2696: Newt and Gaz come to blows
Airs on Monday, November 23 2009 at 18:30 GMT on Channel 4

Mercedes's routine HIV check-up is on the horizon but she insists to Malachy that she's fine to go alone. With that, Malachy encourages Carmel to go in his place. Once Malachy's out of the way at the wholesalers, Mercedes and Calvin's attraction sizzles until they're interrupted by Carmel.

Returning to the village, Carmel's incessant chatter continues to wind Mercedes up. Totally oblivious by his intentions, Carmel's pleased to see Calvin approach and is thrilled when he hands her a good luck present as she reprises her role as a PCSO. A jealous Mercedes looks on, however, surprised and confused by her feelings.

Picking up on her mood change, Calvin's concerned about Mercedes. His concern grows when she storms off. Following her, he's floored to hear that the hospital have called as they think that she's contracted HIV.

Comforting a distraught Mercedes, Calvin attempts to remain positive. Mercedes, however, is adamant that her recall is to confirm her results in person. Enlisting a promise that he won't tell Malachy, Calvin and Mercedes now have another secret between them…

Meanwhile, Newt finds himself the unwanted centre of attention at school. When Gaz approaches and winds him up about Lauren and Rae, Newt's unsettled by the encounter. Rae's soon on his case and tempers are fuelled as they argue.

When Gaz intervenes, Newt sees no other way out and pushed into a decision, he declares that he's leaving school. His mind in turmoil, Newt runs into an obnoxious Duncan. Duncan's request of a photo to send to his cousin tips Newt over the edge and he lashes out at him, prompting Duncan to run away scared.

Newt's day becomes worse when he witnesses Rae and Gaz together. His paranoia growing, he confronts Gaz and before long, he lands a punch, sending Gaz flying. Jack rushes over and drags Newt away, before listening to his fears about school.

Suggesting that Newt may have returned too soon, Jack promises to have a word with the head and insists that Newt should reconsider his decision.

Elsewhere, Darren receives a frosty reception from Jack after his involvement in Tom's drunken encounter. Seizing an opportunity to shine in front of Neville and his dad, Darren asks if he can hold a family day at The Dog. Using Hannah as a bartering tool, Darren offers to keep Neville up to date in what's happening in her life in return for a crack at The Dog job.

Hannah's arrival at the pub pleases Neville but when he accuses Darren of using his 'fragile' daughter for his own good, she storms off, furious with her dad's perception of her. Darren follows Hannah, but even he doesn't realise that a Hannah's not as well as she'd like everyone to think she is…

Neville acts on Darren's earlier offer and agrees that in return for information on Hannah, he will let Darren hold his family day with a view to being reinstated as manager.

Thinking this news will please Jack, Darren's left deflated when his dad appears more interested in Newt…

2697: Malachy's devastated by Mercedes's claim
Airs on Tuesday, November 24 2009 at 18:30 GMT on Channel 4

Malachy's oblivious to Mercedes's concerns about the results of her HIV check up. Despite it being the anniversary of his father's funeral, Malachy seems in good spirits and reminds Mercedes that they need to make the most of their lives. She can't bear the way he is talking as she's deeply concerned that her results may be positive. Calvin, meanwhile, is worried that Mercedes still hasn't told Malachy about her concerns, but agrees to cover for her whilst she goes back to the hospital.

On her return, Malachy tells an angry Mercedes that his mum has asked him to go back to Ireland and a row ensues. Mercedes confides in Calvin that the hospital has lost her blood sample and that she still hasn't had her results back. With that, she begins to cry and Calvin's forced to comfort her.

When she goes home to Malachy, he's laid out a picnic to apologise and as he talks about their future, Mercedes becomes frustrated and tells him that she thinks that she's caught HIV. He tries to reassure her but Mercedes tells Malachy that she doesn't think that she'll be able to forgive him if her test is returned positive.

Meanwhile, Steph and Frankie bump into a scruffy-looking Loretta as they walk through the village. Loretta tells them that she's going to the launderette as her B&B has no hot water. With that, Steph invites her back to their house.

While Loretta showers, Frankie tells Steph that she's pleased that Jake has found someone but she still seems cautious. Jake enters and is panicked to hear that Loretta's there. He tells Steph to tidy up and he begins cooking, making Steph feel uncomfortable. He then warns Frankie to be on her best behaviour.

Frankie grills Loretta about her dancing, so Loretta invites her to one of the pole dancing classes and Jack's delighted. An embarrassed Steph changes the subject, though, as Frankie begins to choke.

Loretta saves the day and using the Heimlich manoeuvre, she dislodges the bone that was stuck down Frankie's throat. Jake's so grateful for her help that he offers to take Loretta to Paris for the weekend.

Steph tries to talk to Frankie about her fears for Jake's new relationship, insiting that thinks things are moving far to quickly between them but Frankie silences her. As Loretta attempts to leave, Frankie invites her to stay with them.

Elsewhere, when Holly's kicked out of after school club, Cindy's fuming. Holly tells her that the reason for her disruptive behaviour was down to the fact that she wanted more work. She tells her mum that she wants to go to the private school Harry goes too.

When Cindy realises that Tony will be paying his son's tuition fees, she's angry and demands that he do the same for Holly. Tony tells Cindy that he won't be bullied and insists that he's using his savings for Harry's education and that he would do the same for Holly if he could. As Tony walks away, Cindy's left sulking.

2698: Loretta walks out on a devastated Jake
Airs on Wednesday, November 25 2009 at 18:30 GMT on Channel 4

The atmosphere between Malachy and Mercedes is tense as he continues to reassure her that her HIV results will be fine. Mercedes, however, remains unconvinced.

As Malachy goes to leave for the hospital with her, she tells him that she would rather go alone. With that, Mercedes walks out, leaving Malachy confused and concerned about his wife. Malachy confides in Calvin that there was a problem with Mercedes' latest HIV test and although she's fine, things between them are still strained.

When Calvin bumps into Mercedes in the office, he tells her that he's pleased that her test results have come back clear. However, she hints that there's still something wrong. It looks like they're about to kiss when they are interrupted by a phone call.

After bumping into India, Calvin invites her to The Loft for a drink in an attempt to make Mercedes jealous. Calvin's shocked when she takes him up on the offer but feeling low and confused about his feelings for Mercedes, he decides to spend time with her.

A jealous Mercedes interrupts them and berates Calvin for leaving her to do all the work. Malachy returns and shows Calvin an eternity ring that he's bought for Mercedes. He thanks Calvin for being such a good friend, completely unaware of the sexual tension that's brewing between Calvin and Mercedes.

Meanwhile, Jake and Loretta wake up together after her first night living at the Osbornes'. Everyone seems happy by her presence in the house apart from Steph, who has concerns about how fast their relationship is moving. When Loretta leaves for work, Jake tells Frankie that he'd like to give his room a clean before Loretta returns. Frankie encourages him to redecorate and although Steph protests, everyone seems pleased with the idea.

Steph tries to talk about her concerns with Jake but it doesn't go to plan and Jake tells her he'd like Loretta to move in with them permanently. After failing to get through to her mum and Jake, Steph talks to Loretta directly. Loretta tries to put Steph's mind at rest but when a reluctant Steph tells her that Jake wants her to move in permanently, she's shocked by the suggestion.

When Jake shows Loretta around his new room, he senses that there's something wrong. When she tells him that she thinks it's all a bit too soon, Jake gets angry. Steph can only watch in horror as Loretta walks out on a devastated Jake.

While Michaela, Josh and Dave wander through the village looking for somewhere to drink, Michaela spots the Rudolph goat and encourages Josh and Dave to set him free.

Dominic's frantic and India's shocked to return home to find a goat in the students' bathroom. An argument ensues, until Dave silences them all when he insists that because it was Michaela's idea, she should return it. Dominic's surprised to wake from his slumber to find that Rudolph has returned home.

2699: Holly's electrocuted
Airs on Thursday, November 26 2009 at 18:30 GMT on Channel 4

Jake's finding it hard to come to terms with his break up with Loretta. When he overhears an argument between Steph and Frankie, he realises that Steph drove Loretta away. With that, Jake challenges Steph over what she said but is silenced by Jack. Tired of all the arguments, Jack tells the family that they've been invited to a festive lunch at The Dog bu Darren.

After being given a second chance by Neville, Darren's determined to make a success of his festive venture. He decorates The Dog with Christmas lights - all of which are plugged into one questionable looking cable. Darren's overjoyed when he sees Jack and the rest of the family together.

As he gets everyone a drink, Darren talks to a forlorn Jake who reminds him that he's partly responsible for his situation. Darren's left feeling guilty but it's short-lived as The Dog loses all its power. Jake tells Darren to call an electrician but Darren can't afford it. With that, he manages to persuade Jake to help.

While Darren stands guard, Holly walks out. Suddenly, there's a loud bang and we see that Holly's been electrocuted. Darren springs in to action, putting Holly in the recovery position and giving her mouth-to-mouth.

Darren steps back as Cindy and Tony approach. They instantly accuse Jake of hurting Holly but Darren jumps to his defence - Darren lies and tells everyone that it was Jake who saved Holly's life.

Meanwhile, Amy's still reluctant to spend time with her children, despite Ste trying to persuade her otherwise. He's frustrated when she chooses to go to The Loft over a trip to the park with the kids. Sasha's pleased to see Amy and takes the day off work to spend time with her.

As Sasha and Amy crack open a bottle of champagne, Michaela arrives as she's been abandoned by Josh and is in need of company. Michaela instantly makes a comment about Amy being away from her children and the mood darkens. A petty argument ensues, before Josh and India arrive. At that moment, Michaela's focus changes and Josh is instantly uncomfortable. He tries to persuade India to leave but she has an ulterior motive - Calvin.

As the girls sit around gossiping, Josh feels foolish when he realises that India's only interested in Calvin. He approaches the girls and their arguments are forgotten as they unite in teasing him. India, meanwhile, prepares to make her move on Calvin, oblivious to his feelings for Mercedes. When she kisses him, she's embarrassed to be knocked back and promptly leaves.

Josh and the girls discuss university life when Michaela announces that she's had enough - she now wants a job! Amy returns home drunk, while Ste's asleep with the kids. She reaches out to touch the children but can't bring herself to do it. With that, she leaves in tears.

Elsewhere, Dominic is out for revenge after the incident with the goat. When the freezer in Il Gnosh breaks down leaving him with a batch of rotting fish, he's sure that the students are to blame. With his cool box and marigolds in hand, he heads to halls to put his plan into action.

Airs on Friday, November 27 2009 at 18:30 GMT on Channel 4

As Malachy goes all-out for his first wedding anniversary, Mercedes is consumed by guilt. When Malachy presents her with an eternity ring and flowers, she's ashamed to hand him a single card.

Malachy arranges a celebration at The Loft, while Myra and Carmel make Mercedes an appointment at Evissa. Everyone seems so excited about the day – everyone, that is, other than Mercedes.

Over a drink in The Dog, Mercedes tries to talk to Carmel about how she's feeling. Carmel misreads Mercedes's guilt and assumes that it's because she failed to get Malachy a gift. Carmel reassures her, though, telling her how much Malachy loves her. Apologising to Carmel, Mercedes gets up and leaves.

Calvin's setting up things at The Loft when Mercedes approaches him, surprised to see her. She tells him that she loves Malachy and reminds him that she's married. Calvin tells her that he understands but as she leaves, it's clear that he still has feelings for her.

Over a manicure with Carmel, Mercedes shows her a watch that she's bought for Malachy and she seems content. As the happy couple celebrate in The Loft, a heartbroken Calvin watches from a distance…

At the prison a nervous Mike waits for Zoe to arrive. As she approaches, Mike's shocked by how she looks. It isn't the Zoe he once knew - she's pale and drawn. Zoe's pleased to see Mike, but he's cautious. When Zoe tries to warn Mike about Lydia, he snaps and tells her that he wants her to plead guilty. Zoe's heartbroken by Mike's outburst. He tries to get reassurance and begins to talk to her about Sarah. They still share a bond and Mike leaves feeling more confused than ever.

When Lydia returns home later that night, she finds Mike has turned things upside down. When she enquires about what he's doing, he tells her that he's looking for a diary that Sarah may have kept. Lydia panics but manages to keep her composure. Lydia helps Mike look and she manages to convince him that seeing Zoe was the wrong decision. Before long, Mike's back under Lydia's spell.

Elsewhere, Hannah tries to encourage Darren to apologise to Cindy and tell her that he was the one that saved Holly's life. He tells Hannah that he won't come clean and will continue to let people believe that Jake saved the youngster. Hannah's impressed by his attitude.

Josh remains concerned but is happy when Hannah says that she'll go out with him and Rhys. Just before they leave, a drunken Darren enters. He tells Hannah that although Holly's okay, Cindy's still furious with him.

Hannah tells him that he should tell the truth but he refuses. Hannah admires Darren for his actions and cancels her plans with Josh and Rhys to stay in with him instead.
