2661: Newt makes a new friend
Airs on Monday, October 5 2009 at 18:30 BST on Channel 4
Elliot, Nancy and Kris watch old home footage of Sarah and mourn the death of their best friend. The police, meanwhile, interview Elliot and they confirm that the Horny Goat Weed was herbal - he'll walk away with only a caution for his drunk and disorderly behaviour. Kris suggests that they all go for a drink in memory of their friend at the SU bar, where they're later joined by a grieving Steph.
They all fondly reflect on Sarah's life and laugh about her funny ways but it's all too much for Elliot, who walks out. Kris later apologises for his humour, explaining that it's his way of getting through the heartache. The trio bond, knowing that they must help each other to cope with their loss.
Meanwhile, Frankie searches through photos of Newt for the missing persons' website, while Jake's psychiatrist informs Steph that Jake wants her to visit. When Steph refuses to go, a guilty Frankie turns up to see her son and apologises for Steph's absence and tries to reassure him that she does care. Jake's paranoid that he will never be completely forgiven and fears how he'll be treated when he's released.
When Frankie reports back to Steph that Jake was devastated about her not going to see him, a confused Steph is comforted by Jack who tells her he understands her not being able to forgive and forget because of his situation with Darren. Just like Frankie, Jack's determined to have his family back and it's clear that everyone is terrified at the prospect of Newt not returning home.
Jake worries about not being ready to leave but Dr Sanders tells him that it's his family who aren't ready, not him. Jake's unsure about returning home but Dr Sanders informs him that he's arranging his immediate release - he'll be home within the week!
Elsewhere, a tired and confused Newt is on the run with Eli. When a police officer passes by, Newt's paranoia intensified - he's convinced that he'll be sent to prison for life for killing Gaz, completely unaware that Gaz is still alive. After Newt snubs Eli's suggestion to forage for food in a bin, Newt's persuaded to mug an elderly lady for money. Spurred on by Eli, Newt makes for his target, Lily, and throws her to the floor, before making off with her bag.
Newt soon feels remorse and worries about how much he's hurt her. Eli tells him that he must hide and leads him to a derelict warehouse. While examining the contents of Lily's purse, they're disturbed by a girl standing high up on a ledge in the warehouse. Newt approaches and tries to help her down, but she warns him to stay away and that she intends to jump.
Newt eventually manages to coax her down and she follows him away from the ledge. Despite Eli's caution that she's bad news, Newt seems happy with his new friend called Rae.
2662: Nancy visits Jake
Airs on Tuesday, October 6 2009 at 18:30 BST on Channel 4
Everyone's reeling from the news that Zoe's been charged for Sarah's murder. Kris, Nancy, Hannah and Loretta try to get their heads round the situation and are all convinced that Zoe's innocent. Kris is angered when the police turn up to search Zoe's belongings and decides to go and see his friend.
However, Archie greets his parents as they arrive to visit their daughter in prison. Archie's resolute in his belief that Zoe is not guilty, but is shocked when his parents don't seem quite so forthcoming with their support.
At the prison, Zoe explains the recent course of events to her family, while maintaining a tough façade. Graham's encouraged by her optimism and suggestion that the evidence against her is unconvincing, but Archie can see through her pretence and challenges her. Later, Archie goes to visit a broken Mike, who makes his ill feelings towards Zoe perfectly clear.
As Newt attempts to bond with Rae, the issue of her attempted suicide crops up but she's dismissive. Eli, meanwhile, is unimpressed by Rae and advises Newt that they should move on to avoid being caught. When Rae overhears Newt talking to Eli, she questions him about it and Newt jokingly replies someone's talking in his head.
Rae accompanies him on his trip back home to get his medication on their way, they cross paths with Jack and Frankie. Newt starts running again and is forced to reveal all to Rae about his life at home and the incident with Gaz.
Back at the warehouse, Eli's insistent that they leave and details his getaway plan. Newt's adamant that he wants to stay put but Eli warns him that Rae will eventually discover his existence. Having to face reality, Newt informs Rae of his departure and is shocked at her distressed reaction. Newt comes to the realisation that he doesn't want to lose his new companion and with that, they share a kiss. A brooding Eli, meanwhile, watches on.
Elsewhere, Nancy's furious to hear about Jake's imminent release, while Jack warns Frankie that he might be taken into custody as soon as he's discharged. Jack and Frankie are delighted to receive news that Newt's been seen and with that, they venture out to investigate it. When they finally spot him, Newt runs away but Frankie's happy to know that he's alive.
An irate Nancy goes to visit Jake to warn him to stay away from Charlie. Despite Jake's protestations that he is a changed man, however, Nancy coldly tells him that he's not welcome in the village. She's shocked, though, to hear his revelation that he doesn't want to return home as he's afraid of what awaits him on the outside.
Hannah reveals to an awkward Loretta that she wrote to Jake in prison posing as Nancy and is now scared at the possibility of Nancy finding out. Nancy returns from her visit to Jake and walks straight into an argument with Kris about the state of their relationship. Kris takes it too far with a remark about Jake's attempted rape and she slaps him.
While Kris is left feeling regretful, it's clear that the reappearance of Jake in Nancy's life is already causing her problems.
2663: Jake struggles to reconnect with his family
Airs on Wednesday, October 7 2009 at 18:30 BST on Channel 4
Lydia's still hospitalised after trying to take her own life following Sarah's death. When Charlotte arrives to see her, she's shocked to see what a mess Lydia is in, clearly worried about her friend. Lydia reveals the plans her and Sarah had, surprising Charlotte by telling her that they planned to go travelling and adopt. Charlotte's clearly unnerved by Lydia's state but assumes it's grief, not guilt.
When Archie arrives, Charlotte immediately tells him to leave but he refuses and as Lydia wakes from her sleep, she agrees to talk to him. Desperate for information that might help Zoe, Archie's left angry when Lydia refuses to accept that Zoe could be innocent - she tells Archie that she'll never forgive her for taking Sarah's life.
Eli continues to taunt Newt, making it increasingly difficult for him to be close to Rae. When Rae discovers that her money's missing, Newt tries to explain that he didn't take it but Rae refuses to listen and tells him to leave. He desperately tries to convince her that Eli is the one who stole it and explains as best he can about his schizophrenia. Rae can't understand that Newt and Eli are actually the same person but she soon agrees Newt can stay.
Later that night, Newt and Rae are having a laugh together when Rae asks questions about Eli. Their talk soon turns into a joke and the pair mock Eli and insinuate that he's gay. Eli isn't happy but before things can continue, Newt hears Lauren calling him. He runs out to her before she sees Rae but with Eli constantly filling his head with thoughts, Newt turns nasty.
Newt tells Lauren that she's a selfish, manipulative void and that Theresa is better looking. With that, Lauren slaps him across the face. Lauren is hurt that her best friend could be so cruel and after throwing his medication at him, she runs off. Things only get worse for Newt when Rae appears and has heard about Lauren, Anita and Theresa. Upset, Rae also walks off leaving a devastated Newt at breaking point with Eli as his only friend.
Frankie's struggling to deal with Jake's imminent return to the village, focusing on finding Newt instead. She's worried for his safety after he ran away the previous day and is almost certain Eli has returned. Jack's becoming more and more frustrated with Frankie's obvious avoidance of Jake, especially when she decides to leave with Steph before he arrives. Jack's left to deal with the return of an apprehensive and edgy Jake alone and the atmosphere becomes even more awkward as the day progresses. Jake feels like nobody wants him back, including his own mother and sister.
To make matters worse, while in Drive 'N' Buy, Kris arrives and lays into Jake, telling him he's not fit to walk the streets and he'll get what's coming to him. Jack tries his best to defuse the situation but a shaken Jake senses he agrees with what Kris is saying.
Bumping into Jake in the park, Frankie tries to hide her anxiety over seeing him but Jake sees straight through her. He desperately needs his mum to be there for him and it breaks his heart when she can't look him in the eye. An encounter with Nancy in the village is the final straw and Jake's convinced that he'll never be welcome in Hollyoaks.

Rae tells Newt that he can't acquire any more medication without handing himself in to the police, so either way they're stuffed. Living for the moment, they decide to make the most of the time they have together and cement their relationship. Lying in each others arms, Rae and Newt plan for their future just as Eli makes an appearance and jeopardises everything. Standing in Eli's path, Rae saves Newt from his alter ego but we're under no illusion that this isn't the last we've seen of Eli!
Newt's desperate to banish Eli but this fuels Eli's fury and after a tussle, it's apparent that he's taken over Newt. Rae's oblivious to the fact that Eli's controlling Newt and happily goes along with his plans. As Eli's personality becomes increasingly eccentric, it dawns on Rae that he's taken over Newt and she flees for her life.

Meanwhile, Frankie and Jack's search for Newt continues. While chatting to Jake in Drive 'N' Buy, Frankie panics when she sees Nancy and Loretta heading in and hides him while she gets rid of girls. Nancy realises that something's not right by Frankie's reaction and when Jake steps out, she's terrified. However, it gets worse when Jake confesses that he thought things were okay between them after receiving letters in the psychiatric hospital from Hannah.
Back at the flat, a sombre Jake's surprised to find Loretta on his doorstep and listens with disbelief when she admits that she's been writing to him, not Hannah. When Darren returns home, he's panicked as he's convinced that Jake's back for revenge. Frankie's arrival brings with it a full-scale argument as they debate whether Jake should stay with him.
With the clock ticking in the search for Newt, Frankie leaves and Darren's left alone with Jake. As Darren winds Jake up, his temper slowly builds until he snaps and Darren finds himself on the end of Jake's wrath…
After admitting that she threw Newt's medication away, Lauren's adamant that she has to do something. Seeking out Jack, Lauren confesses that she's seen Newt and expresses her fears that Eli's returned. As her frustrations come pouring out, Jack realises the immense pressure she's been under. They make plans to head off to the warehouse in search of Newt.
Elsewhere, Nancy's living on edge and lambastes Loretta for leaving the front door wide open. After her encounter with Jake in Drive 'N' Buy, Nancy falls to pieces in front of Loretta, who's wracked with guilt now that Nancy knows about Jake receiving correspondence from Hannah. Vowing to get to the bottom of it, Nancy prepares to ask Hannah exactly what's she's been up to, while Loretta feels that the net is closing in.
