Jonathan Ross has reportedly agreed to have his current BBC salary slashed by half.

The chatshow host's annual pay packet is now likely to be £3 million rather than £6 million under a new deal which will come into effect next year, The Sun claims.

A source said: "Jonathan is happy to stay at the BBC and is fully aware he needs to take a pay cut. He has offered to take a 50% pay cut and will be committed to his TV and radio shows."

However, it is thought that BBC director general Mark Thompson has yet to finalise Ross's new contract, leading to speculation that his salary could be reduced further.

Ross's current £18 million three-year deal is expected to expire in July 2010. Reports suggest that his new arrangement will run for two years.

Does he just have one tv show and one radio show? That's still a gross overpayment for what is essentially part time work.

I can't watch Jonathon Ross - he makes me cringe. He's ridiculously overpaid even at half the money.

I agree. He's one of the worst presenters the BBC employ.

CHAT show king Jonathan Ross last night said he was HAPPY to have his pay slashed by the BBC, telling TV Biz: "I don't do this for the money."

The Sun told yesterday how the floppy-haired star, 49, had volunteered to accept a 50 per cent cut to his £6million-a-year BBC deal.

BBC top brass - who were looking for cuts of 60 per cent - are now deciding whether to accept the offer and give the TV veteran a new two-year deal.

Multi-millionaire Wossy said he hoped the Beeb would have him back when his current £18million three-year deal ends next July.

The Friday Night With Jonathan Ross presenter, who also reviews films for the Beeb and has a Radio 2 show, said: "I love being at the BBC. I've been very loyal to them and they have been very loyal to me."

The star, who was suspended last year after making a lewd phone call to actor Andrew Sachs with pal Russell Brand, added: "I have been very proud of myself at the BBC.

"Apart from that one mistake - the infamous Sachsgate incident - I think I have served them well.

"And even then I tried my best to make amends. It has never been about the money for me. I love doing the talk show, I love doing the radio show and I love doing the film show.

"I will be happy to accept whatever offer is on the table. If they want me to stay I'll take whatever they think is a fair offer. I'm not negotiating with them.

"I'm saying, 'If you want me to stay, I'm here'. Really I would like to stay at the BBC so the ball is in their court."

He said if Beeb bosses didn't renew his contract he may take two years off - and let his wife pay for their lavish lifestyle.

His missus Jane Goldman is fast becoming a major name in film circles as a screenwriter.

Wossy, who first became a chat show host on Channel 4 in the 1980s, said: "I do understand that it is difficult and there are things that have been associated with me that are difficult - none of which were done on purpose.

"If for any reason they feel I can't carry on then I'll understand. It would be sad if the BBC didn't want me but it would not be the end of the world.

"I've just started writing a comic book and am about to sell the film rights to a major studio. That's what I've wanted to do since I was a kid - write comics.

"So I might well take a couple of years off and do that and I'll be happy. There are lots of things I could be doing and also my wife's career as a screenwriter has taken off and she is incredibly successful so really we're very lucky."

The dad-of-three denied earning £6million a year.

But he refused to say how exactly much he was on.

I doubt he would do it for free because he loves it so much and with his price tag, he can afford the pay cut

How lucky is he not to have to worry about taking a 50% pay cut, or even losing his job!
