Anyone watch this last night to see BNP leader Nick Griffin on the panel?
It was wonderful to see him get questioned over his vile views! and it's comforting to see so many people against what he stands for.
I only saw bits and pieces. I agree that is was good to see so many people being against what he stands for, sadly, he and his party got far too many votes in the recent European elections and I fear for the general election in UK next year. I can see a lot of people being disillusioned with Labour and the Conservatives and Leb Dem and giving the BNP their vote. :(
I'm going to watch it later. I can see both sides to the argument but I hope that the target audience of QT are more than capable of seeing through his thinly veiled lies and hate.
Some of the anti fascists (not all of them are members of UAF) behaved appallingly yesterday but sometimes its necessary to take drastic action to make people listen. The BNP couldn't have dreamt of better press coverage, there were cameras and press from all over the world.
I've actually seen an email this morning that came from the top of the BNP and it states that they had 2000 new memberships yesterday before the program even started. How accurate that figure is I don't know, but the fact that the BNP are gaining more support off the back of this is very worrying indeed and shows that the BBC were wrong to allow Griffin on QT.
Andrew Bronz: Not in MY name.
I watched QT as I always do. Nick Griffin was shown up for what he was. He shwed that the BNP have nothing to offer. It is right that he was allowed on QT not just because it exposed his bigotry and racism but he has as much right as anyone to put forward his point of view however twisted it may be. I found him offensive just I I do all extremists but will defend their right to speak. I find Abu Hamza offensive as I find Arthur Scargills so called socialist party but if they get the votes then they have the right to speak and be heard
I could have done a better job than Griffin of representing the BNP.
Jack Straw - WTF was he on when he answered that first question?
Bonnie Greer was the best. She really gave it to Griffin without rising up to any baiting.

Bonnie Greer I have always looked up and felt she was a woman with class and she showed she was last night. Mr Griffin was not worth her time and he shouldn't of had any airtime to share his views :(
There may of had people against him on the show but he wouldn't command so much attention if people weren't voting for him. It makes me think that he has a mass following probably from people who keep their views well and truly hidden.

Nick Griffin is a bigot and a racist and he can dress it up anyway he wants, but he got voted into the European Parliment so he is entitled to have his say. All those tree huggers who stood outside the BBC protesting are wasting their time. If they bothered to get their sorry butt's to the polling stations like countless of thousands who couldn't be bothered to vote, the BNP would never have got the votes to begin with. In seven months time the UK will hold a General Election and some will be happy with the vote some not, but there is no point in sitting in your armchair and wasting your vote. An Opinion poll held since last night by the bbc has found that at least 22% of voters are considering voting for the BNP. That is going to have serious implications on the Election next year with voters being angry at MP over their expenses. There is only one way to cleanse this country of bigotry like the BNP and that is use your vote wisely.
I disagree Kath, if you asked everyone who went to TV studios I doubt you will find many people who didn't vote in the last general election or the EU elections (excluding those who weren't old enough).
The BNP can be beaten if people get off their backsides and vote. It's hardly difficult to walk to a polling station and put a cross in a box that doesn't have BNP next to it. The problem is, the general public have become disillusioned with the state of politics in this country. Aside from the three main parties and the BNP, there is little publication of UKIP, the Greens, the Socialists etc so people don't know who to vote for. The smaller parties only come out at election time for their obligatory political party broadcast which is a shame because some of them have better policies than the main three put together.
It's all about educating people early enough about how to vote and who to vote for with respect to individual thoughts and opinions. Political pacifism does this country no good.

This feeling of voters feeling disillusioned is going to have a huge impact on the Election. I believe there should be a change in the immigration law, maybe adopt an approach like Australia where Immigrators are able to support themselves for a time-period. But there is hundreds of young people who are now or will be eligable to vote come May. They may live in cities were there are high levels of immigrations, no jobs and no prospects who are they going to blame the Polish, and the Blacks. So instead of using their vote wisely they will vote for BNP. They only need to have one seat in the houses of parliment and that is one seat too many. I respect that most of the audience at the bbc are voters, but there are thousands of others who jam the phone lines complaining who don't vote and to me they are just as responsible as those who went to the polling station and put an X beside the BNP and I think there is more to come.
The BNP policy is of ethnonationalism. If it happens, it'll be the Nazis back in charge.

And sadly I can see them winning seats in May.

Thankfully they never have been in charge therefore they cannot come back

Not in the UK they have not but in other countries
All that it takes 'is for good men to do nothing'.
Apathy in the majority is what gives extremist minority power, we should all vote.
I'm all for proportional representation which would give the BNP more say. But the fact is that they are a bunch of racist nazi thugs and as such belong in the asylum.

The thought of that makes me feel sick. I'll be using my vote wisely come May. I just hope others do too.

It is the only way to stop them getting any more power

They won't win any seats in May. Thankfully.

They have nothing like the support they would need to win a seat in a General Election. In between General Elections they take a few Council seats because turn-out is low and people look at as a way of registering a protest. But in a General Election, their 3% support in the country will give them nothing.
Let us hope you are right
I have just watched this on BBC iplayer. I thought, surprisingly for me, that the conservative woman on the panel did very well. I also agree that Bonnie Greer was very articulate and made her points with intellect and style.
Jack Straw seemed a little on the back foot, but to be honest Nick Griffith was out of his depth and totally outclassed by the rest of the panel. At times he looked like a nodding dog, and he seemed overawed by the whole occasion.
The libdem guy left little impression.
It would have been interesting to have a broader balance of questions, perhaps an expose of the BNPs lack of coherent policies in other areas rather than concentrating on the obvious, but I guess that time was limited.
I do think that it was right for NG to appear on the show, he is an elected member of the EP and represents a portion of society. It was interesting that the point was made repeatedly that not all BNP voters are racist. Unemployment, poverty, lack of education etc all drive people to extreme solutions - we need to learn the lessons of 1930s Germany.
I feel that it is important that the BNP are exposed for what they are, and they need to have a platform for that to happen. Excluding them makes them martyrs and more attractive to disenfranchised members of society.
I didn't recognise the show from the media representation.
I disagree that there is little chance of the BNP getting a seat in the UK parliament. The BNP have concentrated support in certain deprived areas, and that combined with voter apathy could let them win a seat.
They have almost no support in Scotland, for instance, so the 3% share of the vote is concentrated elsewhere.
