Walford takes its first big step into the wider world of the web as the online spin-off series, EastEnders: E20, begins, introducing four new faces – Fatboy (Ricky Norwood), Leon Small (Sam Attwater), Mercy Olubunmi (Bunmi Mojekwu) and Zsa Zsa Carter (Emer Kenny).
The foursome crash into the Square seeking solace from family life. With nowhere to live and no one else to turn to, they begin to depend on one another for support. Squatting together at 89b George Street, the secrets that drove them from their homes are slowly revealed. The highs and lows of their shared lives cement their friendship and the group becomes a force to be reckoned with.
In the first webisode, Zsa Zsa hurtles into the Square on the run from her mum's boyfriend, Andy. He thinks she's inside 89b George Street and he dumps all her stuff there and waits for her outside. But she's not there – Leon and Lucy Beale are inside. When Leon hears a row outside he jumps in to protect Zsa Zsa. Annoyed at this gesture, Lucy walks off in a huff.
Across the road, Mercy and Fatboy make a quick exit from the community centre where Fatboy's outlandish proposals to encourage more young people to the church has humiliated them both. As the pair walk past 89b, discarded bags of clothes catch Fatboy's eye. To Mercy's horror, he takes all the bags.
Leon – who is searching for Zsa Zsa – bumps into Fatboy and Mercy. With Fatboy brandishing Zsa Zsa's belongings, he persuades them to help look for her. Just as Fatboy spots Zsa Zsa in the market, Andy's car screeches round the corner and the group make a dash for 89b. Zsa Zsa has a key and they make it inside. Recovering together from their ordeal, Mercy slips out of the room to face up to a task she has been putting off all day...
So its just going to have some of the EE cast in?

EastEnders' online spinoff drama E20 continues tomorrow night on the soap's official website, so ahead of the next instalment, here's a quick Q&A with Bunmi Mojekwu who plays Mercy Olubunmi.
How is E20 different from the main show?
"It's grittier and fresher than the main show. It tackles a lot of issues in terms of what each character goes through and it makes you reflect and sympathise with them. It's like watching your friends on TV really!"
Do you think online drama is the way forward?
"Yeah, definitely. The internet's taken over now hasn't it? It's so much more convenient. I don't really have time to sit down and watch everything on TV, so when I sit at the computer, I just catch up with everything on there. It's the way to go - it's more interactive."
Do you think online communities are important?
"Very important. They're the people who can judge whether a show's good or not. They obviously know what they're talking about because they're discussing soap all the time."
How would you describe your character?
"Mercy's very strong-willed and bound within her faith. Her best attribute is that she's very motherly and takes people under her wing to look after them. Her worst is that she takes the world on her shoulders and you just want to tell her, 'You don't have to worry about about, you can't deal with it alone'. Mercy takes too much on."
What happens to Mercy throughout the series?
"Mercy's going through what young teenage girls are going through - trying to find herself and make the right decisions. Across the first few eps, we see her battling with everything that's going on and trying to make sense of it all. She has a big secret, too…"
Mercy's parents recently returned to Nigeria - does that play a big part in her character's development?
"Yeah, she was very close to her parents but they just upped and left. Mercy felt really abandoned and out of place. That really affected her - there was nobody for her to talk to after that. Her grandma's really old school and old fashioned, so it's difficult for her."
Are you a little disappointed that yours is the only character that doesn't transition into the main show?
"I thought to myself 'that wasn't the plan' and I knew what the plan was from the beginning, so I just has to think 'that's just the way it is'. If I was meant to go into the main show, then I would have done. Obviously I'd have loved to but for someone like my character, it'll be the support of the viewers that decide her fate. I don't feel upset or anything, I just thought that it's the way these things go."
The door's been left open for her, though, hasn't it?
"Yeah, definitely. In the beginning, I don't think they saw the strength of Mercy and then as I got into it, they really started to see that she has an impact and that she could go on and have a story. The door's right open!"
Across the series, who's been your favourite main cast member to film with?
"Adam Woodyatt was hilarious and the guy who plays Lucas, Don Gilet, was really fun to work with, too. Hardly anybody gets my name right - it's Bumni with a silent 'n', so Don Gilet started saying, 'So it's Bu-shh-me'. I'd never heard that before, so I'll tell everyone that story."
Ahead of the fourth outing of EastEnders: E20 being uploaded to the BBC soap's official website this evening, here's a brief chat with the second star of the show, Ricky Norwood, who plays gangsta wannabe Arthur 'Fatboy' Chubb.
What's it like being part of E20?
"It's fantastic being on the show. I never thought EastEnders would be possible for me. It's a bit surreal, a bit like a dream when you're walking around the set. EastEnders has always been on in my house, so to finally be part of something this big is awesome."
How is E20 different from the main show?
"It's different for a number of reasons. It's shot differently for a start - that's the biggest thing you notice. On the main show, the cameras are usually on a track or smooth, whereas E20 was filming with four cameras that are handheld. It's shot very edgily and with loads of energy. Also, the scripts have been written by people aged between 18 and 22, so there's a whole new aspect of East London life being portrayed through that."
What's the feel of it?
"Energetic, fast-paced and young. The energy that comes with younger people comes across on camera. Also, the complexity of young people is played out, too. Although someone might be brash and very outgoing, they can be very vulnerable inside."
Do you think online drama is the way forward?
"It's definitely an exciting way to show drama. In today's day and age, technology's moving as fast as anything. A lot of people are online and a good proportion of people have computers. I usually go home and stick on iPlayer after a day's work and catch up on my favourite shows. Online programmes are accessible when you want them, so they're not scheduled. It allows viewers to experience drama any time they want."
Do you think online communities are important?
"Definitely. I don't really see the difference between online communities and the terrestrial community, though. Most people have grown up with TV and the internet's just an extension of that now. Online communities are definitely important, but it's just a progression."
How would you describe your character?
"With Fatboy, he loved to talk a lot. He's a wannabe, too. He wants to be a gangsta at times, he wants to be street, a caring person, a player, a womaniser, the businessman… There are so many things that he wants to be and that shifts depending on the situation. He always has a plan - the one with the quick ideas to solve problems. There are so many parts to him - he's not limited to certain characteristics."
You're one of the three going into the main show - how does Fatboy transition across?
"At the beginning, I only thought it was going to be for E20 and it was only when I got the call to say I had the part that they told me I'd be going into the main show. There's an initial three-month contract and depending on how successful everything is will depend on what happens afterwards. There's a possibility of a six-month contract."
Who's been your favourite main show character/actor to work with?
"It has to be Rudolph Walker and Adam Woodyatt. They're fantastic to play against."

is it any good i havnt watched it yet?
EastEnders: E20 cast member Bunmi Mojekwu has been signed for the main BBC One show, it has been confirmed.
The 20-year-old, who plays Mercy Olubunmi in the online Walford spin-off, was the only member of the main E20 cast not to be immediately picked up to transition across into the primary terrestrial episodes.
However, producers were so impressed by the strength and reaction to the character that they decided to write her into the main show alongside her teen counterparts Sam Attwater (Leon), Ricky Norwood (Fatboy) and Emer Kenny (Zsa Zsa).
Speaking of her signing, executive producer Diederick Santer said: "I'm pleased to announce that Bunmi will be following her E20 colleagues into EastEnders later this year.
"When I saw the completed episodes of E20 I knew I wanted Mercy in the big show too. Mercy's also been a huge hit with E20 viewers - she's funny, warm, sensitive and rather mysterious."
He added: "I'm delighted Bunmi will be bringing those qualities to the wider EastEnders audience."
Speaking to DS earlier this month, Mojekwu said: "In the beginning, I don't think they saw the strength of Mercy and then as I got into it, they really started to see that she has an impact and that she could go on and have a story."
It is believed that she has been contracted for six months, the same period of time as Attwater, Norwood and Kenny.
Meanwhile, combined viewing figures for EastEnders: E20 episodes and supporting content have staggered show bosses. Between January 8 and January 21, E20 material available via the official EastEnders website and the iPlayer platform has received 1.7 million views.
Of the numbers, Santer commented: "I'm knocked out by these figures! For our little side project, something that started life as an experiment, to go so big is very exciting. I'm delighted in particular that the 13 young London writers who wrote the series have reached such an audience with their first professional work."
