'EastEnders' villain Archie Mitchell is to be murdered at Christmas.
The controlling soap gangster - played by Larry Lamb - will be killed in his estranged wife Peggy Mitchell's beloved Queen Vic pub.
The murder will spark a manhunt across Albert Square with a string of regulars in the frame.
In dramatic scenes, viewers will see evil Archie's lifeless corpse stretchered out of the legendary pub in a bodybag.
A show insider said: "Since Archie first arrived in Walford he's managed to lie, cheat and manipulate everyone around him.
"Over the next few months he is set to get even worse - so it's fair to say he's made enemies of enough people who'll be glad to see the back of him."
The explosive scenes of Archie's death, to be shown on Christmas Day, will come after a storyline which sees the gangster trying to take revenge on Peggy (Barbara Windsor) for dumping him.
Archie is presently trying to win the pub off her family, and is set to get engaged to Peggy's arch enemy Janine Butcher.
Over the next few months he is set to get even worse - so it's fair to say he's made enemies of enough people who'll be glad to see the back of him
Peggy's son, Walford bad boy Phil Mitchell, will emerge as chief murder suspect, as furious Archie broke his mum's heart.
