Has anybody got plans for any nice holidays next year? I am looking forward to going to Spain again for some sunshine and warmth at Easter time. :)

well apart from the bog standard week in Devon with the family I doubt I'll be going anywhere else next year - spending all my money on gig tickets - Rihanna/Pink & Lady Gaga. Will be a busy and expensive year for me, but they'll be worth it and I'll probably enjoy that more than a holiday!

Typical man!

Have you got a side car for your wife and children?

(My hubby has a bike and goes off for 'tours'. One of my brothers-in-law has a motoguzzi and side car and he used to take his children and wife when the girls were younger).

Fair enough - as long as the OH gets to spend a week in a nice spa when you get back! :)

Nowhere I don't think. My dad wants to come back to Australia to Ballarat (near Melbourne - google Sovereign Hill) to go gold digging with a couple of his old gardening employees and this guy he met who works at Sovereign Hill who gold digs. I think I'll leave them too it though. Don't fancy staying in the same place for a month! Plus it will be winter. :p

I'll probably try and work over the summer, get a bit of money saved up.

Will be going to the USA for 7 weeks, no surprise here, but if I am honest...since traveling with my partner who is not American, I get to see so much more of my own country than I would if I had still been in the USA.. BONUS is getting to see my grandbabies

I have a couple of questions. Dates to be arranged but will be before the school summer holidays, about June time.

1. Where is the best place to go on the Eurostar? Obviously not too expensive as I don't have a lot of money.

2. Should I book accommodation through Eurostar or somewhere else? If so, are there any cheap hotel sites for Europe?

3. Would it be cheaper to go as a foot passenger on a ferry or fly to somewhere on the continent rather than Eurostar? Obviously it will take longer but if it costs half the price then I'd take that option. I'm not after a specific cost but just which is generally the cheaper option.

Katy

i tend to use hostelworld for cheap places to stay, i see it more as a bed for the night, but i have stayed in a few and i have been really pleased w ith the accomodation.

In regards to the travel just shop around, i have had really cheap flights in the past but also if you get a coach that can be good as it has the ferry crossing incluided in theprice.

We booked our flight with SAS this year, since last year we tasted the luxury of Buisness class seats and we were SPOILED,, so my fella decided we were going Biz class this year to the states, plus we got a letter from HERTZ,, saying we have been given an upgrade to a better car..so this will be a comfy 8 week vacation to the USA ,,I know it sounds boring that we go to the USA every year, but hey gang my family is there and my grand sons..and my 89 year old mom..
Hope every one who just took off for vacation has a wonderful time, :cheer::clap::D

I don't think it sounds boring. There's so much to see and do in America, it's like a whole world in itself. Which states are you visiting this year?

I'll let you know what I got up to when I'm back! I dread to think haha.. there's apparently a really good sex museum that everyone wants to go too! and I plan to visit the Van Gogh museum too.

Hi Jodi :) I am going on 15th August.. I take it you and your friends will be gone by then? We could have met up! It would have been a coincidence if we were both there the same time as each other! Have a nice time.

Davey my photo shoot for my calendar is on August 15th,, so no I will not be in A'dam that day LOL,, but did U forget I live 28 miles by train from Amsterdam LOL
The Sex Museum is cool its like 4 stories high.. has all sorts of wild stuff to see,, they even have the worlds FIRST SEX TOY store in there,, the stuff is WILD, the Red Light district is very interesting,, be sure to keep your passport and money in your front pocket cos the picket pockets are really bad in that area,,, remember i live in Holland so I am not gonna steer you wrong...if you are into the gay life style u guys will have a terrific time..the hotels are cheap in that area,, but again be careful what u leave in the hotel room...The Van Gogh museum is really interesting,,you can get one of those tape recorder things to walk thru the museum with that is in English, if U have time go to the ANNE FRANKE HUIS..If u run into some trouble and need some one e mail me and I will send U our phone number

UP to 50,000 Brits are facing summer holiday misery with the collapse of a tour operator.

Around 16,000 Goldtrail customers were abroad when company went into administration on Friday afternoon, while a further 2,000 were scheduled to fly from the UK this weekend.

As the school holiday season gets under way, it is estimated 50,000 people booked to travel with Goldtrail, who specialise in trips to Greece and Turkey, could be affected over the summer months.

Authorities sought to reassure holidaymakers they could claim back money lost on bookings while alternative flights and accommodation were also available.

The Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) said it was making arrangements to fly customers home at the end of their holiday under its Atol (Air Travel Organiser's Licensing) scheme.

No outbound Goldtrail flights were running from UK airports and people planning to set off on holiday were advised to check first, the aviation regulator added.

Holidaymakers spoke of their anger and disappointment at their trips to Turkey and Greece being put in jeopardy.

Unwitting travellers checked in for a flight to Turkey on Friday night before learning just hours later that the trip was cancelled.

A Glasgow Airport spokesman said 180 passengers were due to travel to the resort of Bodrum.

Holidaymakers watched departure boards announce repeated delays before their 8.45pm flight was cancelled at around midnight.

The Glasgow Airport spokesman said: "People had checked in then the company went into administration."

Joanna Farnan and her friend Mark Mclay, who were among those who were due to fly out of Glasgow Airport on Friday night, said passengers were met by police at the departure gate and warned to hand back any duty free they had purchased.

Ms Farnan told the BBC she was "pretty disappointed" and that it would take up to 12 months to get her money back.

Mr Mclay said: "We were pretty calm at the time but obviously a bit gutted.

"It was just really a shame for families. You could tell you had parents trying to explain to them (children) why they were packing their bags up again."

In a statement issued on its website on Friday night, the CAA said: "The CAA has taken steps to protect customers booked with Goldtrail Travel Limited after the company ceased trading.

"Goldtrail Travel Ltd, trading as Goldtrail Holidays, Goldtrail Travel and Sunmar, held Atol licence 4684 and was based in New Malden, Surrey. It operated flights and holiday packages from many UK airports to Turkey and Greece. It sold mainly through travel agents.

"The CAA, under its Atol scheme, is making arrangements for customers abroad to travel home at the end of their holidays."

The CAA said those already abroad on flight inclusive holidays would be repatriated back to the UK.

"All inbound flying from Turkey and Greece will operate as scheduled over the weekend, and up to and including Monday July 19," it added. "Passengers who are due to return to the UK are advised to go to the airport as originally scheduled."

Information on inbound flights from Tuesday will appear on the CAA website later.

The CAA advised passengers who are due to go on holiday with Goldtrail to contact their travel agent.

Details on how to claim a refund will be placed on the website tomorrow, according to the CAA.

Goldtrail was a medium-sized independent tour operator with around 150,000 customers in total, according to Abta spokesman Sean Tipton.

"If people's summer holiday has been cancelled they would need to rebook their arrangements," he said.

"But there is still some availability in Greece and Turkey.

"If people booked through an Abta travel agent they will probably be looking into that already."

Barrhead Travel founder Bill Munro said he had long-standing misgivings about Goldtrail and said its collapse was "an accident waiting to happen".

A queue formed outside the company's office in Glasgow's Oswald Street as desperate travellers sought to book new holidays.

Goldtrail was criticised in a BBC Watchdog report broadcast last year but it defended itself against the claims saying the "majority" of its clients were happy with their holidays.

Goldtrail customers can call the CAA on 0203 4410846 for information.
