Robbie Williams will receive the 'Outstanding Contribution to Music' prize at next year's Brit Awards, it has been announced.

The singer, who has won more Brits than any other artist, will mark the honour with a performance at the event, which takes place at London's Earls Court on February 16.

Ged Doherty, Brits committee chairman, said: "Robbie is one of the outstanding artists and performers of his generation. It will be an absolute thrill to have him at the Brits 30th anniversary show receiving the 'Outstanding Contribution' award. We are delighted."

Previous recipients of the award include Sir Paul McCartney, David Bowie and last year's winners Pet Shop Boys.

Williams has sold more than 55 million albums since embarking on a solo career in 1995. He has collected 11 previous Brits as a solo artist, as well as four as a member of Take That.

He releases Reality Killed The Video Star, his eighth studio album, on November 9. His latest single 'Bodies' is currently at number two on the UK singles chart.

Nothing against Robbie but don't we think it's about time George Michael or Madness were given that award.

NEXT year's Brit Awards are looking better and better.
Last week I brought the joyous news that PETER KAY is hosting the bash.

Now I've discovered that organisers have signed up JAY-Z to do a medley of his hits at the show.

The 99 Problems rapper will duet with a mystery co-star, who I expect to be either ALICIA KEYS, pal CHRIS MARTIN or wife BEYONCE.

His presence immediately places next February's ceremony in the Premier League.

Earlier this month Jay-Z - or Shawn Carter as he's known to his mum - sprinkled his magic rap dust on the MTV Europe Music Awards.

And he gave a cracking performance of Empire State Of Mind with Alicia at Sunday's American Music Awards.

A Brits source said: "Jay-Z is confirmed as one of the key performers.

"In weak years there have been problems securing the big international artists.

"But knowing Jay-Z is there will help to secure other big acts now."

We already know ROBBIE WILLIAMS will close the show after collecting the Outstanding Contribution To Music gong.

And I'm confident KASABIAN are also near to signing up.

So the 30th Anniversary of The Brits - taking place on February 16 at London's Earls Court - is in good shape.

One interesting question is whether SIMON COWELL will change the habit of a lifetime and come along.

He has snubbed the ceremony in recent years because his X Factor acts have been overlooked.

But I can't see how JLS, ALEXANDRA BURKE and LEONA LEWIS can be ignored at the 2010 awards.

The world has moved on since X Factor was looked down upon by the music industry.

Let's just hope the Brits judges see that.

The Brit Awards has introduced a special one-off category to celebrate its 30th anniversary.

The ceremony will include a 'Most Memorable Brits Performance' award to mark the landmark birthday, replacing the 'Best Live Act' category for one year only.

The public will be able to vote for their favourite performance from acts including Kylie, The Bee Gees, Eurythmics, The Spice Girls, The Who, Coldplay, Paul McCartney, Take That, The Pet Shop Boys, Girls Aloud and Michael Jackson.

Mel B will present all the performances on special ITV1 show The BRITs Hits 30, broadcast on January 23.

The Brits nominations will be unveiled on January 18 and the awards take place at London's Earls Court on February 16.

Robbie Williams has agreed to perform live at the Brit Awards next month, according to a report.

Organisers are "praying" that the appearance goes according to plan following the criticism levelled at Williams last year for his two X Factor performances, The Mirror claims.

A source commented: "It's a real coup having Robbie - but the poor bloke does get very nervous these days. Let's hope he pulls it off."

Williams has also been tipped to take to the stage with his former band Take That at the Earls Court event on February 16.

The insider said: "It's the band's 20th anniversary year and they are in talks about doing something spectacular."

Meanwhile, Jay-Z has reportedly agreed to perform 'Empire State Of Mind' with Alicia Keys, and is also said to be in talks for a possible duet with Coldplay.

Additionally, Dizzee Rascal and Florence and the Machine are believed to have started work on a collaboration called 'You Got The Dirtee Love' for the forthcoming ceremony.

Popstar Lady Gaga is eager to perform with Scottish sensation Susan Boyle in this year’s BRIT awards.

The Poker Face hitmaker is a huge fan of the Boyle and wishes to team up with her at the prestigious ceremony in London next month.

“Lady Gaga is being lined up to headline this year’s BRITs. She is being lined up for three awards so is planning a killer performance,” Contactmusic quoted a source as telling the Daily Star.

“When she heard Susan was also in talks to perform, she made it her mission for them to perform together.

“She always likes to shock and knows a performance with Susan Boyle would be a huge international story.

“Not only that but she genuinely loves her. Like the rest of the world she thinks her story is amazing,” the source added.

Taio Cruz has admitted that he was surprised to receive his recent Brit Award nomination.

The star's chart-topping hit 'Break Your Heart' has been shortlisted for this year's 'Best British Single' prize.

Reflecting on the nod, Cruz told the Daily Record: "As a songwriter, I'm very pleased to be up for 'Best British Song'. I don't really expect anything. I actually didn't expect to be nominated for anything."

The singer predicted that Lily Allen's 'The Fear' or Tinchy Stryder's 'Number One' will win the award on February 16.

Speaking of his other rivals in the category, he added: "I'm friends with Cheryl [Cole] and JLS, but I tend not to get too over-excited about any of these things. It's nice if someone wants to give me an award and recognises me, but I don't get too into it."

Peter Andre has apparently revealed that he will be hosting at next month's Brit Awards.

The 'Behind Closed Doors' singer, who is currently gearing up for his 29-date UK tour, confirmed that he is to present the event's backstage coverage.

Andre told The Mirror: "I'm thrilled about [it]. So many people I know and love have been nominated, and I think it's going to be a great night."

The Brit Awards take place at London's Earls Court on February 16.

Yesterday, the 36-year-old denied rumours that he is planning to enter the Celebrity Big Brother house.

Leona Lewis was "outraged" that Brit Awards chiefs planned to serve foie-gras at next week's ceremony in London.

The former ‘X Factor' winner launched a tirade of abuse at organisers of the glittering annual event on her Twitter page after hearing of their plans.

"I was outraged 2 hear that the Brit Awards were planning 2 serve foie-gras at the ceremony. They hav now removed it from the menu, well done!", Leona wrote.

The singer, who will battle it out with Bat For Lashes, Florence & The Machine, Lily Allen and Pixie Lott for the ‘British Female Solo Artist' gong at Tuesday's bash, is a staunch vegetarian.

For those unaware of the animal rights controversy surrounding the French delicacy, Leona had this message: "In case u didn't no, Foie-gras is duck that is forced fed in a sickening cruel process and is banned in the uk."

BUBBLY Sam Fox is to make a shock return to the Brit Awards tomorrow night.

And she promised: “I’m not going to boob this time.”

The former Page 3 favourite famously fluffed her lines when she co-hosted the event with Mick Fleetwood, now 62, in 1989.

Their double act is deemed the most shambolic Brit Awards ever. The couple missed cues, microphones were left in the wrong place and star guests arrived late on stage.

Twenty-one years later bosses have invited I’m A Celebrity contestant Sam, 43, for a starring role at tomorrow’s 30th anniversary show. She will present an award to the act with the best performance from the past 30 years and is doing voiceovers for the nominations.

Sam said: “This time I won’t be caught short. I have got my lines ready.”

Recalling the 1989 farce, Sam added: “The whole night went tits up.

“We were like Little and Large next to each other.

“In the end it was a bloody fiasco.

“We tried to do our best but it was a shambles and the night just went from bad to worse.”

Comedian Peter Kay, 36, is hosting the live show on ITV1 at 8pm. Lady GaGa, 23, Cheryl Cole, 26, and Lily Allen, 24, will all appear.

i loved dizee and flo's mashup, it was bloody amazing!

dispaointed in cheryl for lip synching - badly! She was dressed amazing, danced amazing, and the whole performance and mash up was really good, so if she sang normal and she voice wasn't perfect it would still have been an amazing performance. but that miming was dreadful!

wasn't very impressed by gaga's performance either last night and what was she wearing!? but glad she won all of her awards though after she was robbed at the Grammys!
