David Hasselhoff has quit America's Got Talent after four seasons on the show's judging panel.

The former Baywatch actor announced that he had decided to leave the NBC reality contest in order to concentrate on a new TV project.

In a statement released to People, Hasselhoff explained: "I am proud that I was part of making America's Got Talent the number one rated show for the past four summers. It's been a rewarding experience and now I'm thrilled to be able to follow my dream to do my own TV show, which will be announced very shortly."

Show sources have reportedly indicated that a replacement will now be sought to join panellists Sharon Osbourne and Piers Morgan when the programme's fifth season launches in the summer.

A spokesperson for NBC said: "David's been an integral part of the success of America's Got Talent and we are sad to see him go. We wish him all the best with his new show."

America's Got Talent has launched an online audition process for people hoping to appear on the show, says The Hollywood Reporter.

NBC and the show's producers have reportedly teamed up with YouTube to allow potential acts to upload their audition videos online.

Once the videos have been submitted, the producers will select their top 40 to be posted on a special YouTube channel that allows users to vote for their favourites.

The top voted act will perform live on the competition, as well as eleven other acts selected by the producers from the online submissions.

"This audacious new twist to the audition process offers our viewers not only a priceless golden ticket to get onto the biggest stage in the country in the middle of the competition, but also the opportunity for a thrilling live show where anything can happen," said Paul Telegdy, NBC's executive vice president of alternative programming.

"No other show would dare to take on this challenge."

America's Got Talent will return to NBC on June 1.

PIERS Morgan has confirmed that he is sticking with America's Got Talent for another three years.
The chat show host is to juggle his new job replacing Larry King on CNN with the judging role on the ratings-hit.

Piers, 45, told US chat king Jay Leno that he will stay on the talent contest, which he has appeared on since its launch in 2006.

It is not yet clear whether his new contract as one of America's top interviewers will clash with his role on Britain's Got Talent.

Piers has said his dream guests would include Nelson Mandela and ex-US President George W Bush.

HOW'S this for a ratings winner? An incredible 400MILLION people tuned in to see the launch of China's Got Talent on Sunday night.
