Billy overhears Janine and Archie's plans

Airs on Monday, December 14 2009 at 20:00 GMT on BBC One

A newly-engaged Janine moves some of her belongings into Archie's house and while Archie questions whether they should make an announcement, the topic of the footage of Ian in bed with her arises. Archie reminds her, though, that it's worthless unless Ian has something to lose - Archie wants Ian in on their scam. Later, a curious Janine asks Lucy about Ian and Jane's relationship, before returning to the Car Lot. The pair talk about their relationship and Janine mentions that they've yet to sleep together and after questioning their relationship, she shocks Archie by calling the whole thing off. Back at home, Ryan returns and Janine informs him that she's left Archie so she can be with him. Ryan, however, doesn't believe a word Janine says and slams her bedroom door in her face.

Later, Billy leaves a message for Honey in the hope of arranging time to see the kids over Christmas. After a showdown with Mo in the market, Billy returns home and receives a call from Honey who reveals that she's spending Christmas at her parents, so he won't be able to see the kids until the New Year. Janine and Archie turn up, prompting Billy to hide behind the door. Archie takes Janine's engagement ring and informs her that she's now a beneficiary in his will. With that, the pair fall into a passionate embrace, completely unaware that Billy's watching. Billy can't believe what he's seeing and as he creeps towards the back door, he overhears Archie and Janine's plan to take The Vic from Phil and Peggy…

Meanwhile, Max is suffering in the wake of last week's events. Ian turns up and asks for Jane's address but Max states that he can't help. On his way out, Ian suggests that Max clean up the house as Tanya will never return if he carries on the way he is. Later, Phil turns up at the house to remind Max that he owes more money and he reluctantly hands over cash. Phil later sees Heather and Shirley and disgusted by Max's actions, Shirley announces his deceit to the whole pub. Max is forced to apologise, but it doesn't go down well in the slightest.

Elsewhere, Lucy hands Ian a piece of paper with Jane's current address on it; Jay hands Billy a bag of mistletoe to sell on the market; Billy helps to point customers towards The Vic; Ian goes to see Jane but is surprised to find a half-dressed guy living there, too; Peggy's back on the Square and presses Phil for answers; Jane's not convinced that Ian really wants to adopt; Masood struggles with the family finances; Whitney heads to court again as Bianca goes to give her evidence; as Ian leaves, he hands Jane a picture that Bobby drew for her; Mo's not happy that Billy's competing in the mistletoe stakes; Peggy's furious when Phil confirms that he borrowed money from Ian and put The Vic on the line as security; and Lucy announces that Bobby's gone missing…

Janine begins blackmailing Ian

Airs on Tuesday, December 15 2009 at 19:30 GMT on BBC One

Spotting the mistletoe in the house, Archie and Janine realise that Billy must've overheard their plans for the rest of the Mitchells and The Vic. The pair catch Billy just as he's about to creep out of the house and Archie blocks his exit. Billy feigns ignorance but Archie and Janine explain that their situation is more complicated than it sounds and that they deserve The Vic, not Ian. The news about Phil's financial situation hits home with Billy and Archie explains that whoever clears the Mitchells' debts will gain The Vic - it's clear that Archie and Janine are trying to manipulate him in the hope he'll keep quiet about their master plan. Spotting Billy later wearing a sandwich board to advertise The Vic's Christmas dinner, Archie and Janine know that it won't be long before Billy's on side.

Deciding that he wants nothing to do with their plan, Billy turns up at Archie's house and is about to break the news to Archie and Janine when he's greeted by William and Janet playing in the living room. Archie goes on to explain that he can look after his children until Boxing Day and that he's free to use the house for as long as he wants. Delighted that they've played on Billy's emotions to buy his silence, Janine heads over to the café with a DVD in hand. Ian's surprised to see her and is dumfounded when she plays the footage of Ian in her bed to him. Ian's panicked by what Janine's showing him and he suddenly realises why she's backing him into a corner - if he doesn't sign over the Mitchell loan, she'll show Jane the damning video.

Meanwhile, Zainab's unhappy to discover that she's the oldest mother-to-be at the antenatal classes. She doesn't hold back, though, as before they leave, Zainab makes sure that they know some truths about child birth. Back on the Square, Amira informs Masood that she's cancelled the white horse Syed intended to turn up to the wedding on. After further discussion, Masood's financial woes are finally revealed. Zainab shows some compassion toward her husband, while Amira resolves to visit her father in prison and ask for help with the wedding fund.

Elsewhere, Ian, Lucy and Peter search for Bobby who's still missing; Abi's delighted when Musty the car returns; the Mitchells decide to raffle Max's car off; Ian's relieved when Jane turns up at the house to help the search for Bobby; Heather tells Abi the truth about Max ripping her off; Billy consoles Jane in the park; Phil sells tickets to Christmas dinner at The Vic; Abi takes Max to The Vic and defends him against the locals; Bobby finally turns up and runs to Jane when he sees her; Heather places a card at the door of the Brannings'; Phil realises that he's sold too many tickets to the Christmas dinner and not everyone will fit in the pub; and Jane announces that she's ready to return home.

Ian signs over the Mitchells' loan

Airs on Thursday, December 17 2009 at 19:30 GMT on BBC One

With the Mitchells' local Christmas dinner now being held at the community centre, Ronnie and Roxy rally around preparing for the event. They hear a crash from the living room and when they investigate, they find Phil who's smashed a lamp in anger as Grant's contact Nick has gone off the radar and can't lend the family any more cash. It then dawns on them that they're going to have to fend off another debt collector. Bean, meanwhile, listens in and asks to be involved with the family's problems, but Phil insists that he shouldn't worry. Aunt Sal then turns up at The Vic and presumes that the grande preparations are for her 70th birthday celebrations. Peggy assures her that they are. Later, the meal doesn't begin well and branding the event shambolic, Aunt Sal decides to entertain the locals, before suggesting that they shouldn't pay if they're not happy.

Roxy decides to shed some light on the Mitchells' finances and armed with the truth, Sal's more understanding. With the audience demanding more entertainment, Sal wows the crowd with her fire-eating skills. Meanwhile, Janine drops in to see Ian and panicking what Janine will say, sends Jane out on a shopping trip. With Jane out of the way, Janine reiterates her deal - the loan on The Vic in return for the damning video footage of him. Ian's initially reluctant but when Archie wanders through the back door, he fathoms that they're in league together. When Ben arrives at the Beales' to ask Ian for an extension on the loan, realisation hits for Ian that his half-brother would be left homeless if he signs the debt over to Janine and Archie.

His mind made up, Ian turns up at Archie's house to inform him and Janine that he's not prepared to sell the Mitchells' loan. Janine begins to panic, but a calm and collected Archie asks Ian to return at 6pm with his final decision. Jane returns from her shopping trip to find a despondent Ian slouched in his armchair in the dark with tears in his eyes. He apologises to a confused Jane who comforts him, believing that her disappearance is still upsetting him. As the Mitchells toast Ben's negotiation skills and Sal's entertainment prowess, Sal accidentally lets slip that Ronnie's pregnant. Ronnie, however, won't confirm who the father of the baby is. Across the Square, though, Ian reluctantly signs over the Mitchells' debt…

Elsewhere, Sal guesses that Ronnie's pregnant; Amira visits her father Quadim in prison where she apologises for not turning up sooner; Todd visits Whitney with a Christmas card and they end up making mince pies; Roxy's furious that baby Amy nearly choked on the fake berries from Mo's mistletoe; Qadim tells Amira that he has money stored for her future, but she breaks the news to him that she's back with Syed; Archie gives Billy a pile of cash as an 'advance for his new job at Mitchell's Executive Motors'; Whitney's told that a verdict from the court is due tomorrow; Qadim's furious about Amira's wedding plans, claims that she's attention-seeking and refuses to give his blessing for her wedding'; and Charlie blackmails Mo into directing the nativity.

Tony's sentenced in court

Airs on Friday, December 18 2009 at 20:00 GMT on BBC One

Peggy receives a Christmas card addressed to 'Mr and Mrs Mitchell' from the vicar who married them earlier in the year. She meets Archie in the café, where he hands her their divorce papers that arrived earlier in the day – but as he does, he tells Peggy that he loves her, before questioning whether she's sure about their parting. An initially strong Peggy soon finds herself questioning her own decision. Unbeknown to Archie, Ryan's been listening from behind a newspaper. Later, Peggy talks to Roxy about the options open to her but when Ronnie overhears, she can't believe that she's even thinking about a future with Archie after the turmoil he's caused the family. Ronnie's absolutely seething that Peggy is seriously considering it.

Across the Square, Ryan lets a curious Janine know what he heard Archie and Peggy talk about in the café. Later, Archie's booked a brass band to play in the Square and when Peggy sees her fiancé sat in the gardens, she begins to wonder what he's actually up to. Ronnie, meanwhile, decides to visit her father to let him know exactly what she thinks. As Peggy's about to leave for Archie's house, Janine turns up at The Vic. Peggy's taken aback when Janine shows her the engagement ring Archie bought her and in an attempt to convince the disbelieving landlady, she claims that it's Archie's mother's ring.

Later, Peggy turns up at Archie's house and exclaims that she knows about his and Janine's engagement. Ronnie and Roxy are enraged by the revelation, while in her fury, Peggy signs the divorce papers and throws them at him. Janine soon returns to the house and assures Archie that she had no other choice but to come clean with Peggy. At the café, Phil arrives with Ben to see Ian and tries to hand over £79,000 from the sale of the Arches. They're completely unaware, though, that Ian's sold their debt to Archie…

Elsewhere, Dotty bribes Mo to secure her part as the Angel Gabriel in the nativity; the Masoods discuss the impending wedding and their financial situation; Todd tries to distract Whitney from the looming verdict; Jane realises that her adoption dream is over and bins the literature; Syed and Amira give Masood and Zainab the money from Qadim's safety deposit box; Mo struggles as director of the nativity; Christian struggles to cope during the wedding rehearsals; Masood consoles an upset Jane in the Square; Ryan informs Whitney that Tony was found guilty on every charge and asks if she wants to see him sentenced; and Bianca informs Whitney that Tony was sentenced to 13 years' imprisonment.

Having discovered that Archie and Janine are engaged, Peggy (Barbara Windsor) storms around to his house, signs their divorce papers and throws them at him.

Does that make their divorce official or does it have to be lodged before the court to be final. Will Peggy get the Vic back upon his death?

Perdita
13-12-2009, 17:25
There would first have to a a decree nisi and six weeks after that they have to apply for the decree absolute. However, if divorce papers were lodged before Archie dies, I am not sure that Peggy would be entitled to any inheritance.

Perhaps Ronnie and Roxy will inherit it then, along with the rest of his wealth.

Unless Glenda is the surprise factor and rumours that they never divorced are true. Although I would have thought that Ronnie and Roxy would be aware but then a divorce might never have been discussed and they just assume that Archie was able to marry Peggy :hmm:

Yes, that could be Glenda's way into EE. It'll be strange if a new character is running the Vic.

Peggy Mitchell celebrates her divorce from twisted husband *Archie – just as he makes a bid for her beloved Queen Vic.

The schemer has spent months plotting with fiancée Janine Butcher to get his hands on the boozer.

And his timing really couldn’t be any better.

For Peggy is upstairs toasting the fact she’s finally got Archie out of her life for good when the Mitchells’ celebrations are interrupted by barman Ryan Malloy.

He tells his boss she had better come *downstairs quickly…and she’s not going to like what she finds.

As our pictures show, Peggy is mortified to discover Archie and Janine behind the bar.

But after telling the pair to get out she’s shocked when Archie smugly declares the Vic now belongs to him – and he wants her out of HIS pub.

And when Archie shows her a copy of his loan agreement a devastated Peggy realises there’s nothing she can do.

An insider said: “Peggy finds out Archie is engaged to Janine on the day her divorce papers come through the post.

“But instead of kicking off she decides to give him exactly what he wants and signs the divorce papers.

“She delivers them herself and tells Archie she’s well rid of him. The rest of the Mitchell clan can’t believe Archie is planning to marry Janine and rally round Peggy.

“They have a family get-together and decide to toast the future without him.

“But as they celebrate he’s on his way over to take control of the Queen Vic.

“And he relishes every moment of kicking Peggy out of her home.”

Fans of the BBC1 show will be able to watch all the drama unfold when Archie and Janine finally get their hands on the Queen Vic this Friday.

I thought the decree absolute comes through the post after all the paperwork has been signed and only then is the divorce final

I'm sure you're right, Cupid. On Archie's death, the Vic would revert to Peggy unless he's made a will leaving it to Janine.
