have been. It's the hardest story that I've done. In the past I've had the Down's Syndrome story with Leo and the Paddy/Rhona/Marlon love triangle, which was also challenging and hard, but here there's an onus on me.

"I don't want to let anybody down, and that's not just my colleagues here at Emmerdale - it's anyone who's been through this in real life. I don't want to misrepresent anyone, which is a big weight to carry. With that said, we've done our homework and we continue to do so. It's enjoyable, albeit stressful."

Are you looking forward to the scenes where everyone finds out about Rhona's addiction?
"Yeah, if they do! We're only at the tip of the iceberg at the moment. Vanessa is the only person who knows at the moment and if Rhona had her way, that's the way it'd stay. From an actor's point of view, I'm looking forward to it because it will definitely be dramatic.

"What comes with the confession would be consequences, so something would have to happen. I'm dreading that in a way - if anything happens between Paddy and Rhona - because I really like them as a couple. But we'll see what happens."

What do you hope the future holds for Rhona?
"Something a bit happier might be nice. I'd like to see her kick the habit and have a bit more fun, even though this storyline has been lovely, challenging and rewarding. I'd like to see her and Vanessa continue to be friends, but with a storyline like this, there are usually repercussions down the line. Hopefully there can be happiness with everyone on an even keel again, but it'll take time."

Emmerdale star Zoe Henry has warned that the future of Rhona Goskirk's painkiller addiction storyline is "shocking".

Since Rhona became hooked on pills earlier this year, viewers have seen her behaviour spiral out of control each time she needs a new fix.

Fans already know that Rhona risks her veterinary career this week as she burgles her own surgery in order to get her hands on more drugs.

However, teasing where the story heads next, Henry told We Love TV: "There are some shocking scenes ahead in August. When I read the scripts, I was so surprised. Even I didn't think she would stoop as low as she does."

She added: "It's exhausting at times, but she's wonderful to play and I'm enjoying it enormously."

Henry also suggested that the storyline could mean she finally shares some screen time with her real-life husband Jeff Hordley, who plays Cain Dingle.

She said: "Well, somebody did suggest to me the other day that Cain would be able to get Rhona drugs. So who knows? Watch this space!"

Emmerdate star Zoe Henry has revealed that her character Rhona Goskirk's painkiller addiction has prompted a wave of confessions from former sufferers, including her own dad.

This week, viewers will see Rhona's behaviour spiral out of control as she fakes a burglary in a desperate bid to get her hands on a stash of drugs.

However, Henry admitted that she had no idea how widespread prescription drug addiction was until producers urged her to research the issue on the internet.

She told The Sun: "Before this storyline came up, painkiller addiction wasn't something I knew much about and I had no idea it was such a big problem.

"So when the producers rang suggesting I Google it, I was amazed. I felt a bit naive really because in America it kills more people than alcohol.

"I'm the kind of person who virtually never takes painkillers, so it felt like stumbling on something that was worlds away from me and my life.

"People come up to me and admit they have been hooked. I certainly didn't think I knew anybody who would go and do it. But since the storyline began, lots of people have said to me, 'Oh yes, I've had a problem', or their friend or relative has."

Henry has also learned since taking on the storyline that her dad suffered an addiction to morphine.

"My dad Graham had to have morphine patches withdrawn. He had a knee operation in February this year, but his doctors took the patches away from him a week and a half after he was discharged from hospital.

"He told me afterwards he was amazed at how easy and quick it was to get into a position where you just say to yourself, 'Let's have another one'.

"A storyline like this can have a really positive reaction because it takes some of that shame away - it's a green light for people to talk about it."

Emmerdale 29th July - 2nd August 2013

Rhona is furious with Vanessa who has been confiding in Moira about her friend with a painkiller addiction, however Vanessa reassures Rhona that she used the ruse of a “male friend”. The friends appear to be back on the right track but Rhona is already focusing on her next fix.

When her dealer fails to get her any pills, Rhona starts showing signs of withdrawal and claims to Paddy that she is unwell.

Later, when Vanessa hears that Rhona is off sick, she confronts Rhona, aware that she is self-medicating. During their heated confrontation, Vanessa makes a shock admission.

Vet Vanessa Woodfield is of course very confused over her feelings for her friend Rhona Kirk right now, and none of it’s being made any easier by the fact that Vanessa is supplying Rhona with drugs!

However, as we’re set to see next week, when Rhona gets fed up of having to rely solely on Vanessa to curb her drug cravings, she’ll turn to a drug dealer, but of course, that’s a move that’s potentially fraught with danger.

The drama begins on Tuesday, July 30, when we see Rhona hurling insults at Vanessa as she’s still fuming after finding out that Vanessa confided in Moira (Natalie J Robb) about her drug addicted friend…
However, Vanessa reassures Rhona that she used the ruse of a “male friend” and later, Rhona apologises to Vanessa and suggests that maybe they should find her a real male ‘friend’ which of course leaves Vanessa thrown.

Then, in Thursday’s double-bill of episodes, we’ll see that a struggling Rhona has set up a meeting with her dealer, but she’s distressed when he turns up empty-handed having been unable to get hold of her pills. Anxiously, she asks how long it will be until he can get them, and in her panic, she tells him for now, she’ll take whatever he’s got to sell her, no matter what it is.

Later, there’s momentary panic when Leo’s nursery calls to say nobody’s arrived to pick the little boy up, and when they finally catch up with Rhona, both Marlon (Mark Charnock) and Paddy (Dominic Brunt) seem unconvinced when she comes up with an excuse about why she didn’t collect Leo…
On Friday, with Rhona in a foul mood, struggling with withdrawal and physically shivering, Paddy seems to buy it when she tells him she’s not feeling well. He offers to get her something from the chemist, which Rhona guiltily accepts, but she suggests that they don’t tell Vanessa and Pearl that she’s not well, saying they might worry about catching whatever bug she has.

However, later, when Paddy accidentally lets the cat out of the bag, Vanessa’s fuming to realise what’s going on, and she confronts Rhona, telling her that self-medicating is dangerous…

But as Vanessa lays into Rhona about her behaviour, will she also let it slip that she’s more than a concerned friend?

Monday
Rhona makes a call to arrange a meeting with her dealer. The dodgy dealer's offerings look dangerous as they are unboxed and unbranded, but a desperate Rhona rips into them and gorges what she can.

Later, Vanessa apologises to Rhona for messing up their friendship by her confession over her feelings. However, Rhona is unable to listen and dashes to the lavatory to be violently sick. It soon becomes clear that there is a serious problem when she begins vomiting blood. Rhona is rushed to hospital and is in a bad way, while Vanessa is distraught to realise the extent of her addiction and deceptive dealings. She urges Rhona to come clean to both the hospital and Paddy, but can Rhona admit the truth?

Tuesday
Rhona is visited in hospital by the doctor, who is worried about her. As Rhona had so much paracetamol in her body, it was either down to an overdose or a dependency problem. Taking matters into her own hands and to avoid more questions, Rhona swiftly discharges herself.

Later at home, Paddy is mortified, angry and perplexed to have phoned Rhona's mother, only to discover that his wife has been lying to him about where she is. When Rhona returns home, will Paddy confront his wife and get the truth as to where she has been?

Wednesday
Rhona is completely thrown when Paddy explains that he's booked them a last-minute instant break in Whitby to save their marriage. Unable to find a legitimate reason to object, she is forced to agree. Later, Vanessa drops her bombshell that she will leave for good whilst they are away. How will Rhona cope?

Thursday
Finally, Vanessa urges Rhona to come clean to Paddy while they're away.

A manipulative Rhona is trying to convince Vanessa to stay, worried that she'll lose her drug supply. However, Vanessa remains unconvinced. In Smithy, Paddy is nervous as he knows his marriage depends on this trip. Rhona tells Paddy that going away won't fix anything and Paddy is heartbroken as he says they don't have a marriage anymore. Overhearing, Vanessa knows Rhona has chosen her over her marriage - will this convince her to stay?

Friday
Rhona uses her relationship breakdown with Paddy to manipulate Vanessa into giving her more pills. Sensing Paddy is vulnerable, Vanessa suggests to him that Rhona may be seeing someone else.

Rhona and Vanessa kiss.

Painkiller addict Rhona needs to keep Vanessa on side as she remains her main source of pills.

Although she has no romantic feelings for Vanessa whatsoever, Rhona has decided to manipulate her feelings to continue getting her fix.

Michelle Hardwick, who plays Vanessa, explained: "It's a really unhealthy relationship, because it's totally one-sided. Of course Rhona cares deeply for Vanessa, because she always has done, but only as a friend. Vanessa's love runs a heck of a lot deeper than that!".

Revealing Vanessa's intentions, Hardwick continued: "At the moment Vanessa is not seeing past getting Rhona better. Once that has happened, she'd like to just walk out into The Woolpack as a couple and get everybody to accept them as a couple in the village.

"But at the forefront of Vanessa's mind at the moment is to get Rhona off the pills and get her to tell her husband Paddy the truth."

Emmerdale airs these scenes on Friday, August 23 at 7pm on ITV.

Rhona Goskirk hits rock bottom as her painkiller addiction storyline continues.

Rhona's life spirals out of control when her estranged husband Paddy catches her kissing her best friend Vanessa Woodfield.

Although Rhona (Zoe Henry) is only manipulating Vanessa to continue getting pills from her, she can't admit the truth behind the shameful situation. As a result, Paddy is left thinking that Rhona is having an affair.

Things get even worse for Rhona when Vanessa discovers that she has been receiving pills from other sources as well as her.

At the end of her tether over Rhona's lies, a furious Vanessa packs her bags to leave. Afterwards, the prospect of being left alone has horrifying consequences for Rhona as she takes too many pills and suffers an overdose…

Emmerdale vet Rhona Goskirk faces another heartbreaking setback next week as Paddy Kirk ends their marriage.

Paddy (Dominic Brunt) realises that he can no longer trust Rhona after he finds her with some pills, which prompts her to check into rehab to get professional help for her painkiller addiction.

Here, Zoe Henry - who plays Rhona - reveals what's in store as her troubled character continues to struggle.

Next week, Rhona finds out that Paddy has been confiding in Chas about her drug addiction. How does she feel about that?
"I think she feels really hurt, although she doesn't have a leg to stand on considering what she's just lied to Paddy about, which is enormous. I think she's feeling vulnerable and insecure about everything. She's worried that Paddy has lost trust in their marriage.

"I don't know if Rhona definitely thinks something is going on, but it's an uncomfortable feeling. She doesn't like the fact he's confided in Chas, but she has no right to say that really after her recent behaviour."

Rhona feels that Paddy has broken her trust, doesn't she?
"Yeah, I think it is the breaking trust. Deep down Rhona would never imagine that anything would happen between Paddy and Chas, but she's feeling so lost and so insecure at the moment that anything that rocks the boat is not good for her. She's emotionally unstable after what she's been through."

Paddy catches Rhona with some pills again. Does she intend to take them at this point?
"I don't think she does intend to take them, I think they're a security blanket. I remember when I gave up smoking, it was a similar thing. I would panic at the thought of not having any around, so I can understand that security blanket type thing.

"I think Rhona actually says that to Paddy: 'I wasn't going to take them - it was a security blanket. I need to know they're there so I've got the strength to stay off them'. However, I wouldn't trust Rhona with them. As much as she says she wasn't going to take them, she'll take one and then she'll be taking the whole packet before you know it. I don't think she can ever be trusted again. She's a true addict."

Does Paddy believe Rhona when she says she hasn't taken any?
"I think he believes she hasn't taken any - she has the pills there and he can see evidence that they haven't been touched, but I doubt he believes that she was never going to take any. If he hadn't have caught her red handed with them, he thinks she may well have taken the odd one or two just to get herself through. That's what she was doing before when she was addicted - getting herself through and not realising she was properly addicted."

Do you think this moment is the last straw for their relationship?
"I think it's a real realisation point for Paddy. I think he realises that he just can't trust Rhona, and a massive part of any marriage is trust. Regardless of whether you're talking about people having affairs or people gambling or whatever, if you can't trust somebody, what have you got?

"They tried to do the cold turkey thing themselves which is terrifying and awful, and then they've gone to the clinic which is the best way to do it, and then she's gone and bought pills. I think Paddy just feels really, really let down and I think Rhona's let herself down. I think she probably feels quite ashamed too."

Do they get the chance to talk this through properly?
"Not really - Paddy's quite black and white about things. As a dithery guy, he's hit the nail on the head pretty much. He's done exactly what I would do which is say, 'No, this is not working anymore. I can't trust you - I've tried but I just can't' and he moves out, which is his way of dealing with it."

What is it that makes Rhona check into rehab?
"I think she realises how much is at stake here, and how much she could lose if she hasn't already lost it. That's her son, her marriage, her dignity, her friendships - all of those. She's risking those on a daily basis and I think she's taking it a bit lightly, the thought of getting over this.

"The reality is that the only way she's going to get everything back on track is if she gets completely clean. When Paddy refuses to speak about it and refuses to move back home, she realises something serious has got to change and something big has got to happen to get things back on track."

How does she feel about going to rehab?
"I think she's terrified. She's terrified of leaving her son behind, she's terrified of it not working, and she's worried about her marriage falling apart whilst she's in there if it hasn't already. I think she's frightened and like a little girl who's lost. She is trying the one last thing that she thinks might help her."

Is Vanessa there for her?
"Yeah, they've sort of patched things up but like any relationship or friendship, if you cross a line - which Rhona clearly did - you have to work to get it back. So yes they're speaking and yes they're friends, but they are in nowhere the sort of friendship state that they were before this terrible episode happened.

"Rhona has still got Vanessa, and she knows that Pearl is there for her as well. Pearl's a real mother figure to her but the reality is that she's on her own. She's got to do this on her own, she's got no choice."

Rhona doesn't see Paddy before she leaves, does she?
"She tries to. She goes and sees Chas and says, 'Look, this is what's happening. I'm going away, can you tell Paddy?' Chas is like 'Absolutely, I'll make sure Paddy comes and talks to you' and he doesn't. I think that's a real home truth for Rhona as well. It makes her realise the severity of the situation and how far she's got to go before she can get things back on track.

"She's a little bit heartbroken about that. I think she would have at least liked to say goodbye to Paddy before she went. This is an open book and she has no idea how long she'll be away for, no idea how long it's going to take her to beat this habit, and it's a scary place. She's not in a good place at the moment."

Do you think this really is the end for Rhona and Paddy?
"I hope not, personally. The actress in me hopes not because I like working with Dominic and I like those characters together - I think they work really well and I enjoy them, but I don't know. Rhona has done awful things and the one person she should have confided in is her husband, and she didn't.

"When you rock the foundations that much in any relationship, it's quite hard to come back. I think Rhona would like dearly to save the marriage - I'm just not sure Paddy will."

What kind of viewer feedback have you seen for this storyline?
"It's really positive. Viewers haven't seen Rhona heading off to rehab yet, but I think they'll be thrilled that she is. The main overriding thing, especially now they see the marriage problems, is that people want Paddy and Rhona to stay together.

"That's a really nice thing for Dom and I to hear because it means something's working that we're doing. So that's the sort of response I'm getting: 'Oh, Paddy's not going to leave her is he?' I can't really answer that question, can I?!"

Emmerdale fans will see Rhona Goskirk's marriage crumble next week as she discovers that her husband Paddy has been cheating on her.

After months in the dark over Paddy's bad behaviour, the penny will finally drop for Rhona after she becomes suspicious over his strange moods.

Paddy (Dominic Brunt) started enjoying a fling with married teaching assistant Tess Harris in the autumn, although he later called things off as he didn't want to lose Rhona and his family.

So how does Rhona finally figure things out? Zoe Henry, who plays her, revealed: "Paddy messes up by misdiagnosing a cow at James's farm. He's quite flippant about what he got wrong and he's quite rude to James about it, which is out of character for him. Rhona really senses that Paddy is under pressure, he's evasive and he's not around much.

"Rhona sits Paddy down to talk about what's going on, and it all finally starts to piece together for her. Paddy starts to tell Rhona that he's had a row with Tess, but she can't understand why Paddy would be arguing with her when she's just their child's TA.

Rhona realises that Paddy and Tess were having an affair

"In the end, she asks him the big question of whether he's the affair that Tess has spoken to her about. Paddy does admit it and he apologises. In some ways I think Paddy is enormously relieved that it's out there, but he's also terrified that he's probably just lost his wife."

While Rhona is naturally furious following Paddy's confession, her reaction may surprise many viewers as she later tells him that they have to carry on as normal.

Not wanting to jeopardise their plans to adopt a child, Rhona insists that they have to carry on living under the same roof - even though deep down she'll never be able to forgive Paddy.

Henry continued: "At first Rhona wants to know every detail. She wants to know where it happened, when, and how often! She wants to know the betrayal inside out - I guess so there are no more surprises down the line. Perhaps that is with a view to forgiving and trying to get through this.

"Rhona tells Paddy that they have to pretend everything is okay for the sake of the adoption. By focusing on that, somehow it lessens the pain of the affair for Rhona. As an outsider, that sounds insane to me! But I understand why Rhona does it, because she just doesn't want to think about anything else.

"Paddy is really treading on eggshells through all of this. One minute Rhona is yelling at him and demanding to know everything, but the next minute she's telling him that she never wants to talk about it again because she's concentrating on the adoption. I don't envy Paddy's position, but at the same time I don't really feel sorry for him because he's brought it on himself!"

With Rhona and Paddy firmly established as one of the village's much-loved couples, is there any chance they can get through this?

Henry teased: "If I were Rhona's friend, I'd tell her to have some space from Paddy. From a personal point of view, I would love to see them work through it and stay together, because I love working with Dominic so much.

"But I think it's probably a long road. If Paddy is totally honest and tells Rhona everything, there's a chance for them. I hope they work it out, because I love working with Dom and I can't bear to think that we just might be strangers in the night saying hello in the pub once a year!

"The story has been great, though. Everybody's asked if I was gutted when I found out that Paddy was going to have an affair. The answer is no, not remotely - Dom and I almost cheered! It's not because we don't want to spend any time together, but just because it's great fun to play out and we love shouting at each other - in the nicest possible way!

"It's been a really interesting journey so far with lots of twists, and I think there's probably a lot more to come. I think people have enjoyed loving to hate Paddy - and now they'll enjoy watching Rhona find out and how she deals with Paddy..."

Emmerdale love cheat Paddy Kirk will slip up badly next week when he decides to secretly attend Tess Harris's funeral.

The vet is suffering from a major guilty conscience following his affair with Tess and is determined to pay his last respects... but he makes a huge error when he tries to keep his wife Rhona in the dark.

It's Rhona who initially suggests that she and Paddy (Dominic Brunt) should both be there for Tess's send-off following her shock death. Paddy rejects the idea, so Rhona becomes confused and suspicious when she later realises that he went behind her back.

Zoe Henry, who plays Rhona, revealed: "Rhona suggests going to the funeral and Paddy says 'absolutely not'. Rhona listens to him, but then he goes without her. Megan also goes and spies Paddy.

"Megan later tells Rhona, but she still doesn't suspect anything untoward is going on. She leaves it and doesn't even ask him outright - she waits for him to tell her he has been.

"When he doesn't tell her after two days, she does start to think something is going on but still doesn't assume that it was an affair. She later asks him what's going on and tells him that she knows he went to the funeral, but then her world just crumbles around her.

"I've had people tweeting me saying, 'How stupid is Rhona?', but this is the thing - Paddy is so honest and dependable. There are a million things Paddy could do before he could have an affair in Rhona's mind! It's the furthest thought from her head, until it's right there in front of her and she can't avoid it."

As we've previously reported, Paddy reluctantly confesses all to Rhona but is left stunned when she becomes determined to carry on as normal - adamant that nothing should threaten their adoption plans.

Henry added: "The adoption is the only thing that Rhona has left to hang on to. She becomes a bit crazed about it. As a result of Rhona not wanting anyone to know anything is wrong, they are a bit mean to Pearl. She is the first casualty, as we ask her to move out! It's a terrible mess."

Emmerdale actress Zoe Henry has revealed Rhona Kirk will share a charged moment with her ex Marlon Dingle in the fallout of her marriage troubles.
The village vet is left devastated when she discovers husband Paddy has been having an affair with Tess Harris. And she will turn to her former flame Marlon for a shoulder to cry on, and for a moment they almost kiss!
Zoe explained: “What we are still filming now is a rollercoaster of emotions, she’s shocked and angry, all of these things.
“Through this journey she looks back at the crossroads in her life and thinks, ‘If I hadn’t of left Marlon this would never have hurt me’, so she questions that and it freaks Marlon out a bit!
“She tries to kiss him, well it depends how you look at it! She says some very lovely things and emotional things to him.
“He thinks she’s going to kiss him and she realises that it would be adding fire to fire and not resolving anything, but they are close anyway, they have a son together and a history so he’s actually an enormous support for her.”
Meanwhile Dominic Brunt, who plays Paddy, says there is even more to come from this storyline.
He said: “It’s been really tough. I’m used to playing lighter stories or being involved in other people’s heavier stuff, like when Aaron came out, so it’s been lovely to be trusted with something like this.
“I’m used to being liked and now I am playing a baddie! There is more to come with this so keep watching!”

Spoilers suggest that Pierce is "villianous". Also that Rhona is desperate for an adopted child. So Paddy should [IMO] survive his doomed fling with Tess, as Kirin was the obvious fall guy for Tess's downfall in the end?

I think Pierce will find out about the affair in a while. I reckon Rhona is very likely to stick with Paddy though (as "star-struck lovers", "till death do us part"?).

Just why does everyone think an adopted person will be a cute innocent baby? It could be a troubled pre-teen/teenager with personal/emotional problems placed in a stable home for just a few months or so, couldn't it?

Time will tell!

Emmerdale vet Rhona Goskirk will find herself under suspicion next week, as Pearl Ladderbanks wonders whether she's back on the painkillers.

Rhona (Zoe Henry) has managed to get her life back on track after an addiction to pills nearly destroyed her in 2013, but her friend Pearl will soon start to wonder whether her old demons have returned.

Pearl (Meg Johnson) jumps to completely the wrong conclusion when she realises that Rhona's marriage to Paddy has suddenly hit the rocks.

This comes after Rhona finally figures out that Paddy was the mystery man who Tess Harris was having an affair with before she died, forcing him to make a full confession.

Although a heartbroken Rhona insists on carrying on as normal so they don't jeopardise their adoption plans, her attitude infuriates Paddy (Dominic Brunt) as he knows that she's just burying her head in the sand.

When Rhona inevitably snaps and tells Paddy that she's glad Tess is dead, he retaliates by insisting that their marriage can never recover unless they talk about things.

Taking this on board, Rhona later asks Paddy for the full story of what happened between him and Tess. At first she is prepared to listen, but it soon becomes too much and she's left feeling ashamed when she loses her temper in front of her son Leo.

Later in the week, the troubled couple also have a second blazing row in their car - but this time Pearl witnesses the whole thing.

Zoe Henry [Rhona] and Dominic Brunt [Paddy] gave a recent interview to Sarah Ellis from Inside Soap about his latest storyline involving Paddy's recent love affair with Tess Harris.

Sarah: Can we just say, we're still in shock that Tess is dead! How did you feel when you found out it was going to happen?

Dominic: We knew from the start, actually, didn't we? We asked Nicola [Stephenson, who played Tess] about it in her first week, and she said she knew she wasn't staying - she had another job to go to straight after.

Zoe: We were just thrilled that Paddy was going to have an affair!

Sarah: It sounds a bit like she's [TW: Rhona] going to let Paddy get away with it...

Zoe: Oh, don't you worry, Rhona's not particularly nice to him. You'll all be thrilled by how awful she is to him! If she is nice in any way, it's for her benefit or the benefit of their adoption plans.

Emmerdale stars Zoe Henry and Dominic Brunt have teased more fireworks in Paddy and Rhona's ongoing storyline, confirming that newcomer Pierce will be "inflammatory" to the situation.

Rhona's world came crashing down around her last week when she finally learned the truth about her husband Paddy's affair with Tess Harris.

The events followed the tense episodes earlier this month that saw Tess get killed in a hit and run at the hands of Kirin Kotecha. The teacher's death also led to the introduction of her husband Pierce and viewers will be seeing a lot more from him in the coming weeks.

Speaking on This Morning today (February 23), Henry, who plays Rhona, said: "Pierce will be fairly inflammatory to the situation.

"We don't know a great deal. Jonathan [Wrather, who plays Pierce] knows more than we do but he is here for a stretch."

Brunt, who plays Paddy, added: "There are going to be fireworks. I really want to tell you what happens but I can't. It's great though."

The aftermath of Rhona's discovery saw her make the surprise decision to stay with Paddy in a bid to pursue their adoption plans. However, the actress has suggested that her plans could start to fall apart in the near future.

Speaking about whether she agrees with her character's decision, Henry said: "Personally, no. It doesn't feel right but I understand where Rhona is coming from.

"This is the only thing that she can focus on that keeps her sane but I think it is fair to say that inevitably the wheels come off down the line."

Emmerdale's Rhona Goskirk seizes her chance to take revenge next week when she flirts outrageously with her son Leo's new teaching assistant.

Rhona (Zoe Henry) was recently left devastated when she learned of Paddy's affair with Leo's last teaching assistant Tess Harris, so she decides that it's high time to get even next week.

Tess's replacement is a man called Chris, so Rhona can't resist playfully proving a point to Paddy (Dominic Brunt) by pretending to be romantically interested in the newcomer.

With the troubled couple at breaking point once again, it's not long before some of their closest friends are brought into the tense situation - starting when Marlon Dingle (Mark Charnock) learns of Paddy's affair for the first time.

Emmerdale's Rhona Goskirk makes a heartbreaking decision next week as she finally calls off her adoption plans.

The heartbroken vet has desperately clung onto the idea of adopting a child ever since discovering that her husband Paddy Kirk (Dominic Brunt) cheated on her.

Rhona has been trying to pretend that everything is normal in her marriage in a bid to keep the adoption on track, but this finally proves impossible next week when Tess Harris's husband Pierce (Jonathan Wrather) uncovers the truth about her affair with Paddy.

Pierce attacks Paddy

In the aftermath, Rhona's best friend Vanessa Woodfield (Michelle Hardwick) gets heavily involved in the situation as she urges her to see sense and call off the adoption.

Rhona initially refuses to listen to Vanessa, but the reality of the situation dawns on her when she later sits down for her latest meeting with social worker Rita.

Zoe Henry, who plays Rhona, commented: "When Rita turns up in the village, Rhona has totally forgotten that they've got a meeting planned. Of course, it's the day after Pierce confronted Paddy. Now people in the village know, because the confrontation happened in The Woolpack. Word has got round and Rhona feels mortified that she looks like a pushover.

Pierce fumes at Paddy

"Rhona is still determined to have the meeting, but Vanessa thinks it's ridiculous and they can't go through with the adoption. Rhona has a bit of a row with Vanessa and says some mean things to her.

"Afterwards Rhona goes to the meeting with Rita, who talks about how the child that they're going to bring into their lives needs a stable and happy home. That's when it all just crumbles around Rhona. She realises how insane it is and just says: 'I can't do this'. She tells her everything, and Rita is very understanding."

With the adoption off, Rhona soon lurches into the next plan to save her marriage by telling Paddy that they should move to Germany for six months and see if they can make things work.

Paddy and Rhona tell Marlon about their plans to move away

Henry added: "I think Rhona really believes the trip can work. Paddy doesn't necessarily want to go, but he will do whatever it takes to make his marriage work.

"As an outsider, I don't think it would. Rhona is still not wanting to talk about what happened. There's been no talk of counselling, or any of those things that would be an obvious choice to get through something like this. Personally I don't think a change of scenery will help, but Rhona is hell-bent on it."

"It's set to get so much darker and as a soap villain he has the potential to go all the way, not just with Rhona but with anyone in the village who gets in his way. He will stop at nothing to get what he wants.

"But if anyone has the potential to take him on, it's Vanessa."

In emotional scenes that will air tonight, Rhona makes the courageous move to attend the police station and report her ordeal. Two incidents of rape , four or five physical violence incidents, hardly a one off. In her situation surely a mother's prime concern would be the welfare of her son Leo. Never seems to enter into the equation. If she reports the matter and background to the police they would have an absolute obligation to notify social services and indeed take action themselves concerning the wellbeing of Leo.

Emmerdale aired the devastating aftermath of Rhona Goskirk's rape on Tuesday night (April 25) as she decided not to name Pierce Harris as her attacker.

Rhona was brutally attacked by her new husband just hours after their wedding in last night's episode, sparking a debate among viewers about whether the intense storyline was suitable for the show's 7pm timeslot.

The ITV soap's latest episode saw Rhona left traumatised in the wake of Pierce's attack, especially when he showed no remorse and even tried to justify his behaviour.

Although Rhona tried to play along with Pierce's point of view, she soon managed to trick him by escaping from their house and taking a taxi to the police station – still in her wedding dress.

Rhona told the officers that she'd been raped, but when she heard that her attacker would have to be arrested if she named him, she got cold feet and decided not to take it further for now.

Instead, Rhona agreed to visit a Sexual Assault Referral Centre (SARC), where trained professionals gave her a medical examination and gathered together evidence.

As this evidence will be stored, this could prove crucial if Rhona does change her mind and decide to report Pierce.

Zoe Henry, who plays Rhona, had previously warned that Tuesday's episode would feature even more upsetting scenes than Monday's.

Speaking live on This Morning, she explained: "Tonight, in the playing, was harder than what we shot last night in a way, because of how Pierce reacts. You expect an apology or a 'I can't believe I did that', but that doesn't come.

"Rhona feels not that she deserves this, but that she's brought this about. She's seen signs and she's ignored them and she's defended him, and she's pushed her friends away. Here she is on her own and where does she go from here? That's the question, isn't it?"

Emmerdale's Rhona Goskirk has left the village for a short break in the aftermath of her devastating rape ordeal.

After days of emotional turmoil, Rhona (Zoe Henry) made the big decision in Thursday night's second episode – realising that she needed time away to clear her head.

Rhona was raped by her new husband Pierce Harris on her wedding day earlier this week, but Emmerdale fans have been left fearing that he won't face justice as she's largely been suffering in silence ever since.

Although Rhona did briefly speak to the police and also visited a Sexual Assault Referral Centre (SARC), she felt unable to proceed with a full interview or pressing charges against Pierce.

Tonight's emotional double bill saw Pierce continue his appalling behaviour as he tried his best to manipulate Rhona even further.

Pierce warned Rhona that she wouldn't be successful if she pressed charges against him and even threatened to use their sex tape against her if she took it any further.

Only time will tell whether Rhona is scared off by Pierce's threats in the long-run, but for the time being, she's headed off on her honeymoon to get some much-needed distance from her evil husband.

Continuing to cover for Pierce by pretending everything was normal, she told Marlon Dingle that he'd be joining her later on after something unexpected cropped up with work.

Emmerdale fans don't need to worry about losing Rhona for long, as she'll be back in the village early next month as the Pierce storyline continues.

Emmerdale's Rhona Goskirk WILL name Pierce Harris to the police as her rape storyline continues
Emmerdale's Rhona Goskirk will follow through with reporting Pierce Harris to the police when she returns to the village next month.
Rhona was raped by Pierce on their wedding day earlier this week, but she ultimately felt unable to go through with pressing charges against him in emotional scenes.
Although Rhona did visit the police station and a Sexual Assault Referral Centre (SARC) – where crucial evidence was gathered – she later returned home to the village without seeing the process through.
Since then, Rhona has headed off away from Emmerdale for a short break, desperate for an escape from Pierce and his evil attempts to torment her further.
Speaking at an Emmerdale press day, show producer Iain MacLeod told Digital Spy and other media where the dark storyline goes from here.
"Ultimately abusers don't stop being abusers because they get caught," he explained. "The result will be that Rhona will ultimately see through the course of action she started this week and we will follow the story through the legal process.
"Within all that, Pierce is a controlling man and the tragic reality of the situation is that those men don't really stop. Therefore we felt a responsibility that we had to show Pierce's behaviour continuing, albeit in a slightly different form.
"We'll be playing it out through and over the summer."
MacLeod added that he ultimately wants the storyline to encourage survivors of rape and sexual abuse to come forward.
He confirmed: "We want this story to get Rhona to a point, and viewers at home who have been through similar to a point, where they feel it's been a positive story to tell rather than a negative one.
"The worst thing we can do as dramatists would be to dissuade people at home who may have experienced this from coming forward and speaking about it.
"We'd hope the opposite is true – that more people come forward and report their experience. We want that outcome for Rhona and the viewer.
"It's a big story for us and comes back in various chapters, with a big story peak in late summer."

Emmerdale star Zoe Henry has revealed new details of Rhona Goskirk's return next week, explaining how she's "absolutely terrified" when she arrives back in the village.

Rhona has decided to take some time away with her young son Leo after the trauma of being raped by her new husband Pierce Harris on their wedding day.

As soon as Rhona arrives back, she lets Paddy Kirk know that her marriage to Pierce is over already – but how long it'll take for her to start confiding in her loved ones with the full story remains to be seen.

Revealing the drama to come, Zoe explained: "Rhona has been in a state of panic after what happened. She's been to Cornwall, not Scotland as planned. She's genuinely terrified about what she's coming back to, and her state of mind is fragile and alone.

"Rhona is absolutely terrified that Pierce might come back. She doesn't know where he is and that's part of the terror: is he going to be in her house? Is he going to have told everybody what happened? Is he going to have made up a pack of lies? She's really unsure of what to expect and that really frightens her.

"It's very difficult for Rhona to step into the house, let alone the lounge where it happened. She makes herself go in with Leo, but she makes sure everything is locked up – the doors are bolted and the windows are locked. She's a woman on the edge, but stepping into that lounge is the hardest thing she's ever done."

As we revealed yesterday, Rhona's best friend Vanessa Woodfield (Michelle Hardwick) comes to see her after Paddy tells her about the split from Pierce. Upon her arrival, she's stunned to see that Rhona has trashed the house and all of the wedding presents.

Zoe continued: "Rhona has kept it all together for Leo's sake, but coming back to the house opens that can of worms again. When she gets to the lounge, she decides to deal with the wedding presents, but there's a gift there from Pierce.

"When Rhona sees that, she snaps and she loses it. She sees that he bought her a wedding night gift, so the wheels come off and she loses it big time.

"Rhona would love to share all of this with someone, namely Vanessa, but their relationship has broken down because of Pierce – to the point where Rhona feels almost responsible.

"It's not that the attack was Rhona's fault, but she feels somehow she brought it on and she could have stopped it. There's a lot of guilt involved with how she's treated Vanessa and she feels very alone.

"I think this is the beginning of Rhona's nightmare. As much as this was an awful ordeal, in some ways it's going to be awful to re-live it – if other people find out, if she tells the police, or if she goes to court. I wonder if Rhona might put it all back into a box and forget about it."

Just hope Rhona's guilt feeling doesn't lead to allowing Pierce back into her life. Should tell Vanessa what happened, I'd bet she'd give Rhona a lot of support. Needs someone to move in with her , get the locks changed and carry a panic alarm. A pressurised can of hair spray at hand might also provide some protection.

Are you allowed a can of hair spray in self defence? Pierce being a solicitor might accuse her of ABH?

Worth looking Perdy at following, on the net, "Self-Defence and the Prevention of Crime" guidelines from C.P.S. for U.K. Reasonable force, including preemptive strikes if threat of personal harm, as a last resort. Hair spray everyday item to have available. Damage to property different matter.

Brave Rhona Goskirk heads out of Emmerdale in emotional scenes as she strives to seek help over her relapse into painkiller addiction following the rape ordeal she was subjected to at the hands of her evil husband Pierce Harris.

While her friends are yet to find out the root of her trauma, they have been left deeply concerned by the fact that she has started taking painkillers again as a coping mechanism. And Vanessa Woodfield decides that tough love is the way forward for her mate when she insists that she goes to rehab and books her in.

While it’s the last thing that Rhona feels up to doing, she knows from her past experience that she needs to get this sorted and so, with a heavy heart, she says an emotional goodbye to Leo and heads off out of the village.

But will she be able to defeat her addiction again – and will the strength of doing so drive her to take control and report Pierce to the police?

Emmerdale's Rhona Goskirk makes a brave decision next week, as she finally tells the police that her husband Pierce Harris was the man who raped her.

Rhona (Zoe Henry) reported her rape ordeal to the authorities after Pierce attacked her on their wedding day in April, but she ultimately chose not to press charges and didn't go ahead with naming him.

Next week's episodes see Rhona take some positive steps towards getting back to normal as she's keen to return to work and start looking after her son Leo again.

The only problem for Rhona is that her ex-husband Paddy Kirk (Dominic Brunt) is watching her closely, feeling anxious and disappointed after she suffered a relapse with her painkiller addiction recently.

Still completely unaware of Pierce's evil crime, Paddy meets up with him in secret and tells him all about Rhona's relapse, before begging him to return to help sort things out.

A scheming Pierce (Jonathan Wrather) accepts the invitation, but Rhona is totally horrified when she finds him standing in her living room.

Finally ready to reclaim the power, Rhona goes to the police and names Pierce as her attacker following encouragement from her loyal friend Vanessa Woodfield.

Does this mean that Pierce will be arrested? And will Rhona finally confide in Paddy and Marlon too?

Emmerdale's producer Iain MacLeod recently explained: "The result will be that Rhona will ultimately see through the course of action she started and we will follow the story through due legal process.

"Within all that, Pierce is a controlling man and the tragic reality of the situation is that those men don't really stop. Therefore we felt a responsibility that we had to show Pierce's behaviour continuing, albeit in a slightly different form.

"We'll be playing it out through and over the summer."

Emmerdale is lining up more agony for Rhona Goskirk as evil Pierce Harris’ rape trial draws nearer. With Rhona having shared an innocent embrace with Paddy Kirk, who is desperate to help her, the police arrive with photos of the hug and warn Rhona that it could help to back up Pierce’s case in court.
Pierce is planning to argue that Rhona has constructed the rape as a lie so that she can be with Paddy instead of her husband and Rhona is so horrified that her chance of justice has been hindered that she tells Paddy to stay away from her.

Earlier in the week, Marlon Dingle has suspected that Paddy wants to get back with Rhona but both he and Rhona insist that this couldn’t be further from the truth and Paddy only wants to be there as a pillar of support for his ex. So he is understandably crushed to realise that his actions may have jeopardised the trial.

Meanwhile, Vanessa Woodfield is nervous to discover that she, along with Marlon and Jimmy King, has been summoned as a witness.

As she braces herself and tells Rhona the news, Rhona tells her friend that she trusts her to give evidence.

But Vanessa is clearly feeling the pressure, as is Rhona, as Pierce’s day in court looms closer.

Zoe Henry has teased some interesting new scenes coming up for Cain Dingle and her character Rhona Goskirk.

As soap fans will know, there's an off-screen connection between Rhona and Cain as Zoe and Jeff Hordley – who play the pair – are married in real life.

Although the characters hardly ever share the screen together, the writers did give a nod to their real-life romance at the start of the year when Rhona admitted that she had a little crush on Cain – much to the horror of her evil husband Pierce Harris.

The scene in question saw Rhona reveal that Cain would be her "fantasy one-night stand" during a cheeky game of truth or dare. And Zoe has now revealed that her confession could be revisited in upcoming episodes.

Speaking on This Morning today (July 27), Zoe said: "There was a storyline which started all the stuff with Pierce, where Rhona said her one-night fantasy would be Cain.

"We've just shot some scenes where that doesn't come to light, but certain things happen. That will be on screen in a few weeks.

"I was really nervous to work with Jeff. I wanted to impress him because he's my husband!"

Rhona is taking centre stage in tough scenes this week that have seen her estranged spouse Pierce standing trial for raping her on the day of their wedding.

Although Zoe is remaining tight lipped on the verdict, she did admit that Jeff was a pillar of support when she was filming the harrowing episodes.

"Jeff was brilliant during all the court stuff because I had quite a lot of lines to say," she revealed. "He was very supportive and very helpful.

"But you know what it's like. There's kids, there's packed lunches to make, there is an allotment to keep, there is a dog to walk, and that's nice because it diffuses it. Any stress we do bring home from long days just melts away."

Emmerdale's Rhona Goskirk will drunkenly try to kiss someone this week, after viewers have seen her struggling with the imprisonment of her estranged husband Pierce Harris.

Pierce was sentenced to five years in prison for raping Rhona (Zoe Henry) on their wedding night, and the aftermath of the trial has left Rhona struggling to cope.

Pete Barton and Leyla Harding's wedding day comes as a trigger for Rhona, and viewers will see her turn to alcohol to try and manage her feelings.

Her intoxication leads her to make a drunken move on a fellow villager, although we're not sure who that might be yet.

However, we know to expect upcoming scenes between Rhona and Cain Dingle, played by Zoe's real-life husband Jeff Hordley, as Zoe revealed on This Morning back in July.

"We've just shot some scenes where that doesn't come to light, but certain things happen. That will be on screen in a few weeks," she said at the time.

Will Cain be the target of Rhona's drunken kiss?

Emmerdale appears to be lining up a surprise romance for Rhona Goskirk and Pete Barton as they prepare to go on a date next week.

Rhona (Zoe Henry) was dealt a devastating blow last year when she realised that her estranged husband Paddy Kirk had moved on with Chas Dingle.

Paddy's new romance has forced Rhona to her to keep her rekindled feelings for him to herself, but she'll be given another reminder of what she's missing out on when she attends a village auction in upcoming scenes.

With Paddy up for grabs at the fundraiser, Rhona is hoping to bid for a date with him – only to be irked when Chas gets in there first.

Rhona's jealousy only intensifies as she watches Chas and Paddy looking happy together, prompting her to bid on Pete in the hope that it'll mask her true feelings.

After Rhona wins a date with Pete, the pair make plans to go for a drink together – but is Pete's heart really in it? And more to the point, is Rhona's?

Zoe Henry has admitted that she thinks Rhona Goskirk's secret plan to leave the village is "appalling".

Rhona is currently plotting to start a new life in France with her young son Leo (Harvey Rogerson) and her new partner Graham Foster (Andrew Scarborough).

Leo's dad Marlon Dingle (Mark Charnock) discovered what she was up to at Christmas, sparking a huge argument as he didn't want to be cut off from his son. However, Marlon now wrongly believes that the move has been called off, meaning that he's in the dark again.

Speaking about Rhona's behaviour, Zoe explained: "I think she's so aware that Kim has her watchful eye over her and Graham. They both feel that they'll never be happy with Kim around and she won't leave them alone. She seems to be omnipresent!

"Rhona has been a bit blindsided by how much she hates Kim, and how things have gone sour at the vets. Jamie has turned on her and she's feeling really uncomfortable about the whole situation. She feels that it's all going wrong in the village of Emmerdale, so she wants to get away."

Zoe continued: "As much as I can understand where she's coming from, I don't think she's thinking about the parental stuff around Leo.

"This is the second time Rhona has attempted to go abroad with him. As a parent myself, I think it's appalling and unforgivable, really. I would never forgive anybody who did that to me.

"But again, she's not thinking so clearly – there's a lot going on in her head. Rhona is just focused on escape and getting away, which is clouding her judgement.

"I hope Rhona and Marlon can get back on track because they've had a long history together and they share a child, so they need to get along. But it's not looking good at the moment."

Next week's episodes see Rhona left shocked when she realises that Leo's passport is missing. She confronts Marlon over this, inadvertently tipping him off that she might still be planning to leave with Leo.

Zoe added: "It's an ill-judged moment from Rhona, but she just sees red and instinctively responds to what happened. She goes marching over to the pub and confronts Marlon without thinking it through.

"It's not her finest moment, but she's so enraged that he's trying to stop her from going. Marlon didn't know that she is planning to leave again, so it's really cloak and dagger. It's an awful moment between them and they're horrible to each other. She's really angry with Marlon.

"Afterwards, it all just boils over and Rhona decides that she's done in Emmerdale. It feels like it's the end of the road for her in the village."

Show bosses have already revealed that Rhona's escape plan won't go ahead as expected, as Graham is about to be killed off in a big murder mystery storyline.

https://www.digitalspy.com/soaps/emmerdale/a45605299/emmerdale-rhona-goskirk-baby-shock/

Emmerdale's Rhona Goskirk is expected to receive a huge shock towards the end of the year, as she discovers that her ex-husband Gus Malcolm has gone behind her back to use her frozen embryos.

This leads to the revelation that a baby has been born, who Rhona is legally the mother of.

This development will come after Gus returned to the village earlier this year to ask Rhona whether he could use one of the frozen embryos that they had stored while they were together, in order to have a child with his current partner, Lucy.

Rhona was shocked by Gus' request and by his ongoing deception in keeping them, as she had believed that the embryos had been destroyed. Although she considered giving Gus permission to use them, Rhona ultimately decided not to allow it.

But The Sun reports that Rhona will be horrified when she finds out that Gus has betrayed her by faking Rhona's consent and using one of the embryos - meaning that she has become a mum to a newborn baby, who will arrive before Christmas.

The shocking news will then have the potential to put a big strain on Rhona's marriage to Marlon Dingle.

It was hinted in July that the plot would be revisited, when Rhona revealed that she hasn't been able to find her passport - supporting a fan theory that Gus had stolen it in order to pretend that Rhona had consented.

Emmerdale's executive producer Jane Hudson previously confirmed that the storyline wasn't over after Gus departed, saying that "there is a long way to go with that story".

"We always want to find the next big story and I think this is Rhona's next big story," she explained. "It's going to be one that really captures the viewers."

Actress Zoe Henry, who plays Rhona, also shared her thoughts on her character's situation, saying: "She's human and a mother and she knows how hard that battle is. She's caught between a rock and a hard place. But where do you draw the line? If these embryos come to fruition, technically she's a mother again. It's a real conundrum."

It was a really dumb thing to do and a horrible thing for her children and husband. However, it is hard for me to understand a legal system that would allow for embryo theft and would prevent the biological mother, once a DNA match is proven, to not have shared custody, and for the thief of a father to not be in prison. But even in the US, some states mandate that if a spouse cheats and gets pregnant, then the husband will be declared the father, regardless of the biological father. I just don't get it. Is a marriage like that worth saving?

I am a newer viewer, so don't know. When the passport was identified as missing, did she alert the police or make another legal claim?
