As a saddened Paul says goodbye to Eileen before heading for his new job in North Yorkshire, she tries to cover her heartbreak. However, as she drowns her sorrows with Deirdre, Eileen has an epiphany, realising that Paul was the one for her and she shouldn't be letting him go so easily.

Racing to the station, Eileen calls Paul's phone. Will she reach him in time?

Meanwhile, Stella and Karl arrive home, but the holiday is soon over for Stella when she opens a worrying letter from her insurance company. Heading to the pub to check out the rebuild, Stella leans on Karl for support. However, faced with the scene of his crime, will Karl crumble?

Elsewhere, Carla manages to convince Peter to at least try working with Rob at the bookies. As Rob installs new betting machines and technology, claiming that he's going to drag the place out of the dark ages, Peter is riled but holds his tongue. What's his game?

Also, Anna is quietly concerned when Izzy insists that only Gary needs to go to the latest antenatal class with Tina. Anna encourages her to get involved.

As the train pulls away, taking her man with it, Eileen is gutted. Returning home, she decides it's time to move on.

However, when Paul returns to the street having witnessed her station dash, Eileen's heart soars. Paul loves her, but needs to know she can cope with him being a fireman. Can they find a way forward?

Meanwhile, Karl is unnerved as he and Stella look round the pub. After a run-in with Jason, he's further on edge. Desperate to seal his victory in the battle for Stella, Karl stuns her with a shock proposal. Sensing his desperation, will Stella agree?

Elsewhere, at the Barlows', Rob lords it over Peter. Deirdre is taken in, but Ken can see through Rob and tells Peter that he doesn't want him near the family. Peter tells Ken not to worry - he has a plan.

Also, as Gary and Tina talk Izzy through what happened at the antenatal class, Anna can see the bond they're striking up. She is relieved when Izzy suggests maybe she should go with them next time.

    Wednesday

Karl puts pressure on Stella to marry him as soon as possible. Stella is unnerved by his manner and refuses to commit. In front of Karl, Leanne warns Stella that marrying him would be a terrible mistake.

Later, a furious Karl threatens Leanne in the street, telling her to stop poisoning Stella against him or she'll regret it.

At the same time, Owen leans on Stella for his next pay cheque.

Meanwhile, Eileen and Paul start planning their wedding now that they're reunited. But when Paul tells Eileen that he's got his old job back, will Eileen remain content?

Elsewhere, as Rob gloats over the fact that takings are up considerably at the bookies, Peter refuses to rise to the bait. However, when Peter draws up a rota and tells Rob that he's working the evening shift, scuppering his date with Tracy, Rob is narked.

Also today, David and Kylie return from their scan and announce that they're expecting a baby girl. Gail is thrilled, while Nick looks awkwardly at Kylie.

    Friday

Stella is preoccupied, and Karl worries that she is having second thoughts about him.

After her run-in with Karl, Leanne vows to tell Stella what kind of man she's intending to marry. But when Leanne finds her upset, Stella reveals some shocking news of her own.

Meanwhile, Peter enjoys telling Rob that he's put him down for the evening shift again. Rob pretends he's cool with it, but Tracy is annoyed. As the two men argue over the merits of Rob's new computer system versus Peter's traditional method of paper and pens, Ken tells Peter how he dislikes Rob and thinks he's a bad influence on Tracy. Peter agrees.

Elsewhere, painting on a smile, Eileen fusses over Paul as he prepares for his first day back at work. But when Paul is late home, will Eileen be able to mask her fears?

Also, when Julie hears that her mum has broken her hip, she tells Carla that she needs some time off to go and look after her.

Finally, Kylie is touched when David suggests that he should take over her evening shifts at the Bistro so she can rest, while Eva heads off on holiday.

Stella is beside herself as she explains to Leanne how she is financially ruined. After a run-in with Owen over his bounced payment, she also confides in Karl and Gloria about her predicament.

Gloria suggests they ask Leanne to invest the money she got from the bookies in the pub instead. Hearing Stella out, Leanne agrees - but she has one shock condition for Stella…

Meanwhile, when Steve places some complicated bets, Rob struggles with the maths and Peter enjoys belittling him, leaving Rob fuming. When Carla then sees Peter handing Steve some cash, she demands to know what's going on.

Elsewhere, Paul arrives home to Eileen's relief and announces that he's booked their wedding for two weeks' time and arranged for them to visit Todd beforehand. How will Eileen react?

Finally, David returns home exhausted after a day at the salon and an evening working at the Bistro. Kylie feels guilty under Gail's disapproving gaze.

Coronation Street star Jane Danson has suggested her character Leanne Battersby could be Karl's next victim.

Leanne is unnerved next week when she learns Karl (John Michie) has proposed to Stella (Michelle Collins) and she tries to persuade her mum to reconsider.

Speaking to the Radio Times, Danson said: "She's not happy. She tells them she won't be there that day and that whatever date they choose, she'll be busy. She's basically washing her hands of the whole situation.

"Maybe Leanne could be the next victim of Karl, although I'm hoping not! Who knows? I can't second guess what he might do, but Karl's character is certainly an interesting one."

Karl is furious when he discovers Leanne has been meddling in his relationship with Stella and threatens her in the middle of the street.

Danson continued: "She does bravado really well and she would never show him to his face that she's scared, but deep down she knows that Karl does potentially have very dark ways.

"She's not great at giving second chances, even though she herself is quite flawed.

"I think essentially Leanne sees him as a bit of a challenge. He's quite a big bloke and quite strong so he could physically scare her. There's a scene where he grabs her by the wrist and she tells him she isn't scared of him. But when he walks off, we see that she's visibly shaken."
