Coronation Street actor Craig Gazey has signed to stay with the ITV soap for another year, Digital Spy can exclusively reveal.

The 27-year-old - who plays Weatherfield's resident butcher, gardener and window cleaner Graeme Proctor - recently inked a new deal which keeps him with the serial until at least March 2011.

Speaking to DS about extending his contract, Gazey said: "I've just signed another year's contract, so I'm definitely here now until at least March 2011. We were discussing options for Graeme to get a family but the main thing for me was how much Graeme was unrequited over his time on the Street. I basically pleaded with them that someone has to love him eventually."

He added: "It'd seem that a lot of the viewers have a fondness to Graeme, so it'd make sense for someone to see that on the Street. We have to change the dynamics of Graeme now."

Gazey has been shortlisted in the newcomer category at this year's National Television Awards.

Yeah, introduce his family and let him have lurve :wub:

I'm glad he's staying on the street and will have a love interest. I hope that they don't change his dynamics too much though.

Great that he's staying! I do wonder if Rosie will fall for him. If he's being there for her and supporting her over her Mum's illness especially.

Doubt it, she will try to get her claws into Nick. Graeme can't afford to keep her in the stye she would like to live

awww so glad he's staying. he's got a great dynamic with loads of people on the Street, love him with the older people like Norris and Roy

He's just loveable isn't he. I think Rosie has a soft spot for him but she doesn't want to admit it. He is the only one who would be there for her whenever she get's into trouble.

He is funny just hope he has some good storylines as I used to love Kirk until he faded away

I just find him really irritating, and not at all funny. Well occasionally, like once a month he says something funny.

Absolutely not yelling at you. Got a very sore throat, can only whisper at best of time :lol:
But would not yell at you never!!! Just can't understand you not liking my Graeme :heart: I think he is a great character :D

Hmm maybe Graeme is the marmite of characters. Either love him or hate him.. I personally rather hate him :p. Well that's a bit strong, but dislike alot.
