Bob Hope’s son and heir, Jamie! You’ll all know actor Alex Carter as hilarious Hollyoaks teen Lee Hunter, who is suitably equipped for the job as a hapless Hope, having picked up the Best Comedy performance at 2004’s British Soap Awards and Best Comedic Performance in Soap at the recent North West Smile Comedy Awards.

“Jamie is a real chip off the old block but has a slightly strained relationship with his dad,” Alex reveals.

“I’m really excited about the character and can’t wait to get started on Emmerdale.”

I used to like Lee Hunter in the early days of Hollyoaks - not so much in recent years.

Thinking about it though he does bear a similarity to Bob.

We shall see. :hmm:

i Saw Makie in Holby last night so i think lee will be quite in Emmerdale but i think he needs to be around young people like he was in hollyoaks he was better in that.

You never know if hes playing a comic character he caould win a few awards with them. I think its great that other actors join different soaps but i reckon this is quite a quick change. I mean i didnt even know he weas leaving Hollyoaks

Alex Carter has quit Emmerdale after four years in the role of Jamie Hope, Digital Spy can confirm.

The 27-year-old will bow out from the Yorkshire-based soap later this year in order to pursue new projects.

Carter first revealed the news in an interview with Shaun Keaveny on BBC 6 Music and went on to make a number of light-hearted remarks over his character's current contribution to the programme.

He joked: "I'm getting thoroughly depressed because I'm in work every day for about four hours. It's like they're teasing me because I'm leaving and I've got one line. I'm in work every day. It's driving me mental.

"I can't even go off and meet people and talk about being King Rat in Skegness or anything like that. I can't even plan my future! They've got me by the balls."

Meanwhile, asked how Jamie will depart, Carter replied: "Why spoil the habit of my character's lifetime? It's nothing interesting - I think I just go in a cab."

An Emmerdale spokesperson this afternoon told DS: "We can confirm that after four years on the show, Alex Carter has decided to leave Emmerdale. He's been a great asset to the show and we wish him all the very best for the future."

Carter joined ITV's rural soap in November 2005 and first appeared as the local postman on February 16, 2006.

He seems to have been forgotten by the scriptwriters. I hope they get him to go to Australia and patch things up with Louise in the storyline, just for once I want him to be happy. They wasted his character imo

I agree, he is just like Bob and that makes him quite realistic as Bob's son. Shame that they have obviously p****d him off with his cr@p storylines to leave :(

I can't say i blame him as character is supposed to be the village postman but in out side shot's that are set in the morning his character is no where to be seen. He has not been given a decent storyline for god knows how long. I wish him all the best and look forward to seeing him in other projects

No offence to Alex. But his character was just the same as he was when he was in Hollyoaks. The villiage idiot role. He hasn't really progressed as an actor. Maybe that's why he hasn't had many decent storylines.

Alex Carter has reportedly brought his four-year Emmerdale stint to an end.

The actor has filmed his final scenes as postman Jamie Hope for an episode that will air towards the end of May.

Carter, 27, announced that he was leaving the ITV programme in February to persue other projects.

Sian Reese-Williams, who plays his screen girlfriend Gennie Walker, wrote on Twitter that she has been 'crying for weeks'. "So that's it then. He's done. Gutted. Wonderfully talented and a fabulous boy. We will miss him," she tweeted.
