Golden Globe nominee Carey Mulligan and former Skins actor Nicholas Hoult are in the running for a "rising star" Bafta.

Twilight actress Kristen Stewart, Jesse Eisenberg and Tahar Rahim round off the list, which recognises five international actors and actresses whose talent has garnered acclaim from the British public.

Mulligan received a Golden Globe nod for best actress in a drama for her role in the acclaimed movie An Education, based on the memoirs of journalist Lynn Barber.

The star recently received the Hollywood breakthrough actress award at the 2009 Hollywood Film Festival, the British Independent Film Award for best actress and was named best actress by the National Board of Review and the Washington Film Critics Association for her role in the film.

Hoult enjoyed big movie success in the Hugh Grant film About a Boy, in which Hoult played a nerdy 12-year-old named Marcus.

While studying as a sixth former, he gained a lead role in the first two series of acclaimed E4 drama Skins.

This year sees him star in Tom Ford's directorial debut film A Single Man, released in February and fantasy epic Clash of the Titans, due out in March.

Stewart's acting career began at the age of eight, after an agent saw her perform in her school's Christmas play.

Her first major role was for the Panic Room, playing the sullen daughter of a divorced mother played by Jodie Foster.

In 2007, Stewart starred in Sean Penn's adaptation film Into the Wild - and in the same year it was announced that she had landed the role of Isabella ''Bella'' Swan in Twilight, based on Stephenie Meyer's best-selling vampire romance novel.

Stewart has also starred in the sequel, New Moon, and will reprise the role in Eclipse.

Eisenberg's career launched in 2002 when he starred in the independent film Roger Dodger, for which he was nominated for a Gotham award.

In 2009, Eisenberg played the lead role in Adventureland, a comedy directed by Greg Mottola, which premiered at the Sundance Film Festival.

He is filming The Social Network, in which he plays the role of Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg.

In 2008, Rahim shot to international prominence with his lead role in French film Un Prophete (A Prophet), about a young Arab man sent to a French prison where he becomes the mafia kingpin.

The film premiered at Cannes and won the coveted Palme d'Or.

Fluent in English, Algerian and his native French, Rahim will next be seen in The Eagle of the Ninth in a Gaelic-speaking role as the Seal Prince.

The nominations for the prize, titled the Orange Rising Star Award, were announced at Bafta headquarters today by last year's winner, Doctor Who star and film maker Noel Clarke.

The gong is the only prize at the Orange British Academy Film Awards to be voted for by the public.

Clarke, who was also on the selection jury for this year's nominations, said: ''Winning the Orange Rising Star Award in 2009 was the highlight of my year.

''The fact that the award is the only one voted for by the public made it even more special.''

Previous winners who have gone on to achieve critical acclaim also include James McAvoy in 2006, Eva Green in 2007 and Shia LaBeouf in 2008.

David Parfitt, chairman of Bafta, said: ''We are excited to be working with Orange again.

''The Orange Rising Star Award nominee list is as strong as ever and is sure to be one of the most anticipated awards of the night.''

The winner will be announced at the Orange British Academy Film Awards on Sunday, February 21.

Kimberley Walsh has secured a presenting role at the forthcoming Orange British Academy Film Awards later this month.

The Girls Aloud singer, who co-hosted the BBC Switch awards in December, will interview stars on the red carpet.

"I'm really excited to be presenting from the red carpet at this year's Orange British Academy Film Awards," Walsh said.

"The girls and I have walked many red carpets but this will be by far the most nerve-racking!

"I'll be bringing you interviews and gossip from the stars as well as looking behind the scenes at the event."

The Orange British Academy Film Awards is boradcast on MTV at 6.30pm on February 22.
