View Full Version : Winter 2009
Just had a look on the internet to see the weather forecast for next weekend and there is meant to be snow where I live. Over Christmas, the forecast is for -14 C at night  and barely making 0 C during the day. :cartman:
I imagine it is similar in the UK, I will be in Yorkshire and Merseyside for Christmas. Better pack plenty of warm clothing.

Not as cold Perdy... Germany temperature hit much lower than in UK/Ireland.. At christmas in Germany I would get around -7 and snow.. in Dublin it would be between 0 - 7 degrees and raining... but yeah.. bring warm clothes and an umbrella
A strong umbrella, windy and wet seems to be a constant here, although today is cold, bright and clear.
Shame it will be dark when I leave work.

Which part of Yorkshire? It's always freezing up there during winter. Not as cold as Germany but it's still very cold. The mornings are beautiful though, waking up to frosts and watching the sun rise over the fields. Can't wait to go home.
Huddersfield :) Not sure we are staying the night, OH is in charge of visits, I just go along for the ride
That's on the other side of the county to where I am. Can't say I've ever been to Huddersfield although I've passed through it on the train.
Hope you have fun in cold, wintery Yorkshire :p
You could meet up with NB!
Does he live in Huddersfield? I have never been there and I am looking forward to going.
We've already had hailstones

It has turned very cold now where I live but no snow just yet, although it was forecast. I am sure there will be some by the end of the week. As long as it does not snow before Thursday, it will be fine with me, I finish work on Wednesday and then don't have to start driving very early in the morning. :)

We've got wintery showers today but some places have snow lying. More snow forecast for the weekend. Thank goodness my Christmas shopping is finished.
It was supposed to snow here for the past couple of days but so far it has been too cold. Daytime around -2 at the mo. It can't last though and I got my chores that take me out into town out of the way this morning, just a trip to the local supermarket tomorrow which I can walk to. :)
It's snowing at home according to the good people of Facebook. I don't even have to check the news, all over the country people are telling me if it's snowing.

We had haily/snow... couldn't quite tell! Though I'll jsut say snow since it's Christmas. Snow snow snow :D it's stopped now though, booo :(
And like 20 minutes from Newport Freckles, in "the bran" (Cwmbran) if you know where that is...
The angels must have been baking because there is icing sugar all over the road outside my house :) More to come according to the forecast, hope my flight to the UK on Sunday will not be affected.
We have snow!!! My son thinks it is cause he was good in school and Santa gave it to him as a prize.. bless him!:angel:
We have snow alright - it took me 10 minutes to get out of my drive this morning! Hubby's car had slid down the drive overnight and hit the garage door
Son's driving test this afternoon looks like being cancelled. :crying:

We had snow the other night, it's just lethal ice now. I wish it would go away.
Did anyone have a white christmas?
I didnt
Not quite, loads of snow on Christmas Eve on Merseyside but a lot of it had gone by Christmas Day. Half a snowman still left in sister-in-law's garden though :D
Our snow has just gone in the last few days. It's been so cold here, the roads turned to ice and the snow didn't melt for a week.

Well we've still got tons of the stuff if anyone wants some. It will be two weeks on Thrusday since the snow first started falling in Edinburgh and it has never thawed out, the snow just keeps falling and the ice gets thicker and thicker. I'm back to work next Wednesday and the schools return then aswell. It will take that long for it to thaw unless we get more snow over the next few days.

I'd gladly have more snow, made it feel Christmassy! :D
Did anyone have a white christmas?
I didnt
I did. I was in Aviemore over Crimbo. The snow never went away. On Christmas Morning I had to dig my wee car out of 8 inches of snow. The temperature guage read MINUS 17. I have never seen it so low. The windscreen washers didnt work for a full week. But hey we had a ball
:( im just sick of the rain now
It's just cold where I am! Last of the snow is going, still have a little ice but I think that's becoming history, ready for some more snow!
We're having more snow, but it's coming in intervals. It is heavy but i don't think it's heavy enough for it to lie!

We had another snow shower at tea-time and to get more snow during the night and into the new year. Minus 7 degrees up here.
Ive never been more jealous in all my life
I am bloody freezing here!! just got back from Germany (which was covered in Snow last monday and we were not sure if we were ever going to land) but here is even colder than there... We had the heating off all week so it is like an ice box
It is snowing here too and has done the past couple of days. Nice to look at from a warm room but I hate driving in it.

Guess what we had today YES more fooking snow. :rotfl: I was on the phone to my sister and her neighbour down the stairs from her has had no cable tv or Internet since Christmas Eve. An engineer from Virgin Media was out but could not get to the control box as it was under the ground and it was thick with ice. It could be a few more days before my sister's neighbour is conected.
More snow coming down now here too :(
We had snow earlier! :D :cheer:
We have had snow since New years eve... amazing for Dublin
We're due more snow this week

But i bet you anything it still won't snow where I am.
The only time it did snow, was after the final of david tennant's last episode as the Doctor :'( and it began to snow so I went outside in it and raised my arms to the heavens and looked up into the sky. for that moment i felt like the Doctor :)
Due more tonight where I am :(
No snow down here at all (and who on earth said it was too warm down here to get snow - its blimming freezing  )
I'm off to New York next week though and it is snowing over there, so will get to see some white stuff, not more commonly known as ice then yay!
It's apparently due to snow here. But i don't know look's like it will just be frost and ice, my brother wants it to snow through so he doesn't have to go into school :p
We had another snow fall last night so everything back covered in the white stuff.. seem like we will have more tonight... everything is on a go slow in this part of dublin.. Haven't been in the main city center yet so don't know how that is but the surrounding areas are like a winter wonderland... they won't let me have a snow man competition at work boo!!
we have about a foot of the white stuff, buses cancelled and I'm meant to be going to london, not sure how that's gonna work out!
Manchester airport is closed so my sister was diverted to Birmingham from Florida this morning. They're on a coach from Birmingham to Manchester now to pick their car up then they have to drive up to Newcastle.
the roads are awful in Manchester. Not enough grit. All buses suspended aswell. Trains still going though and all schools shut to. Like a ghost town where I live no cars out at all. A couple of roads havebeen closed to. Been crazy.
omg finally!!!! lots and lots of snow!! :cheer:
We had heavy snow earlier on, wonder if we're due anymore. It say's certain parts of Britain are due 40cm of snow.
How bad is it in the south west, we are gonna have troubles getting me back to uni
I want snow tonight, really don't want to go into college tomorrow, i'm sooo tired through. Everything seem's to be getting to me is well :( I just need a hug.

Still really icy here.. more snow expected tonight and read on Breaking news.ie that this is to last til March...
Was sent home early today because it has not stopped snowing since the middle of last night and as we live in a rural area, the roads are now becoming impossible to drive on, especially on hills. And it is not going to stop until Sunday

It was snowing at ten this morning for an hour or so and then stopped, we've had only light snow now, but i managed to fall going to see my gran  it hurt a lot :( I just want the snow to get lost!
Has hardly stopped snowing since yesterday evening. Cleared to path outside the house 3 times so far and it is not going to stop snowing until tomorrow :(
Ladbrokes has refused to pay out more than £7m to a man who bet on a white Christmas.
The Daily Telegraph says that Cliff Bryant from Southampton placed two £5 accumulators on a white Christmas across 24 towns and cities.
However, Ladbrokes has refused to pay out after claiming that accumulators are banned for betting on snow.
The company apologised for allowing the bet to be made in the first place and paid Bryant £31.78 for the single bets.
However, it is estimated that the first accumulator would have won just over £4.9m while the other would have made Bryant a further £2.23m.
Bryant said that he is "gutted" about the decision and added: "This is a genuine mistake, and if I make a mistake in my work like that it costs me dearly and I think the offer should be a lot more generous than they have made. They are one of the leading bookmakers in the country and I think they ought to do their homework a bit better in future."
Meanwhile, a Ladbrokes spokesperson said: "We have apologised to the customer for any confusion and for mistakenly accepting an accumulator bet when our own rules state that only single bets are available on a market of this nature. We are happy to void the bets and pay the customer his winnings on the relevant singles."
A representative for the Independent Betting Adjudication Service said that Bryant had been in contact and added that they will investigate once he sends them the paperwork.
DS
Aww. I feel sorry for him
I'd hire lawyers. There be a queue of them as well because it can be argues that there was a contract in place for the accumulator
It is just mad, I have to see whether I can take a bus to work tomorrow, there is no way I am driving in this sh$t weather. Has not stopped snowing since Friday :cyring: I have had ENOUGH!!
At the end of the day, the bet was placed and accepted, so they should pay out!! Whether a mistake or not, the contract was made at the point the bet was placed!
I just hope I am able to get up the M5 and M4 on Weds - the m/ways should be clear though, so I should be fine - could just be a few flight delays.
Everyone here is panic buying though and my car is stuck on the drive. Very peaceful though - I kind of love it in that sense. (and my dog does too lol)

We had some snow during the night but it was only a dusting over the roads and cars. It's melted now thank goodness.
The full works are back where I am. Spent 20 minutes this morning clearing snow off the car and the footpaths to the house and the car park, we have 4 cars parked outside the house. Hate it, HATE IT :crying:
This morning at around 6 am the temperature read -19.5 C, the roads are glistening with all the ice crystals on the snow which looks pretty but is a nightmare to travel on in a car. :( This is one hell of a winter and no end in sight, more snow forecast for the rest of this week. :crying:
