For those of us missing Niall:-

Former Hollyoaks actor Barry Sloane is to make a guest appearance in Casualty, Digital Spy can exclusively reveal.

The 28-year-old - who appeared as Myra McQueen's unhinged secret son Niall Rafferty in the Channel 4 teen soap - takes on the role of Davey Blake, an old friend of one of the medical show's new trainee doctors Lenny Lyons (Steven Miller).

Speaking exclusively to DS, Sloane said: "Davey's an old friend of Lenny's - they were best friends who lived in a children's home together when they were younger. They hated the place and made a vow to burn it down.

"It's been 14 years to the day since they made the pact and Davey turns up looking for his mate. Davey's got the mental age of a 15-year-old and has nervous twitches, so it's a really exciting and challenging part to be playing."

He joked: "I've got a beard again in this, which seems to be an ongoing thing! Every since the late nights, I've had roles with some sort of facial hair. People must have liked it!"

A Casualty source added: "It's going to be a huge episode and there's some kind of stunt involved."

Sloane begins filming at Casualty's home in Bristol at the beginning of next week for transmission in early January.

Earlier this year, the BBC confirmed that Casualty is to relocate its production base to Cardiff.

Ex-Hollyoaks actor Barry Sloane is to become a father for the first time, Digital Spy can exclusively reveal.

The 28-year-old, who played Niall Rafferty in the Channel 4 soap, and his fashion designer girlfriend Katy O'Grady, 25, are expecting their new arrival in March.

Speaking exclusively to DS, Sloane said of the news: "I'm absolutely made up, I can't wait.

"I'd just gone down to London to start rehearsals and I got the call with the news. We're over the moon - I'm really looking forward to become a dad."

He continued: "We don't know if it's a boy or a girl yet. We had the 12-week scan, but we couldn't see what sex it was. We just knew that it had two arms, two legs and a heartbeat, which is all you want at that stage."

The pair are due to attend their 4D scan in a few weeks' time.

He jokingly added: "We've got loads of names for girls and nothing for a boy, so it'd be easier if it was a girl! But seriously, We'll just be happy with whatever we're given."

Yesterday, DS revealed that Sloane is to make a guest appearance in BBC One's flagship medical drama Casualty.
