Me and my partner went to the Bank today to see about a mortgage. All was going well. They said we could lend upto so much for a house THEN she clicked the final button and it said we were declined.

She says its 1 of 2 things.

Either, we are not on the electoral register, OR the flat we currently live in is blacklisted!

Now, since been home I've been on 192.com and we are infact on the database. But then, having typed into google 'what to do if your house is blacklisted' etc, people are saying your property cannot be blacklisted and it is infact just the person.

I am in no debt or anything, I was and still am very cross

Anyone else any advice/help?

And is it possible for the flat we live in to be blacklisted?

Can't be a flat, it is bricks and mortar. Can't blacklist brick and mortar. Must have something to do with previous tenants. But I am thinking logically here and that is not always applicable these days. Have you made sure that there is not a black mark against your name or that of your partmer? That seems to be the problem usually, connected with the address. Lots of new tenants get problems because of previous tenants at the address that they used to live at. Make sure they have the right name against the property :) Sorry, no other advice from me.

No me and my partner are both clean lol.

I have no idea what else is could be. The mortgage advisor did say the previous tenants of the flat could be a problem, but how do we solve that bloody problem.

See CAB about that, as soon as you can. That is what I was rambling on ... sorry, full of flu and medication and a glass of lovely red wine :o

Get your credit rating from experian first

It could be a simple thing like non-payment of council tax or anything like that. ~I would get the credit rating sorted out first before you start paniking.

I agree with your credit rating. Is it possible that someone has taken a credit card or loan out in you name without your knowlegde and run up debt on it?

If that turns up fine, go to a different bank.

If you get your credit rating report from Experian (and there are others too) as NB suggested above, you will be able to see exactly what the black mark is against you. You can then contact the credit agency(ies) and appeal and get them to change your rating if you've done nothing wrong. Sounds like it would be worth it to you.

As Perdita said above, visiting the CAB is probably your best first step.

I'm not in any debt though, thats the thing. I pay all my bills every month on time.

So it's probably to do with the flat we are renting.

As the others have said, get a record of your credit rating to check. Then you cam start sorting it all out
