EASTENDERS battleaxe Peggy Mitchell will NOT be killed off :crying: - because actress Barbara Windsor wants to return in two years' time.
Babs announced last month she was quitting the show after 15 years :cheer: so she could spend more time with her husband Scott Mitchell.
The news delighted Alan who thought it would see Peggy killed off in the BBC1 soap.
But 72-year-old former Carry On star Barbara has no plans to give up Peggy for good.:crying:
Instead she plans to take two years off and then reprise the role in 2012.:crying:
A source close to the star said: "Barbara has such a fondness for Peggy that she genuinely wants to play her again.
"She doesn't want the character killed off. Producers understand that."
Wonderful
The source added that Barbara could return full-time, but was more likely to come back for "special storylines".
Barbara admitted when she quit the show that playing Peggy had been one of the best things in her long career.
She said: ""EastEnders has been wonderful to me. It changed my life. I'll be so sad to leave Peggy behind."
Peggy will leave as part of a major storyline - which could end at the same time as the show's 25th anniversary in February.
