Channel 4 did a survey asking the general public and TV critics what they thought were the top twenty shows of this decade.

Here is the list:

01) Top Gear
02) The Apprentice
03) Doctor Who
04) Britains Got Talent
05) QI
06) The X Factor
07) The Simpsons
08) The Office
09) Planet Earth
10) Life On Mars
11) FRIENDS
12) Harry Hill's TV Burp
13) Shameless
14) Grand Designs
15) Gavin and Stacey
16) Coronation Street
17) Spooks
18) Strictly Come Dancing
19) I'm A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here
20) Dragons Den

What's everyones thoughts? I associate Friends and The Simpsons with the nineties, so I'm surprised they made the list. The Simpsons' best episodes were in the 90s. Grand Designs was a weird entry and I don't think Top Gear deserved the number 1 spot.

I'm glad Spooks made the list though. Surprised Big Brother didn't make it on there! Like it or not, its influence has been huge.

Spooks at 17?! It should be in the top five, it's far better than the Simpsons.

The Simpsons and Friends are in the list so I'm guessing not. Which begs the question, how did they get there over the likes of 24 and Lost?

Exactly. Most of the best shows of the decade have originated from the USA so I can't take this survey seriously
