Coronation Street's Rosie Webster is to go under the knife for a boob job in the New Year, it has been revealed.

The mischievous Weatherfield resident makes the surprise decision after pledging her future to a new job as a promotions girl, The Sun reports.

Rosie's new storyline will come as her mum Sally (Sally Whittaker) begins her battle with breast cancer on the ITV1 soap. Fans will soon see Sally telling her family that she needs a lumpectomy to remove a malignant tumour.

A source said: "The bosses are well aware of the controversy this storyline will cause. But they've researched all the implications and also looked at how it may affect teenage girl viewers and are determined to go ahead and show it - warts and all."

It is thought that Rosie, played by 19-year-old Helen Flanagan, has the cosmetic procedure paid for by her new boss at the promotions agency. Her younger sister Sophie (Brooke Vincent) is the first to uncover her plans and is "gobsmacked" by the news.

Rosie's fixation on her latest career move follows the loss of her new-found wealth after she was conned by Underworld boss Luke Strong (Craig Kelly).

Rosie (Helen Flanagan) plans to become a glamour and promotions girl and thinks that an increase in her cup size will lead to an increase in her wages.

Her plan is rumbled by sister Sophie (Brooke Vincent) who realises something is up when Rosie rushes to the post every day to intercept a letter from a company called Desire Solutions. Sophie thinks Rosie is up for botox and liposuction until the elder teen confesses she’s having her breasts done.

Mum Sally (Sally Whittaker), who’ll confess to her family she needs a lumpectomy to remove a malignant tumour on Christmas Day, is devastated.

Unlike Rosie’s boss at the agency she works for, who agrees to foot the bill for Rosie’s op, seeing it as an investment in ‘their’ future.
