Details of BBC One cookery show Masterchef's sixth series have been confirmed.

Judges Gregg Wallace and John Torode will return to test 132 more amateur cooks in February, when the show will air in a new primetime slot for eight weeks.

New twists include the comeback contestants facing a new palate test, where they have to recognise ingredients cooked by chef John Torode, and some "brutal skills tests" in the quarter-finals.

During the semi-finals, the chefs will be challenged with cooking at the WI HQ, preparing a banquet at the Tower of London and travelling to the Rajasthan desert in India for three days in 100 degree heat, where they will make a meal for a Maharajah. One of their final challenges will be to cook a meal for one of the greatest living chefs Alain Ducasse.

The show's executive editor Karen Ross said: "MasterChef has consistently produced the most successful winners in any UK competition. Two have opened their own acclaimed restaurants, six have gone on to work in top Michelin stared kitchens and over 60 have left their careers to live their foodie dream - changing their lives forever. This series sees only the best cooks survive - there is nowhere to hide!"

Masterchef returns on Wednesday, February 24 on BBC One.

I have missed seeing John try and fit a whole fork in his mouth and Greg lick the spoons!

Roz, Dhruv and Stuart have reached this week's MasterChef quarter-final.

The trio were voted through last night by judges John Torode and Gregg Wallace in the first two heats of the week.

Dhruv, 33, served up pan-fried halibut with sautéed potatoes, spinach and a saffron and clam velouté, followed by an amaretto and dark chocolate torte with almond cream and passionfruit jus. "The flavours are absolutely superb," said Wallace about the halibut. Torode described Dhruv's torte as "seriously beautiful".

Clothes shop owner Roz was also successful in the first heat with scallops on samphire and spinach purée accompanied by a passionfruit vinaigrette. Her pudding was a chocolate and hazelnut mousse with an orange and poppy seed tuile.

In the second heat, 23-year-old media sales worker Stuart was the only victor. For the Final Test, he plated up pan-fried sea bass with a prawn, fennel, fine bean and orange salad. His main dish was lamb cutlets with pea and mint risotto. "A good looking plate, beautifully cooked," said Wallace about the first dish. Speaking about the main meal, Torode said: "Every single part is cooked brilliantly."

The MasterChef heats continue tonight at 8pm on BBC One.

It's weird this season. Still good, just sometimes they take 2 to the final (per 3), and sometimes none . You just never know what's going to happen!

I like that about this season.. sometime they are not good enough so why should they take any... and sometime you have 2 who are brilliant so unfair not to take both

Yeah, I agree, it's a good idea. Still weird though, after being used to the other way .
