Jedward Sign To Sony Music And Release Their Debut Single

X Factor phenomenon and national treasures Jedward have today signed with Sony Music and will release their debut single later this month.

Finally bowing to public demand Jedward’s first single will be Under Pressure (Ice Ice Baby), featuring 90s icon Vanilla Ice.

The duo, who caused a national sensation with their gravity defying quiffs and energetic performances on last year’s X Factor exclusively performed the single, along with Vanilla Ice, at The National Television Awards on 20th January.

The single will be available to download from Sunday January 31st with a CD release in shops on Monday February 15th.

“Ice Ice Baby”, which samples the bassline of the Queen/Bowie classic ‘Under Pressure,’ was originally written by Vanilla Ice and DJ Earthquake; hitting No.1 across the world. The success of the single led Ice’s album ‘To the Extreme’ to sell over 15 million copies, making it one of the most successful selling rap records of all time.

Jedward’s version of the track has been produced by Nigel Wright, famed for his work with Take That, Boyzone and his long association with Andrew Lloyd Webber, as well as his role as musical director of The X Factor since 2004.

John and Edward said of the single: “A year ago we were training for cross country competitions and now like our idols we are living our dream. We really can’t believe that we have a single out and are performing with Vanilla Ice. We’re dedicating this single to all our fans who have been so supportive to us throughout The X Factor.”

Louis Walsh said: “Jedward really captured the public’s imagination whilst on The X Factor and love them or hate them you can’t deny that they were the talking point of the series. As Under Pressure was the track that really catapulted the boys to fame it seemed only fitting to release the song as their first single.”

Jedward will be appearing on The X Factor 2010 Live Tour which kicks off in Liverpool on February 15th.

Jedward are managed by Louis Walsh and Ashley Tabor, Founder and Group CEO of Global

Michael Barrymore has claimed to be John & Edward's real father during an appearance on Irish television.

The presenter shocked members of the audience with the joke on last weekend's Saturday Night Show.

"I happen to know their mother very well," he told the show's host Brendan O'Connor. "Extremely well, and if you look very closely.

"Seriously, how old are the boys? Aged about 18 now... I can't remember. I send them maintenance money. I don't wish to shock, I know the father is sitting there wishing they were his."

"We should just say that is not legally true!" O'Connor quickly interjected.

Barrymore added: "How dare you take my children away from me? Outrageous."

The 57-year-old proceeded to kiss the twins' mother, who was in the audience to watch her sons perform on the programme.

During the interview, Barrymore also suggested that he is the leader of the sheep society, bursting into song: "Sheep, may be the face I can't regret. Baaaa. May be the mirror of regret. Baaaaa."

Characters apparently inspired by The X Factor's John & Edward have been drawn as thugs in the latest issue of Batman and Robin.

John and Edward Grimes, 18, are seemingly portrayed as villians in the magazine, produced by DC Comics, The Sun reports.

The strip was drawn for the American comic by British artists Grant Morrison and Andy Clarke.

In last year's X Factor, the Grimes brothers became famous for their rendition of the theme to comic book favourite 'Ghostbusters'.

X FACTOR twins Jedward have been axed by music giant Sony after just one single.

The lads - John and Edward Grimes, 18 - signed to the label earlier this year in a bid to cash in on the hype surrounding their time on the show.

But their first song Under Pressure, a duet with ageing rapper Vanilla Ice, failed to top the charts or make much cash for the record company.

It was beaten to No1 last month by American band Owl City and the following week slumped to number 12.

An insider confirmed: "We tried our best to make the lads credible recording artists but punters just weren't that bothered.

"They are great lads but haven't got the greatest voices, so they're something to see rather than listen to.

"Record companies are going through major upheaval so we have to be very careful what we throw our weight behind. I'm sure Jedward will be able to make a buck touring as a novelty act."

The news is a blow for manager Louis Walsh who took the boys on after they were kicked off X Factor last year.

He confirmed the axing last night but insisted: "I'm completely committed to Jedward and I know they still have a great career ahead.

"The boys have a sell-out tour in Ireland straight after The X Factor Tour in April and I'm in talks with a major record label about a new deal for them."

The boys demise will no doubt give Simon Cowell a chuckle - he refused to give Jedward a deal with his Syco label.

He signed X Factor winner Joe McElderry and runner-up Olly Murs instead.

X Factor duo John & Edward have reportedly signed a deal with Universal.

The Irish twins, who were dropped by Sony after only one single release, have been picked up by the rival label, according to Irish TV show Exposé.

Manager Louis Walsh insisted that the pair have a long future ahead of them, claiming that they are the real stars on the current X Factor tour.

"It's sold out, four nights in Dublin, four nights in Belfast, it's huge and it's all because of Jedward," he said. "It's the biggest tour in X Factor history and it's all about Jedward.

"Jedward then start their Irish tour and it's all sold out. They are so in demand. They haven't had a day off since they were booted off X Factor, which was the best thing that could have happened.

"They have got endorsements, they have TV ads, everyone wants to make a TV show with them. I've got a full diary for them. They are the real winners."

Jedward's debut single 'Under Pressure (Ice Ice Baby)' - a collaboration with rapper Vanilla Ice - entered the UK chart at number two last month before dropping to 12 a week later.

Louis Walsh has announced that Jedward Easter eggs will be launched soon.

Walsh, who manages the twins, explained that he is exploring various opportunities outside of music.

"I have TV ads lined up for them here and even Jedward Easter eggs are going on sale," he told Now.

Earlier this week, it emerged that the former X Factor stars had been dropped by Sony, but they later signed a deal with Universal.

Walsh has claimed that the change is "Sony's loss and Universal's gain".

Jedward have announced that their new single will be called 'All The Small Things'.

The former X Factor duo, made up of John and Edward Grimes, will release the song to promote their debut album Planet Jedward.

Despite having already released 'Under Pressure (Ice Ice Baby)' with Vanilla Ice, the pair dubbed the track on their Twitter page as "the debut single by John and Edward from our debut album Planet Jedward".

Describing the song, Edward wrote: "In the studio and ['All The Small Things'] is such a rock pop song! we were recording and we were rocking out and john punched me in the face (sic)." They later added that the track is about "young summer rock and fun".

Jedward's previous release peaked at number two on the singles chart, reportedly missing out on the top spot by just 24 copies.

X Factor stars Jedward have been voted the most pointless celebrities in the UK by a recent poll.

The twins, John and Edward Grimes, got 71 percent of the votes in the poll, followed by Jodie Marsh, Kerry Katona and Jack Tweed.

The poll's conductor told MSN: "TV reality shows are becoming so popular and, with the world of celebrity growing every day, it doesn't take much to become a Z-list star.

"The research shows that many of these celebrities are not respected because of their bad behaviour."

The duo recently announced their new single.

JEDWARD have signed up for a fly-on-the-wall show on ITV2 - taking over from Jordan after she left for Living TV.
Jedward: Home Alone will follow the twins as they leave their mum and try to look after themselves for a week.

They'll even get separate bedrooms for the first time.

ITV said: "The series will film their trial run at cutting their aprons strings.

"Without help from mum they'll have to get stuck into decorating, DIY, dining and maybe even dating.

Yes, dating - this we have to see.

On the downside, the tone-deaf pair will do some singing, too.

They said: "The show will give fans an insight into our world."

Can't wait.

Jedward reportedly claim to have earned more than £1 million each.

The X Factor duo scored a number two single earlier this year with 'Under Pressure (Ice Ice Baby)' and have signed a three-album deal with Universal.

When asked about Louis Walsh's claim that the pair would earn the cash, John apparently told the Daily Star: "We already have."

A spokesman for the 'All The Small Things' twins added: "I don’t know the exact figure but they are there.

"Life can’t get much better for them at the moment."

Jedward release their debut album Planet Jedward on July 26.

X Factor duo Jedward have debuted at No.1 on the Irish albums chart.

Their debut disc Planet Jedward - on which the identical twin brothers tackle hits by artists as diverse as Robbie Williams, the Beastie Boys and The Undertones - replaces Eminem's Recovery at the summit this week.

The album also features the pair's mash-up of Queen's 'Under Pressure' and Vanilla Ice's 'Ice Ice Baby', which topped the Irish singles chart in February, and their cover of Blink-182's 'All The Small Things', which debuts at number 21 this week.

Behind Jedward and Eminem, Florence and the Machine's Lungs holds steady at three, while Plan B's The Defamation of Strickland Banks rebounds from eleven to seven.

The second-highest new entry of the week comes from Professor Green, who lands at 18 with debut album Alive Till I'm Dead.

Planet Jedward is released in the UK on Monday.

Jedward are to launch their own fashion label, it has been revealed.

The Planet Jedward duo's clothing line, called Pop Icons, will be based on the style of artists like Michael Jackson and Freddie Mercury, reports The Sun.

Edward Grimes, 18, said: "Fashion is our big passion and our collection will look hot on the catwalk.

"We love the jackets worn by Michael Jackson and Freddie Mercury and think everybody will love to wear stuff like that. Our clothes will have lots of bold colours and cool patterns."

On the possibility of modelling their own collection, Grimes added: "We're signed to Next Models so we have experience. We know how to pose and walk, plus we've worked with some big-name photographers."

However, manager Louis Walsh is said to be rushing the release of the clothing line before the twins' fame fizzles out.

A source told the paper: "The boys' 15 minutes of fame are almost up so Louis will try and bring the clothes out quickly.

"The new series of The X Factor starts later this month - which is bound to produce another novelty act. Jedward will just be another forgotten reality TV reject."

Dublin Airport has been "renamed" Dublin Jedward Airport by Ryanair.

Ryanair launched a comedy survey after the Irish government announced last year that it would consider renaming the airport.

Today the airline announced that the X Factor stars had won the poll.

"Ryanair, Ireland’s favourite airline, today renamed Dublin Airport, Dublin Jedward Airport after a poll of over 10,000 passengers agreed that prices at Dublin airport rise faster than Jedward’s hair," a statement read.

The Planet Jedward twins reacted to the news on their Twitter page and called for the renaming to become official.

They wrote: "IF THE AIRPORT IS BEING NAMED AFTER US #JEDWARDAIRPORT WE ARE GOING TO BE ON TICKETS IS EVERYONE EXCITED WE ARE (sic)"

"John Lennon is an airport in Liverpool JFK is in New York and now Jedward Airport in Dublin," they added.

ITVJedward have signed an advertising deal with Nintendo, it has been revealed.

The X Factor twins have agreed to front a Christmas marketing campaign for the video games company in a deal worth £250,000, according to The Sun.

John and Edward Grimes are believed to be filming a video and posing for posters next week.

A source said: "They are still the number one choice for brands which appeal to kids. Nintendo have snapped them up for Christmas."

It was previously reported that the Planet Jedward duo have already amassed £1 million each.

The source continued: "The twins are pulling in £30k every time they turn up to parties and corporate gigs. Then they have record sales, a book deal, TV shows, sponsorship deals and a pantomime.

"But they don't spend any money. They live on tuna and sweetcorn and live at home when they are not in hotels."

X Factor's Jedward have confirmed to DS their intentions to be this year's Irish Eurovision entry.

The Grimes brothers claimed that they are planning to take their pop brand worldwide in 2011 by taking part in the TV talent competition.

"Right now, our main focus is on Eurovision. Yes, the UK needs to pick a good act this year because we're going to win it for Ireland," said John. "We're actually serious. We're in talks."

Edward added: "We're going to go worldwide. It's huge, Eurovision."

Their manager Louis Walsh has previously backed the twins to take part in the competition, arguing that they have the right "attitude" to reclaim the Eurovision crown for Ireland.

The twins revealed the news at a promotional event for Woolworths.co.uk, where they were part of a successful Guinness World Record-breaking attempt to create the largest game of pass the parcel.

Jedward were hiding inside a giant box dressed as Toy Story character Buzz Lightyear. The singers were delivered to competition winners in Manchester, following a record-breaking 1,125.01 mile tour of the UK for the giant parcel, which delivered over £10,000 of toys.

Joking about what other Guinness World Records they could break, John added: "We have been talking about that today. What other Guinness Records could we do? We thought about having the highest hair?

"We should have something on television where we have the most people in the world watching us having our hair cut. We want everyone to come to Wembley Stadium and watch us cutting our hair."

Jedward are being tipped as hot favourites to represent Ireland in the 2011 Eurovision song contest.

The former X Factor contestants, who will compete against four other acts to be Ireland's Eurovision entrants this May in the German city of Duesseldorf, have been installed as 8-1 favourites by bookies William Hill.

The brothers will perform on RTE's Late Late Show on February 11 where the winner will be decided.

Also in the mix, according to reports, are Nikki Kavanagh, The Vard Sisters, Don Mescall and an as-yet-unnamed new band.

The winner will be determined through a combination of a public vote and marks from a judging panel.

Kellogg's bosses are said to have recruited the former X Factor stars in a deal worth £180,000. They will film a TV advert in Los Angeles.

John Grimes told the News of the World: "When you walk into the shop all you will see is our faces and kids will be begging their parents to buy us. That's going to be cool."

The pair also revealed that they will front a Saturday morning children's show on CBBC this summer.
