THE Big Ben clock will be axed from the News at Ten titles to widen the programme's appeal outside London.
The opening sequence - a zooming shot of the capital's landmarks ending at the bell tower - will also be replaced.
Bosses are keeping the new look secret, but said it will have a modern yellow theme that fits with ITV1's current image.
They vowed to keep the "bongs" coming from the famous bell that gives the tower its name - and incorporate them into a new theme.
A spokesman said: "We didn't want the news to be too London-centric.
"We felt we needed to retain the heritage people recognise so in the studio there will be a clock."
The revamped News at Ten - fronted by Mark Austin and Julie Etchingham - will begin on November 2.
