CORRIE bad boy Ryan Thomas was questioned by cops last night after allegedly crashing his car and then fleeing the scene.

The TV star, 25, has also been quizzed over allegations he persuaded a pal to claim HE was driving, to escape punishment.

Street hunk Ryan is said to have ploughed his Chrysler into a lamp-post at 4am last Saturday, then left his friend at the scene as he made a quick exit.

Paramedics attended the accident in Manchester city centre and treated a man for shock. Police breathalysed him and arrested him for drink-driving.

But Ryan, who plays builder Jason Grimshaw in the hit soap, is believed to have had a change of heart and called cops.

Yesterday he attended a police station in Manchester. Accompanied by his solicitor, he was interviewed by officers for an hour.

He was not charged or arrested but will be quizzed again.

The star could face charges of failing to stop and failing to report an accident.

A Greater Manchester Police spokesman said: "Police were called following a report of a collision.

"Officers attended and found a Chrysler had collided with a lamp-post. A 25-year-old was interviewed by police on Friday 6 November 2009."

It is not Ryan's first brush with trouble. In 2006, he went on a wrecking spree in a hotel in Wellington, Shrops. He has also been caught up in bar brawls.

Thomas lives with long-term girlfriend and ex-Corrie star Tina O'Brien, 25. Their daughter Scarlett was born last year.

What an idiot. He's lucky it was a lampost he crashed into and not a person.

REAL-LIFE soap sweethearts Tina O'Brien and Ryan Thomas have ENDED their relationship following his recent car smash, we can reveal.

Friends say it was the "final straw" for the Coronation Street couple, who have a baby and have been together six years.

Cops are investigating allegations that Ryan, who plays builder Jason Grimshaw, fled after ploughing his Chrysler into a lamppost at 4am last Saturday. A friend was found at the scene.

A close pal said: "Tina and Ryan just haven't been getting on of late. The crash and the subsequent police activity has taken its toll on them. It's the straw that's broken the camel's back.

"The rows have been extremely bad. The only contact they've had with each other for days is by text to talk about their daughter Scarlett." Another friend said Tina, 26 - who played gymslip mum Sarah Platt until 2007 - was devastated.

Upset

She and Ryan, 25, met on the set of the Manchester soap, and Scarlett was born in October last year.

The friend said: "Ryan needs to learn to grow up. Tina is very upset."

Ryan went to a Manchester police station on Friday, and was quizzed for an hour. He was not arrested or charged and is set to be questioned again.

Following the city cente crash, paramedics treated a man for shock. He was arrested for drink-driving.

In 2006 Ryan had to pay for damage after he and pals wrecked a hotel room in Shropshire. The same year he was involved in a mass brawl outside a bar

Tina O'Brien dumped Coronation Street's Ryan Thomas following rows over the actor's latest screen romance, a report has claimed.

The 26-year-old, who played Weatherfield's young mum Sarah Platt for more than seven years, allegedly struggled as she watched her partner's character Jason Grimshaw share romantic moments with Tina McIntyre (Michelle Keegan).

A source told the Daily Star Sunday: "Tina has been feeling vulnerable since leaving the Street two years ago. She was no longer in the limelight as much as Ryan and felt quite left out at times. Seeing Ryan on telly with this gorgeous young thing did not exactly help matters.

"It caused a lot of rows at home. Tina would get jealous and accuse him of fancying Michelle. She couldn't stand watching them kiss each other."

Earlier this month, it was confirmed that O'Brien and Thomas had ended their relationship after six years. The pair have a 13-month-old daughter named Scarlett together.

O'Brien had previously spoken publicly about her boyfriend's scenes with 22-year-old Keegan, insisting: "I definitely don't get jealous if they're kissing - that doesn't really bother me at all - it's not the nicest thing in the world, but I'm certainly not jealous about it."

CORRIE star Ryan Thomas was arrested by police and held for almost eight hours after a furious bust-up with ex Tina O'Brien.

Ryan, 25 - who plays builder Jason Grimshaw in the ITV soap - was quizzed following reports of an assault on Friday evening.

He was released without charge at 3am yesterday. Cops were called when a slanging match escalated at the house the pair used to share in Cheadle Heath, Greater Manchester - where Ryan still lives.

It is understood that Tina, 26, who played gymslip mum Sarah-Louise Platt in Corrie, was there to collect their 14-month- old daughter Scarlett.

Neighbours reported hearing "a heated row" and Ryan was taken to the local police station.

Yesterday Tina said: "I can't talk about it. I'm really sorry I've got to go."

Ryan insisted: "I would like to make it clear that I have not assaulted and would never assault Tina.

"The police were satisfied this was the case and I was released without any action being taken."

The couple, who had a six-year relationship, split up last month and have clashed over who will have Scarlett on Christmas Day.

A source said: "They have been rowing about access. Because it is such a recent split there is no formal procedure in place so it is all very vague.

"That has worried Ryan, who fears he could be frozen out. And there were problems over him seeing her on Christmas Day."

Police confirmed that a man aged 25 was arrested on suspicion of assault and released without charge.

Coronation Street star Ryan Thomas is being comforted by on-screen lover Michelle Keegan after splitting from girlfriend Tina O'Brien.

The pair were spotted looking cosy when they left the soap's studios in his Range Rover on Thursday.

Friends revealed that they have been sharing late night phone calls this week after 25-year-old Ryan, who plays builder Jason Grimshaw, was quizzed on suspicion of assaulting Tina, 26.

One told The People: "Ryan loves working with Michelle and they have become very close since he split with Tina. It has been a difficult period for him but because he and Michelle spend so much time together he has been relying on her. Splitting with Tina and not being able to see his baby daughter every day has taken its toll and he was upset after he was arrested last week.

"Michelle has been the person there for him to pick up the pieces."

Ryan and Michelle, who plays Jason's shop worker lover Tina McIntyre, were seen leaving the Granada studios in Manchester during a filming break.

But an onlooker said: "Michelle pulled the visor down as soon as they drove out. Perhaps she was worried that they would be seen together."

Viewers have watched the pair's onscreen characters embark on a steamy love affair since the summer.

Tina dumped David Platt - played by Jack P Shepherd - and has moved in with Jason above The Kabin, where she also works. Actress Michelle, 22, has been dating club promoter Brad Howard for two years.

She said of him recently: "We don't live together, we have our own lives and each do our own thing. We haven't spoken about moving in together."

Ryan and Tina O'Brien, who met on the Corrie set when she played Sarah Platt, split last month after six years.

Their parting came when he smashed his car into a lamppost and fled the scene. Tina was furious and the pair, who have a 13-month-old daughter, Scarlett, had a huge bust-up.

Last week The People revealed how Ryan was held by cops for eight hours after another row during which Tina claimed he assaulted her at the Cheshire home they used to share.

He was released without charge.

TINA O'Brien revealed she is finally getting on well with her ex Ryan Thomas for the sake of their baby girl.

The ex Corrie babe split from her former co-star - the father of 16-month-old Scarlett - in November, following a six-year relationship.

But after a bust-up between the pair at Ryan's Manchester home shortly after the breakup, Tina insists they have now put all their differences behind them.

She told Manchester's Key 103 radio station today: "[Things are] really good... Obviously we're not together anymore but we've got to get on with things."

While hinting that the pair aren't completely at ease with each other yet, she said they're moving on from their past issues.

The 26-year-old, who recently landed a part in BBC1 drama Waterloo Road, continued: "We're getting on as well as can be expected. That sounds worse than it is! It's all good now."

The star grinned after being snapped outside the radio studio today and clutched a love heart pillow and card an adoring fan had waited to give her.

Coronation Street star Ryan Thomas has been ordered to appear in court over allegations that he left the scene of a road accident, according to a report.

The 25-year-old actor, who plays builder Jason Grimshaw on the soap, was reportedly due to be served with a court summons at his home yesterday in relation to a car crash which occurred in Manchester city centre on October 31, 2009.

It is claimed that Thomas's car collided with a lamppost in the early hours of the day in question.

At the time, another man was arrested on the scene and charged with driving under the influence of drink or drugs and having no insurance. However, the Manchester Evening News reports that these allegations have since been dropped and replaced with a charge of perverting the course of justice.

Meanwhile, it is thought that Thomas now stands accused of failing to stop after a crash and failing to report the incident to police.

Sue Cairns from the Crown Prosecution Service said: "I can confirm that, having considered a file passed to me by police, and having applied the CPS Code for Crown Prosecutors, I have authorised a summons be issued for a 25 year-old man to attend Manchester Magistrates' Court on 16 April.

"This is in order to answer charges relating to a road accident that occurred on October 31 last year."

Thomas spoke to the police in relation to the crash in November but was not charged or arrested. The matter made headlines at the time and was said to have led to the soap star's split from Tina O'Brien.

Coronation Street star Ryan Thomas has been handed a £2,020 fine after admitting that he left the scene of a car crash.

The 25-year-old, who plays Weatherfield builder Jason Grimshaw, lost control of his Chrysler and struck crash barriers at a junction in Manchester last October while driving with two passengers.

Following the collision, Thomas travelled home in a passing taxi while one of his friends dialled 999. He voluntarily attended a police station to discuss the accident a week later.

Appearing at Manchester Magistrates' Court yesterday, the actor admitted failing to stop and failing to report an accident. He said that he fled the scene because he felt "intimidated" by a group of spectators who recognised him and began taking photographs.

As well as the £2,020 fine, Thomas was given five penalty points and ordered to pay £50 costs. He opted to pay the fine on the spot.

Speaking outside court, the star's lawyer Nick Freeman commented: "He is relieved the matter is behind him. He regrets the matter and apologises for his involvement."
