They certainly are different but they might not be around for much longer the way they were:

Empire of the Sun vocalist Luke Steele has revealed that he will perform solo at the group's upcoming live Australian shows after bandmate Nick Littlemore's unexplained disappearance.

Steele admitted that it had been five months since Littlemore walked out on the group and he had been left 'holding the baby'.

"He disappeared about five months ago and I haven't really heard from him," Steele told Australian Associated Press. "Last I heard he's in Canada and then he's in Vegas.

"[But] as my Dad always says, 'you've got to keep the show on the road'."

The 29-year-old added he was unsure if Littlemore was still a part of the band, saying: "I really don't know, hey. He's just left me with the baby."

In the wake of Littlemore's disappearance, Adelaide group The Swiss will act as backing band for Empire of the Sun's live performances as part of Australia's Parklife music festivals.

Empire of the Sun's Nick Littlemore has revealed that he spent his unexplained absence from the band travelling and writing songs with his side-project.

Earlier this month, frontman Luke Steele confessed that he had not seen or heard from his bandmate for over five months. Littlemore has now broken his silence to say that he spent the hiatus working on new material with his band Pnau.

"We're making a studio album with Elton John co-writing on some tracks for the next Pnau album," he told NME. "We met Elton in Australia and his manager has now become our manager."

Explaining why he had not contacted Steele, he said: "I've been working with Cirque du Soleil in Montreal and writing and recording the next Pnau album in London, Atlanta and New York with [Pnau bandmate] Peter Mayes.

"I was recording in Atlanta and swimming with my phone in my pocket. I've never managed to replace it."

 Has he not heard of public phones or borrowing somebody else's phone to get in touch?
