CRAZY Sally Spode burns down vicar Ashley Thomas’s cottage with his wife Laurel trapped inside.

Sally (Sian Reeves, 44) is trying to take over Laurel’s life so she can once again sink her claws into Ashley.

She dated the happily-wed vicar (John Middleton, 56) when they were young and wants to rekindle their romance.

But his loving wife Laurel (Charlotte Bellamy, 35) is in the way. And bunnyboiler Sally’s antics take a sinister turn when she sets the cottage alight knowing full well Laurel is inside.

A source said: “What most viewers won’t know is that Charlotte [above] was heavily pregnant when we filmed the scenes.

“She was crawling across the floor with six foot flames burning around her and all the while she was trying to hide her baby bump.

“Charlotte didn’t let anything get in her way and the scenes are amazing.”

Wonder if Laurels hospitalisation will be used as the story to cover her maternity leave. At least it would be more realistic than her and Ash splitting up again

Sally Spode and her husband are terrible characters

I'd like to see Bernice back creating a love triangle with Laurel and Ashley

Poor Laurel - Is there any possiblity of Bernice returning?

Perdita

There is nothing for her to return to. She does not feel maternal towards her daughter and Diane can keep on visiting her in Brighton.

Oh ok is Gabby her only child she has?

Perdita

I think so. Diane has never mentioned her having another child since she left Emmerdale.

Bernice has a daughter, father, mother and sister and new baby niece still living in Emmerdale she could come visit them. She did leave on good terms with Ashley if i remember correctly.

Laurel Thomas will be left screaming for her life when she is engulfed in flames

The mild-mannered mum’s coat catches fire at a local bonfire night.

Her husband Ashley (John Middleton, 56) races to try to rescue her, but he is knocked back by the heat of the inferno.

It is left to Laurel’s love rival Sally Spode (Sian Reeves, 44) to play the heroine.

A show insider said: “Sally is really torn.

“Does she help or does she watch Laurel burn to death, paving the way for her to fi nally get her hands on Ashley? Eventually she springs into action, but the fire puts a sick plan in her head.”

As we exclusively revealed earlier this month, Sally plots an arson attack to get rid of Laurel (Charlotte Bellamy, 35).

From Digital Spy

Emmerdale's resident fruit loop Sally Spode ups the ante in the hope of achieving her end game next week as she causes a fire at the church, before trapping her love rival Laurel (Charlotte Bellamy) inside. Sally - played by Siân Reeves - continues in her efforts to eradicate Laurel from her husband Ashley's (John Middleton) life and rekindle her teen romance with the village vicar but as her plan begins to fall apart at the seams, she manages to turn her situation on its head and become the local hero. Just what lengths will Sally go to in order to snare her man from Laurel's life? We gave Siân a bell to find out more.

What's Sally trying to do? What are her motives?
"Well Sally's mad… I had a bit of a moment where people thought she was quite nice but was threatening Ashley and Laurel's stability, but they might not know that she's actually bonkers. This week will give viewers a really good idea about what lengths she'll go to in a bid to replace Laurel. Sally just wants her life. Sally doesn't understand consequences because she lives in her own little world. I don't think she means to do what she does in starting the fire - she just gets so furious with Laurel being 'in the way' that she traps her in the church and causes the blaze. I think she thought that the grass was greener with Vincent, so she dumped Ashley all those years ago. Now she's trying to claw back what she could have had."

Will she stop at anything to get what she wants?
"She's completely irrational about everything. People should be really scared of her after the fire - scared of what she's capable of. She knows no bounds. There's no limit - she's not living in the real world. I've tried to make her seem really sane and nice, though."

Do you think she has a mental problem?
"Definitely. In a previous scene, Vincent said to Sally something like, 'We've been here before, we can deal with it'. I think that's why they've not had children and why they've had to travel around. They'd been travelling abroad and the moment that Sally started to become unsettled, Vincent would move on to another country and he's become the parishioner there. Ashley's a massive fixation with her past life and she equates that to happiness. She's very depressed and lonely, but she puts on this brilliant act. You wouldn't want to meet her – you wouldn't want her in your life."

How does the fire come about?
"Sally goes to the church where Laurel is and ends up goading her into saying something really nasty about [Sally's] life. The conversation causes Sally to become wrongly upset. It's always all about Sally and her emotional state. She's great at crying and making people feel sorry for her. Sally goes to the church door at the end of the conversation with tears in her eyes and she slams the door as though she's left the building – but she's still there… It can be interpreted as evil and I do have some hard, evil stares but it's more of a madness. Nobody would do what Sally does in real life."

Then what happens?
"After Sally's started the fire, she's sitting outside on the swing watching. When it really does catch fire, I've tried to make it look like Sally's bewildered by the scale of what she's done. I don't think Sally realised that it would happen and escalate into what it becomes."

What was it like filming for the stunt?
"I can't wait to see it. Lee Salisbury directed it and it's going to be fantastic. We had a great time filming it. We did night shoots, though, so it was difficult but it'll be fabulous on screen. There's no shortage of cherry pickers, lights etc - you name it! It was done so well."

Would you say Sally's quite clever, then?
"Yeah, almost bonkers clever. She's someone who looks at things in an extraordinary way. She only sees the end result - she doesn't think about what could happen in between to foil her plan."

What happens in the aftermath of the fire?
"Sally realises that she has to unlock the door to make it look like Laurel could have escaped. Zak then wanders down to see what's going on and Sally pretends that she was passing by and became worried after seeing the smoke and hearing the bells - Laurel manages to get to the bell rope to alert everyone that she's inside. Sally then runs up to Ashley screaming to help because the church is on fire. Then it looks like Sally's the hero because if it wasn't for her, they wouldn't have called for the emergency services and Laurel wouldn't have been rushed to hospital."

What do you think of the direction of the show at the minute?
"I think that Gavin Blyth's amazing. He's bought in an amazing actress… (laughs). He's been very clever as he wooed me over a fair amount of time to see if I'd be interested and he's got me and given me this brilliant storyline. I love the new family, the Bartons, too. They're fabulous. They're a great solid look. Then they've just bought in Chris [Bisson] and Rik [Makarem]… He's really doing some fabulous things."

Siân Reeves on Sally's future, potential exit and more!

I recently caught up with the lovely Siân Reeves, who plays Emmerdale's deranged psycho Sally Spode, for a chat about the dramatic fire that's about to unfold on our screens. For those who haven't already read, Sally's intent on becoming Laurel (Charlotte Bellamy) in the hope that she'll be able to rekindle her childhood romance with Ashley (John Middleton).

So, in true avenged lover-style, she locks Laurel in the church and causes a fire. She doesn't, however, think of the repercussions of her actions or potential interference from a third party. This, ladies and gentleman, is where her plan falls to pieces.

Click here to read what Siân has to say about the plot, or read on for some exclusive bonus quotes about Sally's future in Emmerdale, her screen husband Vincent and her dream exit from the Dales.

Where does Sally go from here?
"My biggest task now is to try and make people feel a little sorry for her, but everyone's hating her! Sally's furious by the outcome of the fire, but she lives short-term. Sally's running the house, looking after the children and Ashley thinks that Sally's wonderful for helping. Sally tries to show Ashley that Laurel's not needed and is unnecessary! It's awful, really! It's not all over for her, though. There's a chilling scene coming up beyond Laurel's return from hospital. It's still Sally's aim to get rid of her. She'll keep at it…"

Will we be seeing Vincent again?
"I don't know. He could come and cart me off, couldn't he?! There's going to be something, though, surely."

Can you give us any teasers as to how it all ends?
"I can't! I'm hoping that she'll drown herself! It has to be something as fabulous as that. Unrequited love and utter madness."

Could she set up her own death to look like a murder?
"I don't know if she'd want to blame someone for murdering her. She'll try to do something that'll make Ashley love or remember her forever. Something that Ashley will never be able to erase from his memory. Maybe hang herself in the church or something - now that'd be an indelible print!"

And Charlotte Bellamy's just had her little baby!
"Yes! I haven't had a chance to see her yet… but I've been in constant contact, though, because I'm very good friends with Charlotte. Of all the people to try and kill in Emmerdale! I love her daughter's name, too - Teddie Boo Florence. When she's older, she can just be Ted."

I just wish they would end this crap. Surely they could have thought of a better excuse for Laurels absence than yet another relationship storyline. If he was a real vicar he would have been excommunicated years ago:thumbsdow

They will not end this storyline any more than the affair storyline in another soap on ITV :(

They will not end this storyline any more than the affair storyline in another soap on ITV :(At least the Kevin and Molly storyline has a ring of truth about it. The Ashley/Laurel/Sally/Vincent/George/Edna storyline is a contrived pile of pooh

I can appreciate elements of the Ashley/Laurel/Sally story, a former girlfriend, meeting her ex again and thinking the grass is a lot greener on the other side. But I can't see a bishop getting as involved in a marital relationship of one of his vicars the way Bishop George has been shown to though.
