Strictly Come Dancing may be split up with a Saturday and Sunday night show this year, say reports.

According to The Sun, BBC bosses want the programme to return to the format that was used in 2008 to avoid overly long Saturday shows.

However, bosses apparently want the Sunday instalment to be filmed live, which may cause problems due to financial implications.

"We really want to take Strictly back to a Sunday night, but we would have to do it live and that takes more money, which is pretty tight at the moment," said a source.

Last year's Strictly Come Dancing began with one single show, which on one occasion aired for two and a half hours, but returned to a two show format towards the end of the run.

When they had the Saturday and Sunday night shows last year. It was all filmed on the Saturday night. So I don't see the point of splitting it into two nights.

Liza Minnelli has been tipped to join the Strictly Come Dancing judging panel for the next series.

According to The Mirror, the show's bosses are considering recruiting the Cabaret star as a replacement for Alesha Dixon, who joined the BBC programme last year.

It is thought that producers believe Dixon did not appeal to the "younger viewers she was brought in to attract" during her stint as a judge.

A source told the newspaper: "Alesha got off to a very shaky start but did improve. Despite this, her future is believed to be hanging by a thread.

"Liza has international appeal and real star billing. She is a singer and dancer, and Hollywood through and through. Her experience in the showbiz industry would be a real coup - plus she has the personality to match."

Producers are also said to be considering a five-person panel which would allow both Dixon and Minnelli to judge the dances. Another rumoured option is to have Minnelli in an advisory role in the style of choreographer Brian Friedman on The X Factor.

they should just give this show the can, it can never compete with the X factor so why bother trying? They really scraped the barell of "celebrity" last year.

Scrapping SCD or not? :hmm: In Harry Hill fashion, there is only one way to find out: FIGHT
I never watched the last series because of X Factor, there is only so much reality tv once can take but I know it is very popular and maybe, just for once, common sense prevails () and the transmission timing could be adjusted so people can watch both shows.
