Renee Zellweger has reportedly played down speculation that she will return for a third instalment of her Bridget Jones franchise.

It had been suggested that Working Title was in the "very early stages" of Bridget Jones 3, reportedly based on a series of newspaper columns by author Helen Fielding.

However, speaking to E! Online's Marc Malkin, she said: "I get asked every single day and I don't know anything. It's a rumour."

When asked whether she would consider appearing in an alleged stage musical based on the popular character, she replied: "I haven't been asked, [but] I think that would be weird. Do you think that would be weird?"

Bridget Jones's Diary, based on the bestselling book, was released in 2001 and took over $280 million worldwide. It later spawned a sequel, Bridget Jones: The Edge Of Reason, which grossed around $260 million.

I don't know if I want another part of this. I loved the Hugh Grant character and wondered how would he fit into the storyline if there was another part of this film....

I liked the first film a lot the follow up wasn't bad but then I wonder how much more can they explore with Bridget? Giving her children? Going through pregnancy?

Love Hugh Grant full stop :heart: but in Bridget jones he is brilliant... I always hate the end of BJ 1... no way would she have gotten the nice guy in real life, everyone ends up with the total ******* :rotfl::rotfl:

So true!

I thought that Bridget would end up alone still hoping to find her Mr Right as I felt that Colin's character was a little too weak and soft.

it is quiet funny cause he hardly gets a mention in the book (at the start and end) where in the movie he is always there at the most embarrassing times for Bridget..

I know! But I suppose the people that made the movie wanted a happy ending for Bridget eventhough I think she had better chemistry with Hugh

He cheated on her... the bounder :rotfl::rotfl: but in real life, she would have stayed with him, tried to change him and end up more miserable...

The third instalment in the Bridget Jones series, Bridget Jones's Baby, has run into script problems resulting in a delay to the start of production, according to reports.

Hugh Grant, due to reprise his role as lothario Daniel Cleaver, has apparently criticised Helen Fielding and David Nicholls' script, resulting in producers placing the project on hiatus.

One source even goes so far as to claim the project is "basically dead". However, a statement released this morning by Working Title says it is "still working on the script hence the delay to the start of production, but the film is going ahead as planned".

The film's original director Paul Feig (Bridesmaids) left the project last year owing to creative differences, with Full Monty director Peter Cattaneo taking over. The third instalment in the series concerns a fortysomething Bridget planning to have a baby.

Whether the delay will result in scheduling issues for the in-demand Colin Firth is unclear, but he is expected to star alongside Renée Zellweger and Grant.

The title of the third Bridget Jones book has been revealed.

Today reports that Helen Fielding's follow-up to Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason will be released later this year, and will be titled Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy.

The third film, in which Renée Zellweger would reprise the title role, was reportedly stalled after Hugh Grant expressed dissatisfaction with the script, and Colin Firth has suggested there could be "a long wait" for another film.

"There is a joy of doing those movies that keeps hope alive," Firth said. "And the story is going in an interesting direction. I just wouldn't say that the movie is imminent."

Working Title head Eric Fellner has said that a third film will not necessarily be made, explaining: "We'll only do it if we can crack it creatively, so maybe we will, maybe we won't."

Patrick Dempsey, who departed ABC’s Grey’s Anatomy to “try something different,” posted a photo of himself in the U.K. on Wednesday, where he’s gearing up to star in the big-screen sequel Bridget Jones’s Baby.

Having recently boarded the third film in the franchise starring Renee Zellweger and based on the Helen Fielding books, Dempsey wrote in a caption that it’s “Nice to be working in England. Renee and Colin are an absolute joy to work with.”
