CORRIE is poised for an explosive child kidnap plot - as little Simon Barlow is whisked away by evil George Wilson.
George snatches his grandson from the school gates, leaving his dad Peter at his wits' end.

Peter (Chris Gascoyne) calls the cops and goes to George's house to confront him.

Raffles star ... Anthony Valentine
The old man, played by Raffles star Anthony Valentine, goads him into losing his rag.

So Peter lunges at him - and ends up getting arrested after pushing away a cop who tries to intervene.

In tear-jerking scenes, Simon is left sobbing for his dad - and Peter must watch from the police van as his son is left in the crook's clutches.

By the time Peter is released, evil George has already gone into hiding in Blackpool with the boy.

In the dramatic scenes to air in March, George uses his sway with the Weatherfield authorities to get legal custody over Simon (Alex Bain).

But will he succeed in his wicked plan to steal Simon away for good?

We knew that George had a hidden agenda with regards to Simon, but I thought he would go the legal route. After all, the Barlows have a closet full of skeletons. How could he hope to succeed by kidnapping little Simon?

I'm glad that Ken will be proved right, but hope he won't be smug about it.

We don't know yet what type of skeleton's are in George's closet, so perhaps that is why he is not using the legal way. Surely Simon's dad would be the preferred choice for guardianship anyway rather than an elder gentleman who was estranged from his daughter and who Simon only recently got to know. :hmm:

Yeah, I didn't think it was likely that George would succeed in a custody battle - except, perhaps, if Peter was back on the booze big-time.

You're right that we don't know what skeletons are in George's closet yet. I can't wait to find out more as this story unfolds.

It's sort of surprised me. Suspected George sometimes, but hoped I was wrong.
Simon is really great. Cute, and can act too!

From Kim Crowther interview onThis Morning:

"Peter has a lot of demons to fight this year," she confirmed. "He will continue struggling with his alcoholism, but I can reveal that Simon will be taken away from Peter and be placed in the care of grandfather, George. The big question is, will Peter ever get Simon back?"

That sounds like George gets temporary custody of Simon. I think this could be a really interesting storyline. I like both Peter and Simon and will be upset if (when?) Peter goes back on the booze and loses Simon.

Wouldntt Ken and Deirdre get custody first instead of George???????????

Dazzle
11-01-2010, 15:55
You'd think so, wouldn't you? They probably would in real life, but George has the money for expensive lawyers and knows all of Ken and Deirdre's dirty secrets. Plus it looks like George will soon be paying for Simon's private school. He could come across to a judge as a far more upstanding and responsible person than Ken and Deirdre.

I suppose we'll just have to wait and see exactly how the writers justify George getting custody of Simon.

It is easy to see why he will get custody, Peter will start drinking booze again. I want to know how Simon gets back to Peter, I am sure he will, I hope so, anyway

Something to do with the new bar, perhaps. The stress of a new business coupled with being surrounded by alcohol.

Coronation Street's forthcoming child disappearance plot "bears absolutely no resemblance" to the Madeleine McCann tragedy three years ago, a show source has confirmed to Digital Spy.

Earlier today, it emerged that Peter Barlow's (Chris Gascoyne) 6-year-old son Simon, played by Alex Bain, will go missing in Blackpool later this year, sparking fears that he has been snatched.

The incident will occur when Simon's grandfather George (Anthony Valentine) takes him on holiday to the seaside resort after becoming convinced that his alcoholic father Peter is an unfit parent.

However, while taking a stroll on Blackpool promenade, George and his wife Eve (Sabina Franklyn) take their eyes off Simon for a short amount of time and soon discover that he has vanished. Police are then called to investigate the matter.

A tabloid newspaper today compared the storyline to the disappearance of Madeleine McCann, who vanished from a holiday apartment in the Portuguese resort of Praia da Luz in May 2007 while her parents dined at a nearby restaurant.

However, a Coronation Street source this morning told DS: "The upcoming Barlow story bears no resemblance whatsoever to the Madeleine McCann tragedy three years ago.

"The viewer will see Simon walk off on his own and there is a big search for him which is obviously distressing for his family - but the situation is resolved quite quickly."

At the time of the McCann incident, producers at the ITV soap took the decision to drop its baby abduction plot, which would have seen Freddie Peacock snatched from the family home by Claire and Ashley's mentally unstable friend Casey Carswell.

Following a review, show bosses rewrote and re-filmed some aspects of the story in order not to distress the McCann family. The resulting rewrite saw baby Freddie go missing following a fire at the Peacocks' and later turn up at the local park.

The Weatherfield source added: "It was the right decision three years ago not to run with the Peacock storyline because it was so similar to those events in Portugal."

Several weeks after Madeleine's disappearance, BBC soap EastEnders decided to pull its baby abduction story, opting to "substantially rewrite" and re-film the climax to the penultimate chapter of Dawn Swann and Dr May Wright's story.

The plot would have seen May run off with Dawn's baby shortly after her birth. Instead, May tried and failed to persuade Dawn to hand over the newborn before being arrested and ultimately sectioned.

HERE'S Peter Barlow on the wrong side of the law again - but this time it's not for bigamy or boozing.

He ends up in handcuffs after assaulting son Simon's grandad George Wilson (Anthony Valentine).

Peter (Chris Gascoyne) lashes out after George tries to get custody of the boy.

Little Simon (Alex Bain) then attacks cops as they bundle his dad into their car.

And in tear-jerking scenes, viewers will see Peter being driven away as sobbing Simon watches through George's window.

This storyline sounds quite traumatic. I feel so sorry for Peter, but wish he'd listened to Ken and hadn't fallen for George's charm.

But George is behind the kidnap yes?

Perdita
28-01-2010, 10:30
No, it is not a kidnap, the storyline was changed. Simon just gets lost but is found safe and sound. This has nothing to do with George. I think he refuses to return Simon once hi goes to the private school, that is where custody battle starts.
