View Full Version : What have you learnt from Soapboards?
Just a random thread really.
What have you learnt from your time on Soapboards? Have you learnt anything from the good people here? Is there anything that you would like to learn from members?
I've come to the realisation that quite a few new members fancy NB when they start posting :p I can't quite figure it out. And also, don't use bleach and wear your favourite t shirt at the same time :(
Yes, the past three years have been very a productive way of wasting time :rotfl:
It is great getting to know people that you may never have met in your daily life. People from different places, of differing ages and backgrounds.
If I am honest in 'real' life most of my friends are white, heterosexual, middle class and middle aged. None of them are religious.
I do work with people from all over the world, but I socialise mainly with people just like me.
I find soapboards a really interesting mix, and it is great to be able to interact with people without prejudice. Although over time you do learn a lot about posters, initially you are not biased by visual and audio assumptions.
I have found it really useful hearing how teenagers interact with their parents.
I have two teenage boys, and the elder, who is nearly 18 doesn't communicate with me very much and hearing other people describe their relationship with their parents has helped me to understand that this is a normal part of growing up.
That pesky teens from 5 years ago can grow up to be sensible adults

Indeed! :)
And those who didnt have long since disappeared into the ether

Or care to name to names? :)
Im still a teenager by the way!! And im not 12 like PB always says
I dont really know what Ive learnt
Like Trinity said, its been great to talk to people form a wider range of backgrounds and different places that you wouldnt usually talk to
Actually I have leanrt to be more bold when im talking for example with my opinions and stuff cos when I first joined I really didnt say much but also in my own life (outside of the boards) I think ive become more opinionated and express them :)
And gerneally just being able to talk to more people and confide in them - theres still a few things that people on here only know about me, not even my own friends know
Just wanted to add - it appears I get on really well with the welsh folk :p
My flatmate, only girl I share with as well, is from south wales and we get on really well, its like we are close friends already :)

I've learnt no matter how much you try, you can't get rid of Soapboards :p Ha kidding, I didn't try.
No matter how long you don't come on for, you'll always come back; even if you no longer watch TV!

I've learnt to be more mature and to be more open minded when it comes to other people's viewpoints. When I first joined, I was a bit immature going off topic all the time and using text speak.. I feel like I've grown up on here.
I've learnt that some people love who i am. To consider other people's views not just my own. I've matured alot is well over these 4/5 years i've been on.
